Biologically Appropriate Commitment

Dogs and cats are built like their ancestors, and that's why all of Orijen's recipes are based on five biologically appropriate principles. They start with a variety of unmatched fresh meat inclusions that are rich in protein. Orijen includes whole prey ratios that naturally provide the nutrients your dog needs. Carbs are limited, but there are plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables and cleansing botanicals.

Orijen Dry Dog Food

Whole Prey Foods

In the wild, dogs consume the whole animal to meet their full dietary needs, so Orijen recipes incorporate three whole prey elements in specific ratios.

  • Meat (70−85%) High meat inclusion means all amino acids are provided in natural form, without any synthetic supplements.
  • Edible Bone (5−10%) Bone, marrow and cartilage provide calcium, phosphorus, glucosamine and chondroitin without any artificial additives.
  • Organ Meat (10−15%) Fresh liver and tripe are richly nourishing sources of vitamins and minerals, including iron, zinc, and vitamins A, B and D.

Orijen believes you have a right to know where the ingredients in your dog's food come from. From nest-laid eggs and wild northern pike to juicy orchard-grown apples and crisp garden greens, each ingredient is sourced from local producers they know and trust.

  • Picky dog does not approve

    By on

Thinking that my dog liked the orijen original, she'd love and drool over this. I have never been so wrong in my life, she wouldn't even touch or sniff it even when I slowly transitioned her into this from her original. As a veterinary assistant I became super paranoid thinking she might've been sick and ran tests on her but in the end it was just the food. So if you have a picky dog like me, I would definitely not recommend this. The weird thing though is that she loves the freeze dried version of this protein, just not the kibble.

  • Nothing but the best

    By on

This is the best Kibble on the market, hands down, compare the first 20 ingredients to any other dry kibble on the market. I have an 85lb East German Shepherd who is an active 16 month old. We always fed him what we thought was good food ( he had other ideas though) in Holistic Health Extension and then we switched to Taste of the Wild. He would often turn his nose up at these brands of kibble, giving us that....not this again look and leaving without taking a bite. We decided to bite the bullet and try Orijen and have noticed a huge difference in how much he likes this product and his coat and stools have been better for it as well. Why have hamburger when you can have a steak!

  • You CANNOT get ANY better!!

This is by far the best quality dog food you can purchase. Let me Tell you why. It's grain, corn, wheat , soy, tapioca , potato, sweet potato, and rice free. Potatoes and rice can cause yeast issues and they leave them out. Very hard to find in other brands. They have their own grass fed, free-range, local farners. It's antibiotic, hormone and GMO free. The fish are wild caught or responsibly farmed. The farmers sell exclusively to them with the exception of a few that sell to high end restaurants. Yes, the meat is human grade! They never outsource, meaning they have their own facility to make the food and do not let anyone else make the food. In addition, they test and hold every batch to prevent recalls! They've never had a recall! All the meat arrives within several days of harvest and 2/3 is put directly into the food. The other 1/3 is flash frozen , different from regular freezing. This preserves as many nutrients as possible. They use whole prey ratios . Meat, ORGAN, CARTILAGE , AND BONE. Just like in the wild. The carbs they use are kept to a minimum and are low on the glycemic index. They burn slow for lasting energy. Our 60 pound Doberman Pinscher eats only 2.75 cups of Orijen per day. She is VERY active too. A little goes a long way. They have left out the poor quality fillers. Lastly they use many botanicals like rosehips and sarsaparilla root...which all have their purposes from detoxifying the body to strengthening the immune system. Topped off with probioitics at the end! Our pup looks like an oil slick in the distance, and by FAR the shiniest Doberman we have seen ..no yeast issues, nothing. Her health is at its peak! Take a look at the attached photos. She has aren't it since 8.5 weeks old! Will never feed anything else, and working at a specialty food store, I saw many people who say the food completely turned their dog's health around. It really is worth the money and you truly know you are putting the absolute BEST in your dog! … more

  • Excellent Food

    By on

Harry Potter (50-lb bc-lab mix) likes this new food. Previously he was eating the Origen fish dinner. It has had the positive effect of firming up his poop. I feel confident that it is safe. The reason it got 4 stars is because of price. It seemed to me that with smaller package and US (not Canadian) manufacturing that price would go done slightly. I hope the move to US does not diminish quality control.

  • Sarah Loves Orijen

Since switching Sarah to Orijen dog food, she gets so excited at mealtime. No more trying to coax her to finish her food. She willing dives in and enjoys her meal. Regional Red is one of her favorite flavors.

  • Great Food. Cleared Skin Problems

    By on

We have a Schnauzer who is not only a finicky eater but has always had dry, itchy skin. We are a big fan of both the Regional Red and 6 Fish food variety. Skin problems have totally cleared up on this food.

  • Real Food. Mostly Meat.

    By on

Just look at the ingredients. Also the fact that there isnt a single supplement added is quite telling. Used to feed raw, but in the end it was too much hassle. This is the only kibble I feel comfortable giving my guy.

  • You get what you pay for

    By on

Although this dog food is hellishly expensive...I mean, come on, at nearly $100/bag, my dogs are eating better than I am! LOL. Anyway, I can overlook the expense now that I've SEEN that I'm getting what I'm paying for. I have 2 small dogs (Dachshund mixes), 1 medium/large dog (GSD) and 2 giant breed dogs (St. Bernards). Not only can I successfully feed this to such a wide variety of breeds/body types, but my one Saint is 9 yrs old this year...an age that is ANCIENT for a giant breed....and he looks plumper, sleeker, healthier and acts more energetic than he has in years! I can't say that I've seen a reduction in the amount of feces that some have noted, but my oldest is no longer having Although this dog food is hellishly expensive...I mean, come on, at nearly $100/bag, my dogs are eating better than I am! I can't say that I've seen a reduction in the amount of feces that some have noted, but my oldest is no longer having the "cow patty" stools he was before. I consider that a plus...especially when cleaning up the yard. Lastly, multiple times during feeding, my youngest Saint would walk away from his previous food & check to see if his mates had something better. This caused a LOT of friction, defensiveness & outright fights. Now that I'm serving Orijen Regional Red, he spends so much time licking the bowl clean that everyone finishes peacefully & quietly! … more

  • Doodledadscores

All three of the Orijen dry foods we purchased are very well received by our rather picky Goldendoodle. She gets raw food at night and Orijen to munch on during the day. We go to great lengths to find high quality kibble as kibble gets a pretty bad rap. This is the best we have tried and we have been through many. Dog Food Advisor gives it high marks as well.
