FAQ

What causes bad breath in dogs and cats?

The most common cause of bad breath in dogs and cats is tartar buildup surrounding the teeth. As in people, small particles of food remain in the mouth after eating. Food particles decompose creating conditions where oral bacteria thrive and form dental plaque - a combination of bacteria, mineral and decomposed food. As plaque ages and gingivitis develops into periodontitis, bacteria changes from somewhat irritating strains to bone destroying types that produce hydrogen sulfide and methylmercaptan, two principal odor causing molecules. Was a bit nervous for this, not a great smell but my puppy didn't mind it. She didn't stay still but that's bc she is super energetic. She enjoyed the flavor I believe

  • My dogs and cat hate the taste! Can't even use it.

I've been doing dental care with my dogs and cat for the past several years. I only ever used the Virbac C.E.T toothpaste. Decided to try this since that toothpaste is getting expensive since I brush both my dogs and cats teeth daily. They hate this stuff. It smells awful (to me) but I brush their teeth and they spit it out. I thought it was flavored but I don't think it is. My dogs and cat always felt rewarded with getting their teeth brushed with the C.E.T toothpaste but now they dread it because it seems like this tastes terrible to them. I should of bought the other one since they love it but I can't afford it anymore with how expensive it's gotten... • My dog has shiny white teeth

I have 2 dogs. One will NOT let me brush his teeth at all. We tried all different methods and toothpastes. My other dog doesn't mind me brushing her teeth. She seems to like this toothpaste. So far her teeth look good. I do take them both to get routine dental cleanings though.

  • Dog really dislikes taste!

    By on

This is the first toothpaste made for dogs where my dog refuses to have his teeth brushed because he so dislikes the taste. Usually he thinks of having his teeth brushed in the same way he thinks about receiving a treat-- eagerly waiting with tail wagging as I put the toothpaste on his toothbrush. Since I bought this (got the poultry flavor) and brushed his teeth with it once, he tries to immediately leave the room to escape having his teeth brushed!! So, I recommend trying another toothpaste. Clearly my dog disagrees with the "great tasting" claim on the box...

  • Well liked

    By on

This was a change in a toothpaste product for my dog and I was afraid he would balk at having his teeth brushed. Not so. He seems to enjoy it as much as a treat. It comes out of the tube much easier than the previous paste we had used.

  • Can't Use - Dog Hates Taste

My dog hates the taste, too. He wants nothing to do with it, so it's useless for us.

I really liked the price of this item compared to the other toothpastes. I was not too impressed with the smell. I really prefer the mint or peanut butter or vanilla. This works just as well as the other brands though
