will a small water bottle fit into the large pack?
Answer by ChewyJul 19, 2017
The pack fits a small water bottle, port-a-bowl, and bag of kibble as well as a ball or leash.

I live in Texas- will my dog overheat faster if he's wearing this while we hike? Does it help to keep animals cool while active?
Answer by ChewySep 17, 2020
Outward Hound's DayPak is made with breathable mesh to ensure a proper fit but it doesn't feature any cooling mechanisms. Make sure to pack water to avoid overheating.

Are the packs removable?? So you can just use the harness. My 9 month pup is a chewer and I'm worried He'll chew the packs
Answer by ChewyApr 04, 2018
The side packs are not removable.

I hike with my husky/lab mix and can't keep her out of water. How does this pack do when submerged?
Answer by ChewyDec 13, 2017
This DayPak has water resistant fabric that is perfect for outdoor adventures and easy to clean.

Disappointed with Outward Hound Customer Service

This Doggie DayPak is exactly what I was looking for, to carry two water bottles on our long walks, however, I could not figure out how to get the straps to hold adjustment. I contacted Outward Hound customer service for assistance and the best they had to offer was telling me to return the item, inconveniencing me and Chewy. Eventually I realized I could use the hook and loop closures and wrap the excess strap.

Ripped after 3 uses

It helped with leash training, but one of the pockets ripped after 3 uses. Not good quality or durable.

perfect for my needs

I have a 1 yr old with lots of energy and filled this pack with treats , poop bags and a few other things to see if it will help slow her down a little and challenge the energy

This is a great value!

Well made and looks comfortable. We are still letting her carry it empty to get used to it, but she doesn't mind so far. Much lower in price than similar products we have looked at.

So far so good.

I've taken my dog (33 lbs) out for a few long walks so far. She tolerates the pack well (3 lb. load) and when it's adjusted well and the weight is equalized in the two bags, the pack rarely shifts. I'm taking off one point because it comes with no instructions, because it has no loops or cords on which to tie additional items, like her sleeping bag, and because I haven't tested it out thoroughly yet. To put the pack on, I slip her head through the neck loop and rest the pack on her back, then pull her right paw up and through another loop, then clip the strap that goes under her belly to the other side of the pack, then do the same for the chest strap, then tighten straps so that there's almost no slack, leaving just enough room for her chest to expand while she breathes, but no more. I hope that makes sense and that it helps.

Backpacking Pup

I’m happy with my purchase of this item. The size was correct for my dog and it works well for our needs. I think it’s a good buy for the price. Not sure how it would be for a rugged hiker but works for leisurely walking nicely. Easy to get on and off and figure out, sometimes harnesses and backpacks are complicated but not the case with this one.

Great deal

My dog is still getting used to wearing this, but the backpack is great quality! The only thing I think I would change is where the leash hooks on because it’s lower on her back it causes the backpack to shift to one side sometimes. My dog is young though and moves a lot during walks. Still a great backpack and I will be continuing to use it!

Backpack itself is good

Love the backpack! It has way more pockets than I was expecting, and even after stuffing it, it doesnt look bulky. My dog doesnt mind it at all and everyone thinks she looks cute with it! Unfortunately, however, within 2 days of using it the D-ring completely snapped. Thankfully I was able to work around this quickly, but I definitely have to invest in a heavier duty ring to attach to it now

Be careful of sizing information

My dog is 52 lbs., and his girth is 28 inches, which is on the lowest side of large, so I got large. The DayPak is a little too large for him, but the info says, "If your pet measures between two sizes, we advise ordering the larger of the two." Other than that, it's a great buy." Rather than going through the hassle of returning it, I'll just fix it myself with some super-strong thread and big needle.

Cute Backpack

It fits my dog perfectly. She seem comfortable while wearing it hiking/camping too. I love that it is a brighter color so it is easy to see her. It has been holding up and has to rips in it.
