Questions & Answers

14 Customer Questions

Since this litter is manufactured from reclaimed wood, can you please confirm that it's made of chemically untreated wood?
Answer by ChewyOct 03, 2017
Okocat clumping products are natural products, produced from 100% renewable organic fiber - raw material without artificial and chemical additives. For the production of Okocat they only use finest organic fibers, which come from untreated softwoods (hemlock, pine, fir and spruce wood).

I have 3 litter boxes, 3 cats. How long do you think a box of this litter would last me? I'm surprised it doesn't come in a bigger box for families with multiple cats.
Answer by ChewyJan 01, 2018
At this time the largest box made by the manufacturer is 16.7 pounds.

The packaging doesn't say anything about dust. Is this "super soft" version dusty?
Answer by ChewyApr 14, 2018
This litter claims to have zero to no dust. Okocat screens the wood litter to remove 99.9% of all dust prior to putting it into a package. However, a small amount of dust may remain on the surface of each pellet.

Would this litter work with the litter robot?
Answer by ChewyJul 11, 2022
We only recommend using this litter in a manual type of litter machine, not automatic, as the formed clumps should sit for 1-2 hours before sifting for best results.

Amazing litter for declawed cats

My old man cat doesn't have claws and needs soft litter. I've tried all non-clay options out there. World's Best just wasn't clumping or controlling odor, and my previous favorite grass-pellet-based option clumped very well but just tracked everywhere. I also liked the walnut shell types, but it tracked and stained everything brown. Okocat is essentially sawdust/wood shavings, but it smells pleasant like a woodshop and clumps amazingly clean...no stray bits of urine in the box means this is already lasting me twice as long as other substrates AND is a lot lighter and better for odor control. I paired my box with a very large, high pile microfiber bath mat to catch the litter this time and so far, so great. I wish I'd switched a long time ago.

Clumping Issues

Okocat used to be good. For about the past 6 months I've noticed that it doesn't clump well at all. I enmailed Okocat and they said that the wood breaks down differently during the high heat processing, and offered a $3 coupon off a new box. I don't want a new box. I want a litter that clumps, especially for the cost. I'm seriously thinking of changing. It tracks terribly because it doesn't clump properly. So disappointed.

Nice litter, worth extra $

I got this litter in clumping pellet form at first, and none of our cats were buying into the idea of wood pellet litter. So I switched to the soft paws version and we have been slowly transitioning from clay to the Okocat soft-so far everyone, including the humans are liking this new style of litter. There is waaay less dust and smell, and even though the product is expensive, it is lasting longer than any litter we have ever used. Chewy shipped the item quickly and we are very happy that they carry this item.

5 Stars odor control 3 Stars Messy

I bought this when Chewy was out of the original Okocat. Hands down the best litter for odor control. I have had different house guests comment unsolicited how our litter boxes have no smell. The original formula is more of a pellet. It’s easiest to use a broom and doesn’t work well with a vacuum. But it’s much less messy and doesn’t go far from the litter box. That said Okocat litter is the ONLY litter I will use.

Good odor control, but dusty & hard to clean

This litter has a pretty strong pine smell, which is helpful for odor control but I'm not sure that my cat is a fan. I don't know where they got the '99% dust free' because it is absolutely dusty. When cleaning, you have to shake the scoop in order to separate the 'clean' wood from the rest (rather than it all sliding through the scoop like clay litter), which is time-consuming and creates tons of dust. I will use the rest of this (very large!) bag but won't order again.

Has it's uses

Okocat litters, both textures, work well at controlling odor. Both work well in regular litterboxes. Though this finer one is better in a standard raking type automatic litterbox (neither work in Litter Robot). My best experience with this litter is in combination with Pretty Litter. Unlike clay or dark litters, wood litter stays light even when wet. So you can still see what color Pretty Litter turns to monitor your cat's health! I mix them about 50/50. Okocat handles the odor and urine absorbtion that Pretty Litter lacks. Together they work almost purrfectly! (Though I'm about to try grass litter next as it is also light and they say it clumps better and therefore would work better in my automatic litterboxes.)

Okocat super soft clumping litter

We have tried almost everything for our DaMu. With his allergies to his own dander as well as chronic sinusitis - this seems to be the one least affecting him. We even tried Pretty litter.p The only complaint is DaMu tracking it everywhere.

reccomend !!

This litter smells like wood even after having it in the box for a month. I hate having dusty litter or stinky litter which are the problems I always ran into. Yes it can track minimally like any other litter out there but I have nothing but good things to say! Also I didn’t even need to transition, my picky cat just took to it.

Messy, not for all cats

Only one of my three cats would use this litter even after following the transitioning instructions. It requires a scoop with large holes, and it tracked everywhere my big cat went. Two of my cats would not use it. The smell and odor control was nice. I wish all my cats would use it for environmental reasons.

My cat and I like it so far!

I've used this new litter for about 3 days now and so far so good! I was searching for a new kind since LitterMaid was discontinued. After reading other reviews I decided to try this. She kicks it out a little but does not track it around, it clumps well and no odor problems. Key is that Juliette likes it! She didn't like the last new kind I tried!
