Important Information

Fleas rise to the top of your cat's coat as they die, so consider it a triumph if you start seeing more fleas at first, after treating your pet.

Onguard Plus works to eliminate fleas in all life stages. If you’re still seeing fleas after application, it may be because your cat has picked up new fleas from the environment, which may include other pets, surfaces and outdoor areas. Don’t worry, Onguard Plus starts working immediately on any new fleas that get on your cat, eliminating them within 24 hours from contact. It may take up to 30 days to break the entire flea life cycle. Additionally, you should also treat sources of new fleas (i.e., carpet, yard, etc.) to ensure complete flea control.

About Onguard Plus Flea & Tick for Cats

Onguard Plus for cats

One Solution, Powerful Protection

Onguard Plus is a monthly topical spot treatment that helps eliminate fleas and ticks and protects your pet from painful bites and infestations. This flea and tick preventative treatment not only stops ticks and fleas in their tracks, but also prevents the hatching of new fleas and keeps fighting off ticks so your cat can find relief from these pests.

Preventing Fleas at Every Turn

Fleas are not only a nuisance for your kitty, but they may also cause bigger problems like flea allergy dermatitis. The best way to prevent and eliminate a flea problem is to attack them at all life stages, which Onguard Plus does efficiently.

Flea finds a home

Once on your cat, it bites to feed within just 2 hours.

Eggs are laid

In 2 days, an adult flea will lay eggs.

Eggs hatch into larvae

Eggs fall off your pet, scatter around the home, and then hatch.

Larvae turn into pupae

Pupae can wait for up to a year before emerging as adult fleas.

2 Powerful Active Ingredients

Onguard Plus uses two active ingredients that are commonly used to protect cats from fleas and ticks. Fipronil and (S)-methoprene work together to stop an infestation in its tracks and prevent future ones. Fipronil kills adult fleas, ticks and chewing lice and aids eliminating flea eggs and larvae by disrupting their maturation. Together the two create a highly effective flea and tick preventative treatment.

One-Step Application

These topical flea and tick treatments are easy to apply and effective for up to 30 days. Choose from three treatments or six so you can keep your pet protected. Simply apply it between the shoulder blades of your pet, and the long-lasting solution will keep protecting them from fleas and ticks. The formula is both waterproof and sunlight-proof, so you don’t have to worry about reapplication throughout the month.

    Not consistent!!

    By on

Worked the first month, maybe, but unsure it could be that we didn’t have fleas because of the wet weather outside. Dryer months came and my cat was infested. I even put a second dose on him after 3 weeks because we were desperate for relief and from infesting the house. Called vet and they recommended Advantage II, within a day after applying that he was rid of fleas, now to keep it on him to rid Amy that may still be in house.

    By on

so I have 3 cats. they all go outside sometimes so my mom and I thought we’d get a tick and flee medicine. long story short this did not stop anything at all. we put it on them and I have still found fleas and ticks ever since, we have gotten a better medicine now but for $45 it should work better than this. really disappointed in this I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone honestly it got worse after we used it

    one star for Chewy

    By on

Giving 1 star because we love Chewy. This product is supposed to start killing fleas right away but not that I can see. It's frustrating because we used this 2 years ago and it worked but for some reason hasn't worked this time. Chewy is great though so I will continue to buy most of our pet food/stuff here. For flea & tick, not so much.

Not so lucky for my furbabies :(

    By on

I have 4 kittens that came home from their 8 week old vet wellness checks with fleas. I know this bc there was no report that any of them had fleas nor that any were given Capstar while they were there. Most vets give Capstar and charge you for it even if the think they saw a shadow of a flea. Anyway, I purchased the OnGuard Plus bc the reviews were positive: it worked and no mention of nasty side effects...I wish I could say the same were true for me. After the initial application, the babies were jumping around like crazy...I assumed bc the fleas were biting and dying, but here it is 3 days later and they are still biting and scratching like the fleas are active. So beware if you purchase this product, the previous reviewers had luck, but I certainly did not. Happy de-fleaing! … more

    Disappointing

    By on

"You get what you pay for"...?is very true. I bought Onguard for my calico cat thinking this was a good deal. I've had her 7 years and never had fleas until I used Onguard. She was chewing and scratching, just miserable..and I felt bad for her. Examined her and found huge fleas....I have 2 Yorkies and one cat and always kept them treated, no fleas or ticks. Never buy Onguard, get Advantage or another quailty product.

Did NOT work for my cats

    By on

My cats have been on this product for a number of months, seemingly working adequately, then one day I noticed one cat had scabs from flea bites around her neck and ears and the other cat was absolutely covered in flea dirt and fleas! Not to mention the dog, on a prescription flea prevention, also was bother by fleas. What a mess! I hope I'm able to rid my house of fleas. I'm thankful that the cold weather is coming to help with the alleviation!

    Waste of money

    By on

Used this on my cats just over 2 weeks ago and they all still have fleas. When I purchased this product it was brand new with a 5 star rating but since then the rating for it has decreased and I see why! It was overall a waste of money and now I have to wait another 2 weeks to treat them again with a different product!

    great price

    By on

I was first skeptical because of the low price compared to Frontline Plus. It has worked just as well. It also doesn't seem to be as uncomfortable. With the first, my diva cat would hide from me for a day after I applied it. With this, she only hates being held while I apply it.

    Five indoor cats

    By on

My indoor cats still get fleas because live in the country and track them in from the outside animals. I decided to give this a try. They did not try to run or balk when I put it on them. The only one who did always runs if I touch him so ... there's that. It's REALLY easy to administer. It cuts easily and the tube squeezes very easily. It's a small hole so it's not a lot of room for error. VERY simple applicator. None of them seem adversely affected in any way. They are scratching more than normal so I think it's working already. I will amend this if needed.

    Definitely did not work!

    By on

I put this on my cats almost two weeks ago and the fleas are worse instead of better. I'm going to purchase something else and hope that two weeks is long enough to wait so that it doesn't make them ill. I've never written a review on anything, but this stuff is a total waste of money.
