Biologically Appropriate Commitment

Dogs and cats are built like their ancestors, and that's why all of Orijen's recipes are based on five biologically appropriate principles. They start with a variety of unmatched fresh meat inclusions that are rich in protein. Orijen includes whole prey ratios that naturally provide the nutrients your dog needs. Carbs are limited, but there are plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables and cleansing botanicals.

Orijen Dry Dog Food

Whole Prey Foods

In the wild, dogs consume the whole animal to meet their full dietary needs, so Orijen recipes incorporate three whole prey elements in specific ratios.

  • Meat (70−85%) High meat inclusion means all amino acids are provided in natural form, without any synthetic supplements.
  • Edible Bone (5−10%) Bone, marrow and cartilage provide calcium, phosphorus, glucosamine and chondroitin without any artificial additives.
  • Organ Meat (10−15%) Fresh liver and tripe are richly nourishing sources of vitamins and minerals, including iron, zinc, and vitamins A, B and D.

Quality, Sustainable Ingredients

Orijen believes you have a right to know where the ingredients in your dog's food come from. From nest-laid eggs and wild northern pike to juicy orchard-grown apples and crisp garden greens, each ingredient is sourced from local producers they know and trust.

Fresh, Whole Food Ingredients

Orijen uses fresh, regional ingredients that are GMO-free and sustainably and ethically produced.

Supplies soluble fiber, soothes and nourishes the digestive tract, cleanses the colon, and reduces insulin levels.

