How often should this litter be completely switched out? As box completely emptied and completely new litter put in.
Answer by LalaMar 08, 2022
I have two cats, scoop twice a day, and change it when it starts to smell, usually after about a month.

Did Okocat recently change their formula? I'm used to it looking like tan color, but the last box I ordered, the litter was an orange color and was slightly smaller in texture.
Answer by ChewyDec 31, 2019
Okocat has been produced in Germany in the past, however recently they have built a domestic cat litter manufacturing plant at their Jesup, Georgia facility to produce the same litter. With the species of wood raw material being different in Germany versus Georgia, there are minor variabilities in color, scent, and appearance. The product specifications and performance attributes remain the same. Their domestic litter is made from local sustainably sourced Georgia softwoods – which include spruce, pine, and fir.

Is this septic safe ?
Answer by ChewyFeb 15, 2023
Okocat natural wood kitty litters are flushable and have been certified by SGS in accordance with ANSI standards (ASME A112.19.6. (JRS)) However, local limitations should be considered and flushing is not recommended if on a septic system. As well, the state of California has a referendum against flushing cat litter for protection of the sea lion population, since cat feces can harm sea lions.

Has anyone ever mixed this with clay litter and if so, how does it work?
Answer by ChewySep 25, 2017
You should mix litters when transitioning your cat from the old one to the new one. When your cat is used to the new litter dispose of your old litter appropriately.

A plusfor my kitties

I recently switched from using the Breeze system for a number of reasons; just got too expensive, kitties have loose stools and one flat out refused to pee in them. I also wanted to use an automatic cleaning box (this litter is not compatible) but it scared me babies to death and I thought they wouldn't use it so unplugged. I really like this litter, I have three cats using one box (I know not recommended), and I do scoop 3-4 times a day, but I've not had any problems with clumping and my one kitty that wouldn't pee in a box, even with clay litter, is using the box. One problem I have is that it tracks everywhere! I need to get a foot pad to learn this. There doesn't seem to be much dust, that I've noticed. So whether it works in my automatic box or not I'll keep using it. I like the clean smell, kind of woodsy, but not over powering and no heavy perfumes.

Clumps really well, and practically odorless!

I love using wood pellet litter for my cat, and I was excited to find this cobbled litter because he doesnt like the bigger pieces too much. I was shocked at how well it clumps! It is just as good as clay litter for sure, and without the dusty cloud of ammonia which hurts both my lungs and my cats lungs. Sometimes when my cat buries improperly there is some odor but overall there is very little. Great litter!

Okocat Litter

This is the best litter for odor control of urine. Since it is lightweight, it is easy to clean with a wide sifting scoop. And it costs us much less for Okocat than regular clay clumping litter. Chewy has a better price than our local pet supply store and love that it is delivered to our front door with free shipping when we meet the minimum amount.

WAY Better than Clay Litter

I have four cats and I've tried basically every kind of litter and this one is by far my favorite. They do still track a little, but it's nothing compared to their old clay litter, and the smell is heavily reduced by the wood pellets, especially compared to types like Pretty Litter. I do recommend mixing it in with your current litter to get the kitties used to it, and keep in mind that some scoopers might not have big enough spaces for the litter to fall through.

I like the switch!

I switched from a large particle clumping clay litter to this hoping for less tracking but getting the same clumping characteristics and scent control. I am happy to say after using this for about two weeks I'm very pleased. The odor control for urine is great - I don't smell a thing. It does take a few minutes to control the poop smells, but once it kicks in all I can smell is freshly cut wood. My cat took to the new litter very easily and doesn't seem bothered by the texture or size. It definitely tracks less than the clay litter. That doesn't mean it doesn't track at all, but there's definitely less around the box than with the clay. The only thing I had issues with was my old scoop didn't really work with the particle size and wouldn't let a lot of the unused pellets through. However, I got a new slated stainless steel scoop (link here from chewy! https://www.chewy.com/van-ness-stainless-steel-cat-litter/dp/306797) that works perfectly for scooping this litter.

Just ok, won't buy again

Really wanted to love this litter, but it's not my fav. The woody smell is lovely, but odor control overall wasn't any better than the clay litter I used previously. The tracking is a NIGHTMARE. After two days using this litter, there are wood bits all over my house. I was expecting some tracking since I've yet to try a litter that doesn't to some extent, but this is way worse than any other I've tried so far. I bought two bags and am already unenthused about using it up before going back to my old litter.

has a lot of dust

I have been using this litter for almost a year with my cat. I originally got it because i liked the eco-friendly approach and it clumped well and it was pretty smell proof. My cat has recently started having asthma attacks and I’m trying to eliminate any allergens so unfortunately I’m having to transition out of this litter due to the dust. Just be aware that this litter is good at clumping and containing smell but it does kick up a lot of dust in the box and when cleaning. I know Okocat has paper pellets that say they are dust free so maybe those would be better for humans and cats with asthma

Best litter By far

I've been using this litter for years, ever since I came across and have it a try. Really... It's better than any litter I've tried and over 14 yrs, that's been a lot. 1st it's biodegradable, which is a huge plus for me. 2nd really keeps the order away! I have 2 cats and even if I forget to scoop a day or even two, no smell. 3 long lasting. I can go an easy 2 weeks before doing a total replace of litter... Again, no smell and a little goes a long way.

Tracks everywhere

Really thought this will help with the tracking but I find it everywhere, sofa, my bed, the stairs. Really not happy with it. It clumps OK. Some of the pieces do break up easily, dirtying the rest of the litter. Really looking for a litter that stays in the box & not end up on my bed.

Unfortunately, no thanks

Litter was incredibly dusty, and in some cases instead of clumping it nearly liquidized, turning into a gel when it came into contact with our cats' urine. It stuck to the litterbox and was a mess to clean up. I ended up returning it.
