Biologically Appropriate Commitment

Dogs and cats are built like their ancestors, and that's why all of Orijen's recipes are based on five biologically appropriate principles. They start with a variety of unmatched fresh meat inclusions that are rich in protein. Orijen includes whole prey ratios that naturally provide the nutrients your dog needs. Carbs are limited, but there are plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables and cleansing botanicals.

Orijen Dry Dog Food

Whole Prey Foods

In the wild, dogs consume the whole animal to meet their full dietary needs, so Orijen recipes incorporate three whole prey elements in specific ratios.

  • Meat (70−85%) High meat inclusion means all amino acids are provided in natural form, without any synthetic supplements.
  • Edible Bone (5−10%) Bone, marrow and cartilage provide calcium, phosphorus, glucosamine and chondroitin without any artificial additives.
  • Organ Meat (10−15%) Fresh liver and tripe are richly nourishing sources of vitamins and minerals, including iron, zinc, and vitamins A, B and D.

Orijen believes you have a right to know where the ingredients in your dog's food come from. From nest-laid eggs and wild northern pike to juicy orchard-grown apples and crisp garden greens, each ingredient is sourced from local producers they know and trust.

  • Have no hesitations - this food is the best

I finally faced the fact that my 10-yr mixed breed was ready for a senior food with some joint support that was more easily digestible. I was concerned that because she was still active, a traditional low-cal senior food might leave her skinny. I chatted with a chewy agent, told him my concerns, and he recommended Orijen Senior. I did a lot of research on other sites and compared the nutrition and ingredient profiles to other top brands. The chewy agent was right - this is the best brand. This food is so palatable that she eats more consistently than she ever has in her life. The moisture in the kibble also seems to be easier for her to eat as she is missing a few teeth. Her stool is a lot more solid than it was before, indicating to me that her digestion is more efficiency getting the good stuff into her body. All in all, I am looking forward for Orijen to release the Fit and Trim variety to Chewy so that we can put our two non-senior (and pudge-prone) dogs onto the same brand. You should have no hesitation in feeding your dog this food. … more

  • About as good as it gets, naturally ...

... but a bit costly! There is no doubt that this is a quality feed and most owners will probably only consider it, following some kind of quality complaint from another brand or following marketing-trends implying that only grain-free feed could be considered for your dog. Over forty years, I have had eight gundogs prior to the couple I have now and all were formerly fed on various grain-based diets of dried feed of the day ... and all did well on whatever they ate! I think the real issue surrounding dog-health has more to do with physical exercise (or distinct lack thereof!) than the feed they take but there may be a case for considering better feedstuffs as dogs age. This is where perhaps Orijen comes into its own. The pellet is moist and remains so as long as the bag-top is turned-over after first opening. Both dogs took to the feed without hesitation and shunned what they had been eating the day before arrival! Stools are firm and because little goes in, very little comes out! So far so good. … more

  • This food changed my dogs life!

We have always researched and fed our dog foods with high quality ingredients, but over time we started to suspect maybe she was starting to develop a sensitivity to the brand she had been on for years. Our dog slowly had a hard time sleeping at night and would wake us up 1-4 times every night to go to the bathroom. She also started getting diarrhea at times, and her bowel movements were more unregular than usual. So when other problems were ruled out by the vet we thought maybe she just needed a change in her diet. Let me tell you, within 3 days of her being on this food, she started sleeping much better! Now it is only on a rare occasion she will ever get up to go to the bathroom in the middle We have always researched and fed our dog foods with high quality ingredients, but over time we started to suspect maybe she was starting to develop a sensitivity to the brand she had been on for years. Her bowel movements are much more regular, and even though we thought it wasn't possible, her coat is even shinier than it was before and she has always had a super shiny coat. I realize all dogs can react differently to even the best of foods, but I can only tell you in our case this food has been the best change ever for her! I only hope this food continues to agree with her tummy in the long run! … more

  • Wow! Picky eater loves it.

It smells awful, but my dogs love it! My fur baby Gizmo has always had a delicate tummy and quit eating breakfast about a year ago. She's almost 12 and suffering from arthritis. She's only been on it for two weeks, but her tummy is better and she gobbles it up for breakfast. Waiting to see if it helps her joints, but the noticeable difference already makes it worth the price.

  • Review of Orijen

    By on

Excellent, high grade quality dog food. I mix the Senior formula with the regular formula to keep my dog's weight in check. It seems that she never feels deprived and enjoys mealtime. I mix her medication in with the food and everything is accepted well. I recommend this product highly. Expensive but worth it.

My girl loves this food. She would never eat dry food before, now that I found this she it's it without wanting anything else. I'm truly impressed with this brand of food. I only wish it was a little less expensive, but I guess we do what we have to! Thanks Chewy for the fast delivery!!

  • Origin dog food

I've been a happy Chewy customer for quite some time. They are Fantastic, not just at their speedy delivery, but their customer service is number 1. I needed to find a low fat but high quality dog food for my two aging westies. Of course Chewy was happy to give me recommendations. So far the dogs like the Orijen and I know its a great balanced diet for them. My son uses the puppy Orijen and swears by it so I didn't hesitate to try it.

  • My dog loves it and thrives

    By on

We initially changed to Orijen as our shiba thrives on fish based food more than any other ingredients. And back then orijen was one of the best dog food with high quality ingredient with fish. Once she became a senior we switched her to this brand and she still thrives and acts like a puppy. Shiny coat, healthy teeth and full of energy for a 13 old lady!

  • Lovin' my Chow

    By on

My old Buddy (13yrs) was becoming more and more sensitive to standard dog fare. Even with Science Diet and other high end dog foods his pancreatitis became worse. With my spouse being a RD, LDN she reversed her people skill to dog skill and reviewed ingredients along comes Orijen. Granted, the price of this food is enough to make your head spin, but you get what you pay for! My dog's overall quality of life has improved 100%! He loves this food. A recommendation for sure for your senior dog with digestive issues!

  • Pleasantly surprised

One of my 15 year old terriers has Cushing's and Valley Fever so I switched to Orijen to see if that would make a difference in his health, he'd been listless for a while. I've never seen them so excited over kibble, I usually have to mix wet food in to entice them, but now I scatter some on the floor and they go on a treasure hunt while I get their breakfast.
