We have 2 dogs, a Border Collie and a Mini American Shepherd. Both of them would inhale their food. They are on a raw food diet and it's soft and apparently easy to swallow quickly. They would literally finish their meal in under a minute. Sometimes they would vomit within minutes of finishing. But those days are behind us! We purchased a smaller slow feeder for our little dog and she took to it so well, we got a larger one for our other dog. Both dogs adapted quickly and seem to enjoy eating out of the new bowls. They still eat fast, having learned how to maneuver their tongues around the bowl, but it is definitely an improvement. Highly recommend.
Love shopping with Chewy!

Product is very well made and good price point. I did not realize how big it is so I may not use it for our furbaby. It seems to be a little too deep and she gets a little frustrated. (No fault of the product). Will continue letting her try it; if it doesn't work out, I'll either donate it or find a friend who may have a furbaby for whom it may work out!
Our Beagle's Snout is Too Large
on Feb 16, 2020
We got multiple slow feeder bowls for our pack of 3 beagles and 1 JRT because they are all monsters at feeding time, inhaling their food and then trying to steal from each other. These bowls have made dinner time WAY more manageable and far calmer. We got 4 different slow feeder bowls (different colors as well as different puzzle types), and we tested and distributed them according to what worked best for each dog. Unfortunately, this one is not best for any of them. Our smallest beagle, a little 12-pounder, got stuck with this one and he struggles because his little snout is too wide. Unfortunately for him, that was the case with all the other bowls as well.

One caution if you are going with the "small" size bowls--they are not small in the amount of surface area they take up; they are small in regard to the walls that divide the food. So if you have a wide-snooted dog, you might want to go up a size. Our little buddy would probably do better with a M or L bowl of this type but this is what he's stuck with and to his credit, he's a trooper and he's making it work. :)… more
Baby Basset Loves It
on Mar 3, 2020
Im so grateful for this feeder! My 4 month old Basset Hound was inhaling his food. This managed to slow to him down significantly. He eats one cup of food three times a day and the one cup serving fit nicely. I did purchase the mini size and I’m glad that I did. I feel that the regular size wouldn’t have slowed him down enough.
Great way to slow a fast eater

This bowl is perfect for my 90 lb lab who swallows his food in one big gulp or so it seems. It takes him time work around the bowl and get all of the food out and he seems to like the challenge. I wouldn't recommend this for short snout breeds, like my Boxer, but for the Lab it works exactly as promised. The material is high quality and sturdy, I am very happy with this purchase.

He now eats in circles. Gets a little workout while eating. It has doubled the time it takes him to eat, which is still fast but he has not vomited his food since using. I think its more of s 2 cup bowl not 4. Also we use smaller kibble bits, I dont think larger bits would work.
lab that eats too fast.

My lab inhales her 1.25 cup of food in less than 30 seconds with a normal bowl. This is the fourth slow feeder I've tried, and I'll keep looking for one that will work. She has great difficulty in getting her snout in the tracks, and her lips/teeth smack hard into the tracks. I always have to tip the bowl over at the end to get the kibble out. She takes a few minutes now to eat, but she still isn't chewing her food.
Slow Down Game Time
on Mar 5, 2020
Finn, our yellow lab, loves to eat but usually gets so excited his bowl upon filling is devoured in 2 minutes flat. This is concerning with stomach issues and can hurt older dogs. This isn't an issue anymore. Now dinner time is game time and he is through and will go a good 15-20 minutes to get every last bite. Love this bowl!
Slows my hound down considerably...

Slows my hound dog down. Without a slow feed dish he’d eat his 2 1/2 cups 2x a day in about 30 seconds. This takes him 3-4 minutes now. Only issue and it’s probably not the dish just the ravenous dog but bits of plastic scrape off with his teeth. Fortunately he shows no signs of allergies to the material so I’ll keep it and buy a new one when it gets too worn. If your dog is sensitive to plastic than I’d skip this option. In my case its better than him banging his teeth against a slow feeder that is made of a harder material.

This is the best money deal we have bought in a long time. Our Portuguese Water Dog ate way too fast and this has slowed him down perfectly. It’s wide base keeps him from flipping it over easily, but it is so wide it takes up a little more room when traveling
