Might work for some dogs but not mine

    By on

I have a big chocolate lab with black nails and I always worry about "quicking" him when trimming his nails. I heard about the nail grinders and decided to try one. This grinder might work well for some dogs but it did nothing but get my dog fired up! He will not hold still for a minute for me to grind his nails. The noise scared him to death! He is great about taking meds or a bath but there is no way he will let me grind his nails. :(

    Weak Motor.

    By on

Would stop when put against my dog's nails. If I held it gently, it would barely do anything. It might be fine for cats, but it wasn't strong enough to sand down my dog's nails. Would stop completely, them I'd have to turn it off and on again. I was pretty disappointed because my dog hates the clippers.

    Not whisper quiet

    By on

Definitely not whisper quiet.. my fur baby wants no part of it. I eased into using it by getting her use to the sound and feel of it on her paws, but was still a no go.. but will keep trying.. in the meantime, back to the nail clippers..

    It’s alright

    By on

Not much power so it takes a bit for each nail. I think if you’re using it just to maintain a shape it would be fine. Doesn’t seem like it’s meant to reduce nail length

    Works, but not strong

    By on

I will say it works with some dogs nails, but only if their soft, which a lot are not. So yes it works, but not for many dogs. I do give props for the cover though

    Doesnt work

    By on

Ordered this with high hopes and it broke with the first contact of my dogs nail. Just putting any pressure on the trimmer stopped it completely and my dog is only 20lbs.

    Gentle paws

    By on

Only must work on a small pet. it broke the first use on my Dals nails. I threw it away and bought a Black and Decker Grinder which works much better. This is not for strong dogs nails.

    Gentle paws

    By on

I just received my gentle paws a few weeks ago. The other day it was time to trim the kids nails again. Buddy is afraid of his own shadow was great with it. Precious is my little Maltese, she is so prissy just laid there and let me trim away. Highly recommend!!

    Oster Nail grinder

This grinder is very quiet, which is nice. It does not scare our dog when running. I like that it takes batteries instead of being rechargeable, our last one didn't last long because of that fact. I can only give it a four star rating because the grinding wheel cover sits just a little too far from the wheel. Our dog is a small breed and her nails are not very long, and quite curved so it does not allow the nail to enter far enough to get the nails down to the proper length. And getting to her dew claws is almost impossible. If the grinding wheel was just slightly larger in diameter, it would be perfect. Perhaps supplying a larger wheel set would a thought. Or maybe a slightly smaller (diameter) guard would take care of that. As is, it's seems like it is well made and hopefully will last for years. For the price, it can't be beat. My husband is looking for another grinding wheel set-up to see if this remedies it's only fault. … more