Orijen Puppy Large Breed Grain-Free Dry Dog Food is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 432.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Food, but still think it's a little pricey. So far this food has been great for my 15 week old Dogue de Bordeaux puppy. He likes the food, though he still likes to try and steal his big brothers food. You can tell that it is a high quality food as soon as you open the bag. My only complaint is that the food is really expensive for a 25lb bag. I still find it hard to believe that I am paying that much for dog food (and only 25lbs of it). Let's be honest 25lbs doesn't go that far when you are feeding a mastiff puppy. However, I believe that this food and the nutritional benefits that it offers my puppy are well worth it. There isn't another food on the American market that can even touch it's quality. I would love it is Orijen would find it in their hearts to keep the recipe/nutritional values the same, but not charge you as much for the food. Everyone should have the ability to feed their dogs such good food, but let's be honest not everyone can afford to feed their dogs an $80(plus) dog food.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect food for large breeds I have a large breed mutt (lab, husky mix). Before that I had a labrador with hip dysplasia and I was determined to not have the same problem again. Calcium, phosphorus and total calories make a big difference in the progression to hip dysplasia. Orijen has the perfect balance of proteins, fats, calcium, phosphorus and calories. Bumble's coat shines so well people always comment on it. A year later, he has grown to be a solid, perfectly built dog with a beautiful coat. Orijen is probably the best dog food out there when you take into consideration the nutritional balance as well as ethical sourcing. It's worth the cost. Go for it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well, if only it were free ;). We're pet owners, so I can say had some issues with our puppy (an oversized Rhodesian Ridgeback, currently 105lbs at shy of seven months old) having running poops (or stools if you're queezy). He also was acting pretty hungry all the time, both on the breeder's food and on the one we upgraded to--and was continuing to have the runny stools. Three days on Orijen and his poops were glorious ;). It's expensive, sure, especially for a big dog who's still growing. It's worth it, though!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from They ruined a great food I have an extremely picky eater in my bloodhound puppy. I went through every kind of large breed dog food out there to get him to eat. I was overjoyed when he LOVED Orijen. He's been eating like a champ for months, and suddenly, stopped eating this past week with this new bag. I noticed the food looked different, and obviously, he did too. He won't eat this new formula. I'm so disappointed in Orijen. I had hoped to keep him on this brand throughout his life stages, but now I'm back to the drawing board and finding a new dog food brand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good for this picky eater My rottweiler is 1.5yes old now and his entire life I've been trying to find something that he'd not only be eager to eat but that would agree with his stomach. I've tried food for sensitive stomachs which worked great until he just stopped eating it randomly. I mixed this food in with his old food and ran out of his old food before the 14 day transition period. His poop was like soft served ice cream for 4 days before it started firming up. He's almost 100% now and he's so eager to eat now, powering through meals without stopping. The ingredients in this food are great! I didn't realize how many good things were in this dog food until I got it home. I've heard great things about this brand and it's the only one for my pet and I that's stayed true to the reviews. For those who are thinking it's pricey, it's worth it. I try to feed my rotti the best food and this is definitely amongst the best brands in the world. Hopefully as time passes I can say this was the only food I fed my dog since he was 1.5yrs old.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Competitors' Ingredients Don't Compare!!! I own two catahoula leopard puppies and as a health and fitness coach, I found it hypocritical if I didn't provide the highest standard of nutrition for them as I hold for myself (I would prefer a raw diet but I just don't have that kind of time). Orijen was recommended to me from a dog trainer who is extremely particular in what she feeds her dogs. After thorough side-by-side ingredient research across many brands, Orijen proved to be the very best. I even looked at switching recently to save a bit of money but I just can't do it. The competitors' ingredients just don't compare. My pups are wild and crazy and always so full of energy with a shiny, excellent coat. I never ever give them a bath because they don't stink and just don't need it. I'm extremely pleased with their slow rate of growth (9 mo. old and only half the weight of their parents) since they are large breed puppies and I believe the formulation of the food is the reason for that. I will use Orijen for life! :)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from BUYER BEWARE!!! We started our German Shepherd on this food and he absolutely loved it. Crystal white eyes, beautiful coat, growing like a weed (60lbs at 6 months!). I bought the 28.6lb bag from Chewy primarily and you could just tell by the color and smell how great this dog food was - our dog devoured it. However this month I noticed they were out of the big bag so I went to my local store to purchase it (no 28.6lb bag there either so I bought the 25lb) and my pup would not touch the new formulation (smaller kibble, slight change in color, much different smell). I took it back to the store and the manager told me that Orijen decided to change the formulation, giving you less product with more filler and less meat. What a disappointment. He (the manager) was wildly disappointed in the brand as well, but suggested I try Canagan, the American alternative premium food. I went home with Canagan Large Breed and he seems to be ok on that but unfortunately Chewy does not carry Canagan. Hope to see it in the line up soon. I would NOT recommend Orijen, so disappointing when a great brand like this lets their loyal customers (and more importantly, their animals) down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from INCREDIBLE FOOD. Nothing compares. We have now 1 year old Doberman Pinscher named Naia. We have fed this food since she was 8 weeks old...it's expensive. Trust me I know. But the quality can NOT be beat. Both Orijen and Acana are made by champion pet foods. Orijen is higher in meat content. That's about it. Both are grain, corn, wheat, soy, potato, and rice free. Potato and rice are startches that turn to sugar. Sugar is always bad. Anything from cancer, to yeast to tooth decay feeds off of it. This brand leaves it out! They are a test and hold facility , which means they test and hold each batch to prevent recalls. They never outsource. Meaning they do not get their meats from anywhere else. ONLY their free-range grass fed farmers. Champion pet foods goes by European standards even though it is now made in the U.S. Sadly European guidelines surpass ours with flying colors, compared to AAFCO. They use whole animal proteins; including, cartilage , organs and bone. JUST like they would eat in the wild. If you take a look in the ingredients towards the end they have added multiple botanicals that ALL have their purpose. Look them all up. From boosting the immune system to detoxification. At the very end, they've even added probiotics. The formulas have changed since there's now a plant in the US, however no other food in my book can surpass this brand. Our puppy has grown SO well , she is shiny, she is healthy, and the vet is amazed how good she has done on this food. It is expensive but because they leave out all of the fillers and junk, you feed less. We fed her 3 cups max during the different stages as she was growing. (Weight chart on back) Compared to other brands we would be feeding 5-6 cups. Her poo got smaller and even though it IS POOP, it was less smelly. Less waste is made because they take so much from the food. I highly recommend to check their website out, we will always feed food from champion pet foods. Nothing can compare.
