Orijen Dog Food

Biologically Appropriate Commitment

Dogs and cats are built like their ancestors, that's why all of Orijen's recipes are based on five Biologically Appropriate principals:

  • Rich and Varied in Fresh Whole Meats In nature, dogs benefit from a diversity of prey, so Orijen features meats, organs and cartilage from an assortment of cage-free poultry, free-range red meats and wild-caught fish.
  • Meat and Protein Rich Your dog is a carnivore, adapted for a diet rich in meat and protein. Orijen is loaded with 75-90% meat -- up to three times as much meat as conventional dog foods.
  • Carbohydrates Limited A dog's natural diet contains few, if any, carbohydrates. That's why Orijen replaces fast carbohydrates (such as potatoes and rice) with low-glycemic and regionally-sourced fruits and vegetables.
  • Fresh Fruits, Vegetables and Berries In place of cereal grains that spike blood sugars (such as rice and corn), Orijen features fresh orchard-grown fruits and vegetables that supply fiber and antioxidants in a natural form.
  • Botanicals Strengthen the Body and Spirit Providing an element of your dog's diet that he naturally craves, botanicals boost metabolism, strengthen organs and help cleanse the body of toxins.

Whole Prey Foods

In the wild, dogs consume the whole animal to meet their full dietary needs, so Orijen recipes incorporate three Whole Prey elements in specific ratios.

Meat | 70-85%

High meat inclusions means all amino acids are provided in natural form, without any synthetic supplements.

Edible Bone | 5-10%

5 to 10% bone, marrow and cartilage provide calcium, phosphorus, glucosamine and chondroitin in a natural source, without any artificial additives.

Organ Meat | 10-15%

10 to 15% fresh liver and tripe are a richly nourishing source of vitamins and minerals, including iron, zinc and vitamins A, B and D.

Fresh, Whole Food Ingredients

  • Licorice Root Licorice Root Supplies soluble fiber, soothes and nourishes the digestive tract, cleanses the colon and reduces insulin levels.
  • Cranberries and Blueberries Cranberries and Blueberries Rich in antioxidants, supports immunity and urinary health.
  • Angelica Root and Fenugreek Angelica Root and Fenugreek Supports digestion and provides protective antioxidants that defend the kidney against chronic damage.
  • Butternut Squash Butternut Squash Loaded with healthy fiber and a natural source of vitamins including B6 for immune support.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Very good for this picky eater My rottweiler is 1.5yes old now and his entire life I've been trying to find something that he'd not only be eager to eat but that would agree with his stomach. I've tried food for sensitive stomachs which worked great until he just stopped eating it randomly. I mixed this food in with his old food and ran out of his old food before the 14 day transition period. His poop was like soft served ice cream for 4 days before it started firming up. He's almost 100% now and he's so eager to eat now, powering through meals without stopping. The ingredients in this food are great! I didn't realize how many good things were in this dog food until I got it home. I've heard great things about this brand and it's the only one for my pet and I that's stayed true to the reviews. For those who are thinking it's pricey, it's worth it. I try to feed my rotti the best food and this is definitely amongst the best brands in the world. Hopefully as time passes I can say this was the only food I fed my dog since he was 1.5yrs old. August 2, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Worth every penny I've been buying Orijen for my huskies since they were 6 weeks and they LOVE it. Recently I had to switch them to Purina then another high quality brand since Orijen was getting a bit pricey but they would not eat it so I thought they were getting sick or something I switched them back to Orijen and they eat it all right away. I was told by the vet that the "best" puppy food was Purina puppy chow since apparently Orijen has a lot of protein so i decided to try it out but I noticed that they would shed a lot more than the usual and their fur did not look that great like it did before though I didn't think the food had to do anything with it but I was wrong. I understand that huskies shed but normally my oldest sheds but not as much that is not noticeable unless you pet him you can really see it since a bunch of hair comes out luckily since I switched them back the fur started to look better again and the shedding is not as bad as it used to be. Orijen might be a bit expensive but honestly it is worth it, if you want to give your puppy good food then definitely try it out. August 1, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Large Breed Puppy Food My rescue ended up being a large breed of some kind so I needed to find a large breed food. This food has great ingredients with none of those "fillers" in it. Bonus is... My puppy loves it. I even taste tested the Orijen with other food I had tried and he wouldn't touch the other stuff. Orijen will be the only food he eats from now on. August 20, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome Food! My dog LOVES mealtimes! She inhales this stuff. Her fur is super soft and shiny and at 6 months she still has puppy breath. I rarely bathe her because she barely needs it and I credit the healthy ingredients in Origen for that. She's an English Mastiff and she's growing more slowly than her litter mates, which I think is healthier in the long run. My previous mastiffs always had problems with their ears but this pup's ears are clean and healthy without any effort from us. I'm thrilled with the quality of this food. August 8, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Best Kibble!? Might have given 5 stars, but this is the first time purchasing and would like to reserve a 5 star rating until some length of time using this product has passed. My overall impression of this product thus far is one of complete satisfaction. I have switched from a competitors food due to possible false advertising suit against them (use of by-products), and one of their main selling points was the non use of such!?......anyway back to Orijen,....first delivery, bag was vacuum packed and upon opening could tell this was not your average kibble!...like you could just smell the protein and quality!....my Siberian Husky took to it right away with no side effects (vomiting and/or diarrhea). This purchase from this company and product was made by me due to tons of positive reviews by numerous forums, pages, sites and customers, and I can see why! I am thus far happy with the ingredients and overall purchase!......would recommend! (My purchase if interested was large breed puppy from ORIJEN). May 29, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Worth the price! I have a 5 month old Labrador that I transitioned from Purina puppy chow to Orijen after researching different options online and the difference is amazing! She isn't shedding as much, her coat is so soft and beautiful, no more soft stools and she gobbles it right up! So far I am very pleased and hope that by feeding her the best ingredients, even though a bit pricey, it will save money on vet bills in the long run. Best part is it's guaranteed delivery in 2 days and so far, always on time! August 9, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fantastic puppy food I purchased this after trying a few other high-quality brands for my 6 month old boxer. I debated between the regular puppy formula and puppy large, but decided on the puppy large based on some research and the calcium levels. My pup is SUPER active (seriously... He never stops!) and therefore has a hard time bulking up because he's constantly burning off what he's taking in. He seems to be putting on more lean muscle since switching. The transition over was so smooth and quick with no digestive issues. In fact, since switching, his stools are much firmer and less frequent. He loves the formula as well - always looks forward to his meals. I was hesitant to buy this due to the price and also the chicken ingredients (one of the most common food allergies for dogs) but the ingredients are fresh and natural which, in my mind, justifies the pricing a little more. Overall, very pleased with this food. May 31, 2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by Too rich for my puppy. After three days of partially transitioning my 16 week old standard poodle to Orijen from Natural Balance, he became increasingly gassy and began to have diarrhea. I was seeking a grain-free puppy food specifically for large breeds. I just ordered Fromm gold large breed grain free instead, so hopefully that works better. Bummed I bought a $50 bag of the Orijen!
