About Outward Hound Puzzle Toys for Dogs

Healthy Playtime Problem Solving

Did you know that 15 minutes of mental exercise can have a similar effect on your dog’s emotional well-being as 30 minutes of physical exercise? Dogs love to explore and problem solve and will use their noses and paws as tools. Each Nina Ottoson puzzle toy game is designed with your dog’s natural behaviors, senses and safety in mind.

Reduce Unwanted Behaviors

Setting your dog to work on a puzzle or game helps focus his attention and energy. This mental redirection can help reduce boredom, anxiety and destructive behaviors, too. Try using puzzle toys to distract your dog from fireworks, thunderstorms and other stressful situations.

Four Levels of Play

All dogs are different. That’s why each treat puzzle toy was designed with a different level of difficulty—to please dogs of all skill levels, whether they are beginners or puzzle-solving pros. Start by choosing a level that suits your pup’s skill set and level up as he learns!

Level 1

Perfect for beginners, these puzzles help gain interest and prepare dogs for puzzles to come.

Level 2

Features added obstacles, requiring your dog to combine actions to retrieve each tasty reward.

Level 3

These advanced puzzles challenge your dog to complete several steps in order to reach the hidden treats.

Level 4

This is the hardest level and requires multiple steps and problem-solving skills to solve!

For Bonding and Training

Nina Ottosson puzzle games are a great way to build your relationship with a newly adopted dog or help a shy dog come out of his shell. You can also use puzzles to help train your dog and practice basic commands like “sit” and “stay”.

    So much fun

By Flash on Jan 21, 2022

Our Basset Hound LOVES treats and this makes him work for them. It's simple enough that any dog can figure it out. It took him 1 time and as soon as he figured out where the treats were, now he can get them out in no time, and it's so much fun for the dog parents to watch too!

    Christmas present

By Puppy on Dec 14, 2021

Christmas - haven't used yet - I'm looking forward to trying it. My aggressive dog is supposed to use interactive toys. I hope it works. If it doesn't work for him, I hope my golden 9 month old isn't too smart for it! LOL. And that's all I have to say right now - trying to get the 50 characters long icon to go away. It won't go away. Hard to leave a long review when you haven't used the product yet.

    Decent distraction

By Vick on Jan 13, 2022

Keeps the pup entertained for like 5 minutes. He figured it out way to quickly !! but still a nice distraction and mental activity for him

    Nice but Too easy

By Trecav on Dec 28, 2021

I thought my 12 week old puppy would have difficulty with this but he solved it in under 5 minutes. I timed him today and it was fine in 1:15. So too easy for him

    Much simpler than I expected

By Cassandra on Oct 7, 2021

It’s okay I guess. My Labrador puppy figured it out in about 2 seconds and it takes her just as long to find every single treat. The levers slide open so easily that some of them open up just in the movement it takes to put it on the floor. Good idea, but little to no real mental stimulation here.

    No challenge

By Piper on Jan 3, 2022

This puzzle is way too easy. No challenge; the parts move just by gently touching them.

    Good for puppies

By Puzzletoy on Oct 3, 2021

We have had several puzzle toys for our dogs. This one is more on the easier side. It seems well made and they enjoyed it but I can’t make it harder. They already have it figured out.

Not a complete waste of money

By Taylor on Aug 22, 2021

I have a four month old German Shepherd Lab mix and I bought this as something to keep her mentally stimulated. The item seems to work as designed. However, she opens all of the compartments in less than 2 minutes and gets all of the food. She seems to have fun at the time but it doesn't last as long as I was hoping for.

    Too simple

By Ecco on Nov 13, 2021

Not difficult at all, limited in use as too easy. Needs to have additional uses to be more practical

    Well made but too easy

By Nessa on Aug 7, 2021

I was very surprised by how fast my 11 week old beagle puppy figured this puzzle out. Honestly, it takes her less than 3 minutes to get treats out of all the wells, even with the puzzle set up on a stool to make it more challenging. It is solidly made but not the challenge I hoped it would be.
