Biologically Appropriate Commitment

Dogs and cats are built like their ancestors, and that's why all of Orijen's recipes are based on five biologically appropriate principles. They start with a variety of unmatched fresh meat inclusions that are rich in protein. Orijen includes whole prey ratios that naturally provide the nutrients your dog needs. Carbs are limited, but there are plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables and cleansing botanicals.

Orijen Dry Dog Food

Whole Prey Foods

In the wild, dogs consume the whole animal to meet their full dietary needs, so Orijen recipes incorporate three whole prey elements in specific ratios.

  • Meat (70−85%) High meat inclusion means all amino acids are provided in natural form, without any synthetic supplements.
  • Edible Bone (5−10%) Bone, marrow and cartilage provide calcium, phosphorus, glucosamine and chondroitin without any artificial additives.
  • Organ Meat (10−15%) Fresh liver and tripe are richly nourishing sources of vitamins and minerals, including iron, zinc, and vitamins A, B and D.

Quality, Sustainable Ingredients

Orijen believes you have a right to know where the ingredients in your dog's food come from. From nest-laid eggs and wild northern pike to juicy orchard-grown apples and crisp garden greens, each ingredient is sourced from local producers they know and trust.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Great So Far Just finished switching our english lab pup over from her original puppy food. The breeder used Hills Science Diet so we kept her on it but decided to upgrade to a higher quality food once she switched over to adult, especially since she stopped eating her kibble unless she was really hungry. Now she's often drooling before I can put the dish on the floor and it's one of the most focused times of the day as she waits for me to say "ok" so she can finally dig in. We were a bit worried about how her digestion would react as she tends to have a somewhat sensitive stomach but she's done great on it so far. We transitioned over about 10 days and I did add a little spoonful of pumpkin with breakfast so that may or may not have helped a bit. Hopefully she continues to love this as it's great to see her so excited to eat her food. While it is pricey, I'm a big believer in your health starting with nutrition and getting as much quality as you can reasonably afford. And for now this seems to be a winner for us. Rated 5 out of 5 by Seriously worth it! I met Gunny, an 8 year old English Bull dog 10 months ago. I fell in love with him (and his man, immediately ). Gunny has had hip surgery and suffers from arthritis . A weight issue exacerbated his problems. His mobility was limited to say the least . A few hours of online research for a grain free dog food(the inflammation connection , I won't go into it....) led me to Orijen. Less than 2 months later there are significant changes. We have a slimmer, extremely more active dog. Gunny runs now instead of trudging, he is satisfied with less food, his flatulence has reduced by at least half,YEAHHH!!! We have also noticed a big difference in coat condition. I had a grooming shop for 16 years, his shedding has reduced by at least 75% . I would recommend Orijen for that reason alone. Needless to say we are thrilled with Orijen ( and still in love with each other, Gunny, his man and I!) Now if we could only get my cat FIDO EARL to come around . But she IS a cat........ Rated 5 out of 5 by Best Dog Food on the Market My year long search for the perfect dog food has finally ended! (Thank you, Orijen!) When we adopted our dog we started out on Merrick, which was the brand recommended by the rescue org where we adopted our dog, but I quickly found that my pup was becoming disinterested in eating her food. We started switching flavors and dog food brands but nothing seemed to work. I also noticed that my dog was somehow gaining weight even though we were extremely careful about how much we fed her. After loads of research I finally decided to try Orijen. Although a little hesitant because of the price, I quickly realized that it is worth EVERY penny. My 2-y/o pup not only devours her food every single feeding now, but her coat is incredibly shiny and smooth and she is noticeably leaner. Orijen's nutrition is second to none and I cannot recommend it enough! I just wish that Chewy sold the Tundra flavor too! October 12, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by The food your dog will love to eat. And good for them! At the time 4 years ago my wife on valintines day went to the county pound and found a 4 year old black Pom. He was rescued in Newberg, OR so not really knowing what to feed him we went to our local feed store/pet store and asked them what everybody was mostly buying, they said Origen and since we wanted to feed our new dog a dry food we choose Whole Prey. The very first bowel of food was a success, he ate it down like he had been eating this food for years. A great thing about this food is its very high in protein, almost 29% that puts it about the highest there is. So about 4 years later we got another Pom, he was about 4 years old at the time. and his first night with us he ate the Whole Pray just like he had always been eating it. One thing though as I said its almost 29% protein and even though our Pom's are only 14 pounds and only eat 3/4 of a cup twice a day, they are in need of less food because they have gained weight and are now 19 pounds each. Just a little too heavy. I write this review after we had found the MFG has moved its plant to Tennessee from Canada and have talked to them extensively about why they moved the plant, changed the ingredients and made the bag smaller. This newer version our youngest Pom now eats his food like he hasn't eat for days and we are very satisfied with this food and there reasons to move the plant and the change in the ingredients. Rated 5 out of 5 by Nothing but the best for the Tob. We have a 3 year old Blue Heeler named Toby and the only food she has ever known is Orijen. We started her on Orijen Puppy food, and then switched to the adult variety when she was a little over a year old. She thrives on it! For those of you familiar with the breed, you know that Australian Cattle Dogs are very high energy dogs. Orijen gives her the energy to run me ragged, and thankfully one of her favorite activities is "fetch". She will spend hours retrieving the ball, a Pine cone, a branch or even a pebble, as long as she gets to run. Thankfully we have a fenced half acre behind our home so she is able to get plenty of exercise. Toby has a beautiful coat, which I brush every day (another favorite activity) and it almost shines. I can't say enough good things about Orijen, it is her "Forever Food". October 3, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Wow! Wow! What a difference this made in my 5 year old lab. Within only 2 weeks we noticed 4 changes in our dog: 1) A lot more energy! We have a 7 month old puppy at home and our older girl now has energy to keep up.; 2) She has had somewhat weepy, red eyes since we got her as a puppy and they are almost totally clear; 3) Her coat is noticeably softer and shinier. We just thought she had a wiry coat - who knew that could change with diet?; 4) She has gained a little bit of weight. Ok, this is not ideal, but what it means is that she actually needs less of the Orijen than the other food we were giving her. It is a little more expensive so it's a good thing that it will now go a little bit farther. All in all, totally worth every penny! We had a great, fun, healthy dog before, but now she's even more super-charged awesome. September 30, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Huge Huge Thanks to Chewy! Huge thanks to Chewy - my labrador is on the mend. Orijen has changed its formula and is manufacturing in Kentucky instead of Canada. My two year lab could not handle the new blend called "original". After calling Orijen they told me Chewy still had some of the Canadian blend called "adult". I placed the order on Monday and it was delivered by FedEx Tuesday morning before we left for a two week trip with the puppy with a bad stomach. What a relief! Now I have the chance to slowly convert him to a new food. We are all feeling better these days. The folks at Chewy called me back to make sure the food arrived and to let me know how much inventory remained so I could plan his diet change-up. You guys are GREAT! October 10, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by My dogs love it Have been trying to find a high quality, grain free food that my 2 dogs would eat and this is it. Tried to do some research on high quality food and the ratings were high. Very happy with results and dogs love it. October 28, 2016
