Description

Take kitty litter management to the next eco-friendly level with the OurPets Switchgrass & Biochar Natural Cat Litter. This all-natural litter is made of switchgrass, a natural North-American-grown plant that’s cultivated with no pesticides or chemical sprays, so it’s chemical-free and safe for the whole family. It also contains BioChar, a specially produced activated carbon that’s made to be more absorbent so it traps urine and odors more effectively. The biodegradable, non-toxic formula has a strong clumping action and a special coating that makes it less dusty and messy, plus it’s proudly made in the USA.

Key Benefits
  • All natural litter with superior odor and moisture absorption with pesticide-free, North-American-grown switchgrass.
  • Includes BioChar, a specially produced activated carbon to trap and hold water and odors.
  • Strong clumping action and less dusty and messy thanks to specially coated particles.
  • Contains no pesticides, pollutants, chemicals, or inhalable toxins so it’s safe for pets and people.
  • Biodegradable formula is proudly made in the USA and works with any litter box.
Precautions

Always wash your hands thoroughly after handling used cat litter, as cat feces may contain Toxoplasma gondii—a parasite that can cause toxoplasmosis. Pregnant or nursing women, as well as children and anyone with a weakened immune system, should avoid handling used cat litter. Always handle litter in a ventilated area to avoid inhalation. Keep contents and packaging out of reach of children and pets. Seek medical help in case of accidental ingestion.

Love the grass. Hate the coal.

    By on

We were really excited about this grass litter imagining that kitties go out to do their business in the grass. But really, in the outdoors, kitties prefer loose soil or sand or loam. The grass smells great, but we became a little concerned over the added carbon, which seems to form a microfilm over everything in the bathromm where the litter box resides. In addition, the litter is so dark you can't tell the stool from the urine clumps. Not good for those of us who compost urine clumps - you don't want stool in the compost bin.

    Will not repurchase

I originally bought one of these and one of the smartcat grass litter and mixed half and half. It absorbs odors very well and clumps fair. Recently, I purchased two bags of this and used it exclusively. I was very surprised by the amount of dust given off by this brand. Both bags give off plumes of charcoal dust when pouring in and while cleaning. One of my cats has respiratory issues and that is the main reason I switched to grass litter after trying many other alternatives to clay. If I am blowing out black snot after cleaning this, I can't imagine it being good for her. I now use a face mask and exhaust fan while cleaning the boxes but I must recommend looking to other grass litters, I have I originally bought one of these and one of the smartcat grass litter and mixed half and half. love love love

    By on

Absolutely love it! We have a multi cat household and this controls the odor waaay better than any other cat litter we have tried thus far. It does track a little bit, but I find that the cats don't throw it out of the litter box when they dig, unlike the clay cat litter we had them on previously. We've been using it for over a few months now and we are extremely pleased with the results.

    So-So, I’ve seen better

    By on

I gave this a try to see how it would do. It smells nice and clumps well, but it’s really dusty compared to my old litter. Every time I scoop, a huge plume of dust rises from the box. Dust is coating the walls of the litter box. My old litter does none of that and is much less dusty than this stuff. This stuff is as dusty as clay litter. I don’t think my cats really like this either since they are rarely using the box that contains this litter. I’ll be going back to my old brand.

    The only litter I use

    By on

My only complaint about this litter is I can't get it in a store. I switched to this litter from a walnut litter that caused one of my cats to have a severe skin reaction. The cats love it. I don't find it any dustier than clay litters. It has no artificial aroma(perfumes offend my senses and my cats don't like them either). I find that it clumps extremely well.

    Yes there is some dust

    By on

We did find this litter to be very dusty, and a very fine particle dust that you normally get with charcoal. But the odor control is so great we wanted to use this litter. Our final solution that works for our cattery of 8 cats is using 2 40lb bags of unscented Frisco litter and one bag of this litter blended together (Dr. Elsey's litter works to). The Frisco clay litter improves the clumping and the biochar improves smell control and the switch grass encourages litter box usage. I recommend this litter but not for use by itself.

    better than clay

    By on Top 1000 Contributor

Clumps well. Very little dust. No weird smell. Didn't notice much if any tracking and lighter than clay, I feel that this is much better and safer for a cat than clay or corn, Give it a try .

    Smells great

    By on

Although this litter does not clump very well on its own, I love to mix it with equal parts Smart cat grass litter. This combination helps form stronger clumps, and the biochar keeps odors down and leaves behind a light, natural scent. My kitties love it!

Natural, clumping, no odor except botanical

    By on

Nice alternative for non clay litter. Clumps well, lightweight clumps. My cats adapted easily with small amounts added over a week. Tracks somewhat, probably more than clay. My 2 senior cats are very happy with it, and I think we all like that it smells more like outdoors. I think its nice for formerly indoor-outdoor cats.

    Really good

    By on

Love it. Very light and soft, my cats seem to really like it. It doesn’t seem to track any worse than any other litter. Not dusty. It’s naturally grown switchgrass and not mined like clay so a no brainer to me.
