Biologically Appropriate Commitment

Dogs and cats are built like their ancestors, and that's why all of Orijen's recipes are based on five biologically appropriate principles. They start with a variety of unmatched fresh meat inclusions that are rich in protein. Orijen includes whole prey ratios that naturally provide the nutrients your dog needs. Carbs are limited, but there are plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables and cleansing botanicals.

Orijen Dry Dog Food

Whole Prey Foods

In the wild, dogs consume the whole animal to meet their full dietary needs, so Orijen recipes incorporate three whole prey elements in specific ratios.

  • Meat (70−85%) High meat inclusion means all amino acids are provided in natural form, without any synthetic supplements.
  • Edible Bone (5−10%) Bone, marrow and cartilage provide calcium, phosphorus, glucosamine and chondroitin without any artificial additives.
  • Organ Meat (10−15%) Fresh liver and tripe are richly nourishing sources of vitamins and minerals, including iron, zinc, and vitamins A, B and D.

  • Excellent Dry Food

    By on

I changed my dogs' food recently, because the recipe was changed by the manufacturer for another food I was using. My dogs had gained a little weight over the winter months and the new food being offered by another company was at 45% carbs! I'm a diabetic and know the importance of a low carb diet, rich in protein and veggies. Orijen was quite a bit more expensive, but worth every penny. The carb value is only at around 28% and that is just fine for my 2 healthy dogs. With the spring and summer months ahead and some additional exercise and the new food, they should shed the extra pounds in no time.

All three of the Orijen dry foods we purchased are very well received by our rather picky Goldendoodle. She gets raw food at night and Orijen to munch on during the day. We go to great lengths to find high quality kibble as kibble gets a pretty bad rap. This is the best we have tried and we have been through many. Dog Food Advisor gives it high marks as well.

  • Best food I could get

    By on

My dogs aren't to picky but after a certain while they do seem to get bored or tired of there dog food. Not the case here with Orijen. Having lessened their amount as well they can't get enough they are always excited to eat this brand and type. It smells very good and it keeps their energy levels up.

  • Not so sure

With all the positive reviews I decided to purchase the Orijen Regional Red made in the USA for my two toy Australian Shepherds. I slowly changed out there food BUT my Aussies never accepted the Orijen by itself. So, I'm now feeding them Royal Canin again. I had really hoped they would have grown to love it but for some reason they do not care for the product.

  • not what I was hoping

    By on

This was my first order from Chewy. When I opened my delivered bag the food was "dry" looking and had lots of crumbs in it. When I have bought it in the past from my local pet store, the food has an 'oily, fresh' look to it and it's not in lots of crumbs. I'm really hoping my next bag is better or I will not be able to continue my subscription.

  • WOW! My dog likes this food

    By on

My dog is VERY picky on what he eats. Does not like most human foods including anything with sugar, and most dog foods/treats that have any fillers added. I bought the smaller bag to try since it looked very "meaty" He likes this food and kept going back for nibbles all day. He does not eat it as a meal but just knowing that he will eat it, and has no problems snacking on it through out the day makes it the best dry food he has ever liked. I will buy it again. The ingredients look very healthy, so I know he is getting a healthy diet.

  • Worth the $$$

I've had my rescue dog for exactly one year as of tomorrow. I've struggled to find her food that she will eat on her own without table scraps added. She's allowed other expensive food sit out for over a day and not touch it. I researched other brands and came across Orijen. I introduced it to her as a treat. Once I put a scoop down on her plate she couldn't get enough of it. I'm in my second large bag and I no longer worry about food sitting out or having to add table scraps which was making her over weight. I'm really satisfied with this brand. I'm also satisfied with Chewy's almost next-day delivery!!! My dog Lucifer is 74% Pitbull Terrier and 26% Golden Retriever

I have a 20 month old show dog (Doberman Pinscher) that is a very picky eater,I tried several others high end brands in the past with not much success, he will eat the food 5-7 days then suddenly he stops eating ,I switched him to Orijen Regional Red Meat and the change has been incredible,as soon as he sees the plate he starts eating, no hesitation, his plate is empty in less than 5 minutes, excellent food!!!

  • You CANNOT get ANY better!!

This is by far the best quality dog food you can purchase. Let me Tell you why. It's grain, corn, wheat , soy, tapioca , potato, sweet potato, and rice free. Potatoes and rice can cause yeast issues and they leave them out. Very hard to find in other brands. They have their own grass fed, free-range, local farners. It's antibiotic, hormone and GMO free. The fish are wild caught or responsibly farmed. The farmers sell exclusively to them with the exception of a few that sell to high end restaurants. Yes, the meat is human grade! They never outsource, meaning they have their own facility to make the food and do not let anyone else make the food. Big reason why many companies have recalls This is by far the best quality dog food you can purchase. Let me Tell you why. They never outsource, meaning they have their own facility to make the food and do not let anyone else make the food. Big reason why many companies have recalls. In addition, they test and hold every batch to prevent recalls! They've never had a recall! All the meat arrives within several days of harvest and 2/3 is put directly into the food. The other 1/3 is flash frozen , different from regular freezing. This preserves as many nutrients as possible. They use whole prey ratios . Meat, ORGAN, CARTILAGE , AND BONE. Just like in the wild. The carbs they use are kept to a minimum and are low on the glycemic index. They burn slow for lasting energy. Our 60 pound Doberman Pinscher eats only 2.75 cups of Orijen per day. She is VERY active too. A little goes a long way. They have left out the poor quality fillers. Lastly they use many botanicals like rosehips and sarsaparilla root...which all have their purposes from detoxifying the body to strengthening the immune system. Topped off with probioitics at the end! Our pup looks like an oil slick in the distance, and by FAR the shiniest Doberman we have seen ..no yeast issues, nothing. Her health is at its peak! Take a look at the attached photos. She has aren't it since 8.5 weeks old! Will never feed anything else, and working at a specialty food store, I saw many people who say the food completely turned their dog's health around. It really is worth the money and you truly know you are putting the absolute BEST in your dog! … more

  • My Westie loves this!

    By on Top 500 Contributor

I am super impressed with the ingredients in this kibble. My Westie has an allergy to chicken (it upsets his tummy) and it's hard finding a food without some kind of chicken in it. He LOVES the taste of this. My only tiny little complaint is that the kibble is big. He's an 18-pound dog, but it doesn't seem to bother him eating a larger kibble size. Since I made the switch his poop is better formed and doesn't smell as bad. I think Origen will be his brand of food for a long time!
