I was wondering which color bowl you would recommend as a water bowl? I just adopted/rescued a 2 year old beagle and my vet recommended that I buy her a puzzle bowl to slow down her eating time. I've decided on the mini teal bowl for food but am not sure which would be best for water. Help!
Answer by ChewyJan 17, 2018
With hydration being very important, I would recommend the bigger Regular size Bowl to make sure that there is plenty of water available to your pet.

Do these work for cats?
Answer by ChewyMay 10, 2018
This bowl can also be used by cats.

What is the diameters of this bowl?
Answer by ChewyApr 24, 2018
The Regular size measures 12.75 inches long x 11 inches wide x 2.88 inches high and has a 4 cup capacity. The Mini size measures 9.5 inches long x 8 inches wide x 2.65 inches high and has a 2 cup capacity.

I feed my dog Royal Canin German Shepherd Adult dry dog food which has pretty large kibble pieces. Will they fit between the crevices of this slow feeder or will they sit on top or get stuck? How much room is there between each crevice?
Answer by ChewySep 17, 2020
The kibble of the Royal Canin German Shepherd Adult Dry Dog Food will fit in this interactive feeder. Check out the photo below to get an idea of how large the grooves of this bowl are.

Makes a huge difference

I recently adopted a Great Pyrenees "puppy" from a local crowded shelter. He would gobble his food down in seconds once I put his food down so I wanted to try this. It definitely slows down his eating, which is a relief. I wouldn't really say that the dish is non-skid but he's a big dog so the non-skid probably works better on smaller dogs. The dish is easy to clean and there isn't a problem of his food getting stuck. Very satisfied.

No complaints, does what it’s supposed to

At first I wasn’t sure if it was slowing her down any but once I had to put it in the dishwasher and use another bowl, I immediately noticed how quickly she finished. So yes, for my long nosed dog, it still slows her down a bit. It’s difficult to get kibble in all of the crevices every time with a measuring cup so I often have to shake it some. Other than that, it does what it should and is good for the price!

Love this feeder!

I got this feeder because of my American Bully would swallow his meal in 10 seconds. I was worried about it being too small for him but it fits 3 cups of feed!!! It’s not small for his big ole mouth either. This bowl has really slowed down! Would recommend and buy this bowl again!

Love this bowl!

Our golden did not really eat too fast previously, but this bowl gives her a little something to do and helps her mind to grow. She also seems to burp less. The only drawback is that I only ordered one so it needs to be washed after each feeding. It can be cleaned on the top layer of the dishwasher, without high heat, but I do not run it enough to keep from having to wash it by hand. Great puzzle bowl, just need to order another.

the slow bowl

My dog eats way too fast so I thought this would be the answer. I think over time it will work, as for now my dog doesn't want to eat from the bowl, he only picks at his food but I'm hoping he gets past this and starts eating all his food from the bowl.

dogs eat much slower

We have 2 large dogs. These bowls force them to eat much slower. We feed them only dry food and soak in broth or water before they eat. It's a bit difficult to stir up the food with the liquid in these bowls, but in the end it's worth it. Now takes them twice as long to eat. Our older dog used to aspirate food from eating too quickly. Much better now. Also love that they are dishwasher safe

Skeptical at first

We have a Norfolk Terrier pup that can inhale food. I was a touch skeptical at first because of the size of the bowl 2 cups. He gets 1/2 cup twice a day. However it is great. It takes him long enough to eat that the other dog can finish her food without his assistance. Works well.

Doesn't slow them down.

Got it for my heeler who apparently doesn't seem to believe in chewing food. This was the 4th slowfeeder I've purchased but also the worst one. She learns the patterns quickly so I have to mix them up to slow her down. She gets 1 and 1/3 cup so I knew it would be a little more full but the kibble was overflowing the bowl. She has normal kibble size so it's not that. It also didn't slow her down one bit. Ate it faster then she would have if I had just put the kibble on the floor. Don't know if it's the size or design but I don't recommend it. It might be okay for the super tiny kibble or something but for the chance I wouldn't risk it.

Does the trick!

I purchased this bowl to slow mealtimes for my 7 month old chocolate lab. The first time he tried it, he started chewing the bowl and tipped it over with his paws. The next time, I taught him not to bite the bowl or use his feet. Since then, he has been eating much slower and enjoys the challenge of it. I also put the bowl on a rubber backed rug to stop it from sliding. It is easy to clean by running hot soapy water on it. Will be purchasing the orange one next as I just found out the bowls are ranked for different challenges levels with orange the most difficult. Once you train your dog on how to use it properly, it works like a charm.

Operating capacity is lower than listed

The bowl itself is well made and a good product. However when it says the bowl is for up to two cups it means that two cups can technically fit in the bowl not that it will slow feed the two cups. Two cups will fill the bowl so much the dog can easily access the food and it does not slow them down until they are halfway done. Definitely go bigger if you feed your dog any more than 1.25-1.5 cups.
