FAQ

How do I clean my blade?

A brush was included with your clipper. If you no longer have the brush, a toothbrush can be used to brush the hair out from between the teeth of the blade. Oster® Kool Lube or Oster® Blade Wash may also be used. Please note that even though these do contain oil, they are not sufficient for keeping your blade oiled. Blades should be oiled often during use.

How do I keep my blades from getting dull?

The best way to keep blades from getting dull are to ensure the blades are cleaned, oiled, and stored properly. Dirt and grit from hair will cause blades to become dull quickly so always make sure the hair or fur being cut is clean.

How do I know if my blade needs sharpening?

If the blades start to pull the hair or you have to make several strokes to get the hair cut, it may be time to sharpen your blades.

How often can my blades be sharpened?

Most blades can have several sharpenings. Some factors in determining how many times a blade can be sharpened include frequency of use and how well the blade is maintained.

How should I oil my clipper or trimmer blades?

To oil your blades, turn the clipper or trimmer on, put a drop of on each end of the blade and one in the center (across the cutting surface - the teeth). It is not necessary to take the blade apart to oil it. For professional use and for best results, blades should be oiled often during the day.

How should I store my blade?

Before storing your blade it should be cleaned well. A few drops of oil should be placed on the surface teeth and between the sliding surfaces, and then turn the clipper or trimmer on for a few seconds. Blades should be stored in a place protected from high humidity and moisture to prevent rust. It is best to use the blade protector or to wrap the blades before placing the clipper inside a drawer with other implements.

What should I do if my blade is rusted?

During normal professional sharpening, blades are checked for rust. Generally, rust can be removed by a wire wheel. If a blade is pitted with rust, it may not be able to be removed. Prevent rusting by storing blades in dry place and keeping them well oiled.

    Worth the value

By Junior on Nov 5, 2020

I have an old Oster Golden A5. Original blade finally gave out after all these years. Clippers are in mint condition. Rather then spend $200+ on a new clipper, ordered the blade hoping it was an exact fit, which it was and the clippers are working like they were just taken out of the box. I have multiple dogs with different types of fur, so as a good investment, I plan on ordering more in different sizes.

    Can't keep them sharp.

By Dull on Jun 22, 2020

I have purchased 2 new sets of blades. 1 each time that I give my pet a hair cut. I bath my dog prior to trimming. I have tried the oater blade wash but can't seem to keep a sharp edge.

more like a shave than 1/4”

By Zoey on Apr 2, 2020

This blade is very effective and really does well with thick poodle hair, but it cut WAY shorter than the expected 1/4” hair I was hoping for. My poor dog looked naked for a couple weeks after I used this blade.

    Very good blade

By RobF on Aug 20, 2017

First I'll tell you that I have two Newfoundland's. Once a year I give them a hair cut. They have an impenetrable coat. This blade went through their coat like a hot knife through butter! It left them with a 1/2" of hair. Perfect for the dog days of summer. #chewyisawesome

If You have a Doodle, you need this.

By Zach on Jul 26, 2017

This is the only blade that will work on my doodle. Never get another guard. Just pony up and by this blade. You won't regret it. Its the perfect length, takes 1/4 the time as a guard that constantly gets clogged, and you won't miss spots.
