Questions & Answers

I and I'm sure MANY other people would never buy anything without yet seeing an accurate picture. Is there a picture of it out of the box???
Answer by ChewyMay 06, 2020
The Slow Feeder is a silver sphere. Take a look at the photo below.

How do you decide what size to get? My dog food bowls are about 8 inches across. Thank you!
Answer by ChewyMay 07, 2020
For a 8 inch across bowl we would recommend the Large size. The Large size is recommended for medium to large bowls and the Small size is recommended for small bowls.

What are the diameters of the small and large sizes?
Answer by ChewyFeb 01, 2021
The diameter of the small Dog Hog is 2.8 inches, while the large Dog Hog diameter is 3.5 inches.

Can this be put in the freezer to cool down the water?
Answer by ChewyApr 12, 2020
This stainless steel ball may be placed in the freezer.

No more doubts

I have a 1yr German Shepherd. I feed him all natural food and he was literally inhaling his food, so I started giving him his rice HOT, but then he started making a mess of it all over the floor. That worked for awhile, but I still had the floor issue. The DOG HOG sat on the counter for 2 weeks, still having doubts. Will this really work, I asked myself. The other night I fixed his dinner as usual, with one exception, I added the DOG HOG. Usually it takes him about 5min to eat his full bowl of food, last nite it took him 15min, and another plus I got THERE WASN'T A MESS ON MY FLOOR. He didn't push DOG HOG out of his dish and the cleaning of it is very easy. There were several reviews that said they don't know how the size of the DOG HOG looks outside the box. I finely found something that works. Thank you so much DOG HOG.

Slowed her down from 30 seconds to 3 minutes

I was concerned the large would be too big, but I’m happy with my choice. If I had gotten the small, she may have been able to pick it up in her mouth. Our food bowl is 6.15” wide and 2.5” deep (holds 3.5 cups). She had just enough space to stick her nose between the ball and the side of the bowl. She got the hang of it quickly. She managed to push the ball out a couple of times and she would have knocked the bowl over if it weren’t in a stand, so just supervise while they eat.

Did the trick

Bought this for our bully who eats like he was starved in his previous life. He would throw up frequently and have trouble holding his bowels. Initially he would just knock the ball out of his bowl but we just put it right back and after a few times he stopped doing it. Fair warning- you will likely have to size up on your bowls. We had 4 cup and had to switch to 7 cup in order for him to get a big enough portion while keeping the ball in use. No biggie.

Works great for me

Works great for me. I have rectangular bowls and so was looking for something I could use in them. Definitely slows down my gulper! The bowls are 8x6 inches and I got the large.

Slowing Down the Chow Hound

I purchased this for my greyhound who could inhale two cups of food in less than two minutes. It definately slows him down by at least 50%. He nudges it with his nose to move it slightly and manages to get every last kibble in the bowl.

Grateful they chew now

This ball is great for those little chow-hounds who inhale their kibble. The ball allows my little one to move around, take his time and chew his food. Unfortunately, the material used to make this ball is not as heavy as the one I received many, many years ago. My guy is smart enough to nudge it out of his bowl when he can, thats the reason for four stars. The first ball I received definitely worth five stars.

Works for my dog

I bought the large, as I have a greyhound that I feed from stainless steel bowls in an elevated feeder. I did not want to get new bowls, and wanted to continue to use the elevated feeder. For my greyhound, this ball does work, he has to move it around to get to the food. He cannot grab huge mouthfuls of food at one time. It's a big help as he still likes to inhale his food after 3 1/2 years with us. Easy to clean and easy to use. I recommend trying it.

slower eating

this really does help slow our girl down when eating. make sure your bowl isn’t too large for best results. love that it’s stainless steel (no plastic toxins!) and easy to wash.

It works, it really does!

I didn't have luck with the slow feeders made of plastic. My dog would check them up. This works well with my stainless steel bowl and seriously slows down my beagle from inhaling her food!

Didn't Stop

I purchased this ball to slow down my fast-eating pouch. The first few times it slowed her down but she figured out how to push it out of the bowl to get to her food. I feed her canned food, so with her trying to get around the ball, she did what ever she could do to get to her food which made her face a mess after eating.
