Can this be used in freshwater tanks as well?

The Phosi-Ex can be used in saltwater or freshwater. The dosing instructions are the same for both.

Does this product deplete itself over time? Once it absorbs the phosphate does it release it back into the water if it’s not replaced periodically?

After 2 weeks of using this media, the phosphate removing capacity becomes less effective, though it will still work as intended. The phosphate will not be released back into the water. It is recommended to change the media after 4 weeks of running.
