How long should you keep your dogs on Proviable?
Answer by ChewyJul 11, 2017
You can keep your dog on this as long as needed or as long as desired. Consulting with your veterinarian is the best way to figure out how long those time frames will be, as all dogs are different.

Great Option for Occasionally Soft Stools

I purchased this large quantity when we thought that my dog was going to need long term probiotic support. However, after changing his food we were able to stop using this product daily and now we use it for the occasional soft stool. Now, I give him one capsule a day for three days and by the 4th day the stool is back to normal. Because of the infrequent use, 80 capsules will likely last 2-3 years and for the price this is a great way to treat soft stools for my dog. However do not take my advice as a treatment plan and always talk to your vet if your pet is experiencing long lasting stool problems!!

Proviable DC Probiotic

This is a great probiotic for either a cat or dog as I have used it for both. If you cat or dog is having loose stools this probiotic will help to firm the stool up. It will also help with gas. I like that all you have to do is open the capsule up and sprinkle on top of the dry food or you can mix it into wet food.

probiotic does help

My dog has had digestive issues, sensitive stomach with frequent diarrhea, since I got him as a puppy. I started him on this probiotic at recommendation of the vet about 8 months ago. About 3 months ago he had bad diarrhea for a few days resulting in several vet visits and multiple food switches since then. Vet had me try discontinue the probiotic for about a week to see if it made a difference. In that week my dog went between constipated and loose stool which was green and had a strong odor. Although it’s not perfect or a cure all, I can definitely say the probiotic helps. I’ll be keeping him on it for the foreseeable future!

Really works!

My cat was using the Purina RX probiotic to combat loose stools after a round of strong antibiotics. It didn't help. Another vet recommended Proviable because it doesn't contain fillers or flavoring that can hurt a cat will food sensitivities. Proviable worked like a charm. Within 3 days, no more loose stool.

1 capsule in dinner Made my dog vomit and sick

These made my 13 yr old shih tzu furbaby very sick. I gave her one capsule mixed in with evening meal at 6pm and she was up vomiting her dinner at 12am. Then she proceeded to have severe upset tummy all thru the night and vomited yellow bile several more times at 330 am, 5am, 7am and 9am.. I am VERY upset and do not know why this made her SICK, as I have given her this very same probiotic a couple years ago and she had no issues at all with it. This was expensive and made my poor girl SICK. VERY UPSET.

Healthy dog

I have noticed within a week of giving my rescue dog this probiotic that she is scratching less and her eyes have less 'gunk' in the corners. My vet prescribed Proviable to my dog a few months ago when she had some stomach upset. Because she tolerated it well before, I decided to give this to her on a daily basis for her overall health. I did call the vet and was told that I could order directly on the CHEWY.com website. I am so glad that I did!

great stuff

I first ordered the “kit” that also contains the syringe for short term GI relief, but then bc it worked so well on my senior dog I kept her on the capsules indefinitely. The syringe itself I only have her one dose a day and I think by day 2 she was much better. We have to switch up her food so much bc of her pickiness/cancer that if not on something to help, that will wreck her GI. She is also on long term metronidiazole from the vet (which is also a factor and does help) but I feel better knowing she has some good intestinal support as well, as she’s not always eating her senior kibbles (which most also contains pre and probiotics).

These really work!

My vet prescribes these when one of my dogs was having loose poops. They helped her so much that I ordered them from Chewy. I am putting all 4 pups on it. They really work. I haven't seen anything but normal movements in weeks.

really works

This was recommended by my vet for my 9 lb senior cat for horrible, putrid smelling flatulence and feces and breath (picture because she’s adorable). I break open 1 capsule into her wet food 1x daily mixed with water for hydration. She has no problems eating it. Been a game changer. Her breath still smells but before it would make you GAG, now it’s just a little fishy. Her poo immediately would clear out the whole downstairs before, it was awful. Not anymore. Love this stuff.

Great probiotics for your pup!

This supplement has been so helpful as our sweet toy breed (shih tzu-mix) has gotten older and experienced some random intestinal complaints every now and then! - NO more after she started taking this supplement! Highly recommend trying - humans AND dogs definitely seem to benefit by taking in some "good bacteria" for the gut!
