    Oster Nail grinder

This grinder is very quiet, which is nice. It does not scare our dog when running. I like that it takes batteries instead of being rechargeable, our last one didn't last long because of that fact. I can only give it a four star rating because the grinding wheel cover sits just a little too far from the wheel. Our dog is a small breed and her nails are not very long, and quite curved so it does not allow the nail to enter far enough to get the nails down to the proper length. And getting to her dew claws is almost impossible. If the grinding wheel was just slightly larger in diameter, it would be perfect. Perhaps supplying a larger wheel set would a thought. Or maybe a slightly smaller (diameter) guard would take care of that. As is, it's seems like it is well made and hopefully will last for years. For the price, it can't be beat. My husband is looking for another grinding wheel set-up to see if this remedies it's only fault. … more

    Gengle Paws

    By on Top 500 Contributor

I used to take my German Shepherd to PetsMart for nail trimming so I thought the Gentle Paws would be better for both of us. She was always very good with getting her nails trimmed but lately she’s deathly afraid of the groomers or anyone touching her paws. It really upsets me that the groomers have treated my poor innocent dog to the extent they have. It’s going to be an uphill battle until she feels comfortable with the Gentle Paws but well worth every second. I’ll slowly introduce her but thumbs down to groomers who think nail cutting is no big deal even when the dog yelps in pain. I wonder how they’d feel if their fingers were pinched or cut during their manicures. Go with the Dremel Nail Grinder

    By on

First off it was a blessing when this came out. There where not any other products like it. The pluses are the nail guard it actually helps. The downfalls are the batteries don’t last, doesn’t have enough power and in the end won’t last. The atxhments are pretty easy to use and if I remember correctly it can be a bit loud. Quick conclusion, don’t. Spend the extra money and get the Dremel version. You’ll thank me later.

    Glad I got it!

I've been afraid to trim my dog's nails not wanting to hurt him. The clippers I had purchased from a farm store seemed dull and lacked power. So I tried the Nail Grinder and was very pleased. The grinder does seem to jump a bit at certain angles but it definitely grinds the nails down. I'm no longer afraid to tackle my dogs nails! Only 4 stars because the plastic cover does not come off very easily.

    Don’t like it

    By on

Tried using it on my German Shepherd and it doesn’t have enough power, kept cutting off and stopping.. so I tried it on my chihuahua and did the same thing.. definitely don’t recommend this item and I’m going to return it to the store for a refund..

    Good but..

The quality is great, but neither of my dogs will let me use it after rotating wheel contacted their nail. It's probably the vibration they feel. I plan to work with it yet. If your pets are very laid back this will work.

    Spend more to get more

    By on

Spend the money on a high quality nail grinder. This one fell apart before I finished one paw. The screw came out of the grinding band, the collet loosens over and over. Had to stop and fix numerous times. Waste of time and cheaply made. You get what you pay for!!!!

Gentle Paws Premium Dog & Cat Nail Grinder

Excellent tool. A bit more alarming to your pet because of the grinder noise, but works excellent. And for everything else. It's a nice tool to have and worth the investment.

Broke in less than 5 minutes

    By on

I have been filing dog nails for a long time. We bought this after our Peticure that we have been having for years finally gave out. I used this for less than 5 mi utes on our mini dachshund and it stopped working. It wouldn’t come back on. The plastic cover at the top had cracked. I guess the drum sander was loose?? Even if it hadn’t broken in the first use, the drum sander is so far inside the plastic shield that I couldn’t really trim a lot anyway. I’ll just go back to using a dremmel. I wish it had work out because I like the protector shield on our peticure. It didn’t let all of the nail dust fly everywhere.
