Received Denamarin today, less than 24hrs after ordering. I was kinda sick about giving Lucy, my 102lb PitBull, yet another pill. Her weight requires 3 1/2 chewables a day. The chewables are nickel sized, no problem for her, she actually has another Nutramax supplement that is larger. Lucy has 4 other pills she must take 4hrs apart every day. I am able to combine these with the Denamarin! I am able to keep her regular dosing schedule. It all seemed great, but will she take them. I gave her box & bottle so she could check it out. Then came the pill. She played with it for awhile, then bit it a few times. It passed her taste test. She wanted more & I gave her the other 2, skipped the 1/2 this time. She acted like they were treats! Lucy has high liver enzymes in the 200's due to her other meds. Nutramax is a God send for us. In 6 months I will report new lab results. Denamarin had no unpleasant odor & 'CHEWABLES' can be cut or crushed. So far, this is a winner!
I bought this product for my Jack Russell Terrier mix, Buddy. He weighs about 17 pounds. I bought the chewables because I was given large caplets for Buddy. I didn't want to force the caplets down Buddy's throat, so the chewables seemed to be good solution. The picture of a chewable tablet wasn't next to anything, it was hard to tell how large they were. These things are huge and hard. I broke it in half and gave it to Buddy. He couldn't chew it. Even after soaking it in water, he still couldn't chew it. I sent a message to customer service about the issue. They said they will send me a refund. They suggested I donate the unused pills to someone that can use them. Although the product didn't meet Buddy's needs, customer service was great! I've read too many reviews that say they can't get a refund. That's incorrect!
My papillon has been on denamarin with another liver prescription for 3 years since he went into early liver failure. This supplement in addition to his other medication have maintained his liver levels for 3 years now and I'm so thankful for it! My dog is picky and doesn't love the flavor, so I give with a pill pocket. He takes these chewable tablets better than the hard tablets.
This pill is huge and has a smell that is obviously unpleasant to dogs. We have to mash up the pill into a paste with a little water and peanut butter to get our dog to eat. Not sure why company can't make a smaller pill that has a more appealing smell. Jury is still out as to whether it actually works.
My Maltese is never picky with her food, but this supplement she would not chew/eat. I had to cut the supplement in small pieces and put it inside a piece of her food and she ate it like that. We will take her soon for bloodwork to check how her liver is doing with this supplement.
My dog won't eat this. I broke it in 4 pieces and wrapped each piece in a large pill pocket. He wouldn't eat it. Then I ground up some boiled chicken breast and rolled those pill pockets in the ground up chicken. He ate it once. The next time, he wouldn't touch it, even with the pill pocket coated in ground up chicken. And he takes other pills in the pill pockets, no problem! I will have to find something else. Expensive waste. Don't know if it helps, since I can't get it into him! Very disappointed. Certainly NOT easy to administer!
Our dog would not eat these chewables, even when crushed and mixed with moist dog food or ground beef. She went two days without eating and hid in the far corners of the house. Forcing these are not worth the trauma to our dog. Buy a small number of these first and see if your dog will take them before getting more - I have $70 of pills going to waste.
This product seems to be helping my 13-year-old reduce his liver levels. The delivery services is very fast! I only wish the product came in power form so my cat would swallow it easily with his food.
The pills are huge. Even though they are chewable, my Lab, who eats everything, refused to chew them. Kept spitting it out. I called the vet & she said to coat it in some peanut butter. I do & he takes it with no problem.
This brand is highly recommended by my longtime friend who is a vet. I started using the smaller pill form as my dog is a sheltie; I just disguise it and she takes it without any issue. I decided to get this version and did not read the reviews first, which I should have : ). The taste of this version is awful (I tasted it myself---YUK!!!) so I am giving the bottles (I bought 2, another mistake) to my vet friend and she can sell it to her clients if she wants. So make sure you get the smaller ones that you can disguise easily with a tad of peanut butter. Good product, lousy version! Woof!
