Orijen Dog Food

Biologically Appropriate Commitment

Dogs and cats are built like their ancestors, that's why all of Orijen's recipes are based on five Biologically Appropriate principals:

  • Rich and Varied in Fresh Whole Meats In nature, dogs benefit from a diversity of prey, so Orijen features meats, organs and cartilage from an assortment of cage-free poultry, free-range red meats and wild-caught fish.
  • Meat and Protein Rich Your dog is a carnivore, adapted for a diet rich in meat and protein. Orijen is loaded with 75-90% meat -- up to three times as much meat as conventional dog foods.
  • Carbohydrates Limited A dog's natural diet contains few, if any, carbohydrates. That's why Orijen replaces fast carbohydrates (such as potatoes and rice) with low-glycemic and regionally-sourced fruits and vegetables.
  • Fresh Fruits, Vegetables and Berries In place of cereal grains that spike blood sugars (such as rice and corn), Orijen features fresh orchard-grown fruits and vegetables that supply fiber and antioxidants in a natural form.
  • Botanicals Strengthen the Body and Spirit Providing an element of your dog's diet that he naturally craves, botanicals boost metabolism, strengthen organs and help cleanse the body of toxins.

Whole Prey Foods

In the wild, dogs consume the whole animal to meet their full dietary needs, so Orijen recipes incorporate three Whole Prey elements in specific ratios.

Meat | 70-85%

High meat inclusions means all amino acids are provided in natural form, without any synthetic supplements.

Edible Bone | 5-10%

5 to 10% bone, marrow and cartilage provide calcium, phosphorus, glucosamine and chondroitin in a natural source, without any artificial additives.

Organ Meat | 10-15%

10 to 15% fresh liver and tripe are a richly nourishing source of vitamins and minerals, including iron, zinc and vitamins A, B and D.

Fresh, Whole Food Ingredients

  • Licorice Root Licorice Root Supplies soluble fiber, soothes and nourishes the digestive tract, cleanses the colon and reduces insulin levels.
  • Cranberries and Blueberries Cranberries and Blueberries Rich in antioxidants, supports immunity and urinary health.
  • Angelica Root and Fenugreek Angelica Root and Fenugreek Supports digestion and provides protective antioxidants that defend the kidney against chronic damage.
  • Butternut Squash Butternut Squash Loaded with healthy fiber and a natural source of vitamins including B6 for immune support.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Really glad I swapped I had my dog on TOTW and he did well for a while, then he got to where he wasnt eating it very good. I wanted to try something different so I got two small bags, one was Orijen Original grain free, the other Acana Appalachian Ranch. I put a small bowl of each food, his current brand, Taste of the Wild, the new bag of Acana Appalachian Ranch, and the Orijen. My dog went for the Orijen First and devoured it. He was sniffing around the bag like he wanted more, but then he started eating the small bowl of the Acana. Now, after about two weeks of trying to use up these two bags, I have decided that he seems to really like both, but would chose the Orijen First if he has a choice. His fur/coat was already shiny, but now, he looks like he has pixie dust sprinkled on him...he just sparkles and looks so healthy. I can tell he feels good as well. He is like a puppy jumping around and playing. I am really impressed with this food. It's a little expensive but the company handles every aspect of manufacturing this food. Acana and Orijen are both made by Champion Dog foods and this company is truly unique. They use local farmers and do not outsource any part of The process and only quality products are used. Thank you for a quality product! August 21, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Six paws up!! I have three NOT picky dogs - they eat literally anything. They are easy-going, don't have tummy troubles, and are happy pups. My oldest is 13, middle is 9, and youngest is 5; they range in size from 15 lbs to 80 lbs. All three LOVE this food more than anything they have ever tried (more than any dry food, that is). And for their SUPER picky vegetarian owner, it is a winner because I feel great about feeding my dogs this food. It is truly the best you can buy and I don't worry about what is mixed into their dry food. I mix this with a can of Weruva wet food, add in a few pumps of salmon oil, and sneak their joint supplement in, and they LOVE it. I love my dogs, so it is worth it to me to spend a bit more on their dog food. August 16, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Wonderful! I have a very picky 6.5 year old Yorkie and have struggled to find something good for her that she doesn't just throw out of her bowl. I have tried breed specific food, "natural" food, popular food brands, and after more research I discovered Orijen and decided to give it a try. This is the only food that Chloe gets excited about! And I've noticed a positive change in her energy level as well as the tear stains she has always gotten. I even tried mixing this with her old food to not make a harsh transition, and she literally took all of the old food out, set it on the floor, and ate only the Orijen food. It's safe to say she really enjoys this food! I was nervous because they didn't have a small bites version for her, but the morsels are soft, so it's great for her. I'm really excited that we finally found something that's good for her and something she loves! July 20, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great !!!! We have pugs and a boxer and they all love this food They all seem to eat less and are very full and content I have a pug who is allergic to ???? But this food is very calming for him. We also love ordering from chewy. The prices are better then elsewhere and they have great customer service. We ordered the wellness Core food At first and we're going to return it but Chewy gave us a prompt refund and told us to donate the food to our local shelter love that. They have earned our bussiness from that alone August 20, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by My dog goes crazy for this stuff I have a 2-year old 13 lb rescue (JRT/Poodle mix) and have dabbled in different brands since adopting her. It felt like a splurge to try Orijen but she was struggling with some itching in early fall that I wasn't sure was from her food or seasonal allergies. I am also very particular about my human family's food, we try to be organic and non-GMO as much as possible and I really wanted a high quality food for her as well. Anyway, it certainly passes the taste test. I've never seen her react this way to any other brand, she just inhales it and doesn't leave one morsel behind. She is healthy and happy and I see no reason to switch - she just passed her yearly vet check-up with flying colors. It's pricey but she's a small dog so I don't go through bags quickly but I think it would be worth it for a St. Bernard. My hope & ultimate goal is a foundation of high quality nutrition will keep her less likely to have cancer down the road, so many of my friends have lost their dogs to cancer lately. December 7, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Our dogs love the food. Our dogs love to eat everything. But this is the first time we've caught them munching from the bag when we weren't looking. Not only is this product good for them ... they love it! It doesn't get any better than that. August 22, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very Healthy And Good Food My Yorkie is. Picky eater but loves this stuff. Seems more active and alert August 21, 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by Great Product, my dog didn't like it Received product and was super excited after all the reviews I read about it and the great ingredients. Over a weeks time my dog did not take to the food much. Experimented with another brand that my dog likes and he ate that instead of Orijen. Disappointed but it still is a great product.
