About Outward Hound Puzzle Toys for Dogs

Healthy Playtime Problem Solving

Did you know that 15 minutes of mental exercise can have a similar effect on your dog’s emotional well-being as 30 minutes of physical exercise? Dogs love to explore and problem solve and will use their noses and paws as tools. Each Nina Ottoson puzzle toy game is designed with your dog’s natural behaviors, senses and safety in mind.

Reduce Unwanted Behaviors

Setting your dog to work on a puzzle or game helps focus his attention and energy. This mental redirection can help reduce boredom, anxiety and destructive behaviors, too. Try using puzzle toys to distract your dog from fireworks, thunderstorms and other stressful situations.

Four Levels of Play

All dogs are different. That’s why each treat puzzle toy was designed with a different level of difficulty—to please dogs of all skill levels, whether they are beginners or puzzle-solving pros. Start by choosing a level that suits your pup’s skill set and level up as he learns!

Level 1

Perfect for beginners, these puzzles help gain interest and prepare dogs for puzzles to come.

Level 2

Features added obstacles, requiring your dog to combine actions to retrieve each tasty reward.

Level 3

These advanced puzzles challenge your dog to complete several steps in order to reach the hidden treats.

Level 4

This is the hardest level and requires multiple steps and problem-solving skills to solve!

For Bonding and Training

Nina Ottosson puzzle games are a great way to build your relationship with a newly adopted dog or help a shy dog come out of his shell. You can also use puzzles to help train your dog and practice basic commands like “sit” and “stay”.

Great for 3 month old puppy

By nywanderlustgirl on Dec 9, 2021

I just used this on my new 3 month puppy and OMG it did all the things! First, it kept him from chewing on my sweater as I could redirect him to find the treats underneath the caps. Then, it is durable so when he started chewing the white caps during play, it sustained. The best part was watching him figuring out the puzzle to find the treats and he figured it out which is so amazing to watch and he even chased with the caps awhile. We spent about 25 mins on it and the best part: it TUCKERED him out - he is now napping after a hard play session. I want more of these for engaging a hyper, teething, puppy! This was amazing.

Dog only wanted to chew on parts

By MomofLinc on Dec 30, 2021

A complete fail. My dog did not want to eat the treats that he loves as much as he wanted to take the white covers off and chew them up. In the box to give to Goodwill.

    Playtime and learning

By Asher on Jan 15, 2022

My pup gets excited when he sees the toy being filled. He was quick to catch on and now it is fun to watch him sniff out the treats.

Great activity for puppy play time

By Blue on Jan 16, 2022

Loves this Puppy Smart Dog Toy. Gets excited every time we bring it out. The bone pieces are tough and chew resistant.

    Horrid purchase

By Chew on Oct 1, 2021

My four-month-old Morkey had every treat eaten within 10 minutes! Then she proceeded to chew the white plastic covers up. If you have a chewer, do not buy this toy! A terrible waste of money.

    Disappointed

By Riley on Aug 26, 2021

The white "bones" don't flip easily so they just pick them up and run away to try to chew them. I took the toy away so they wouldn't destroy it.

    Love this!

By Jackie on Apr 11, 2021

My 4.5 month mini poodle loves this game. It took her a few times to figure it out, but once she did she was all in!.I also learned that small apple pieces are her favorites over mini training treats. I didn't see that coming! It was a great game to have during her spay!

    Not really worth it

By MarilynG on May 7, 2021

I first gave this to my 9 mo Lab, and it took about 10 minutes to resolve the puzzle. Now, at 10 weeks, it's about 4 minutes. Hardly worth it!

    Meek love it

By Cilla on Feb 21, 2021

My pup loves this game! He is a chichuahua terrier mix and loves having his brain tested! He learned how to use this game so quickly. I have come up with new exciting ways to use it! We put it on a stool, we hide it so Meek has to find it. We highly recommend this item.
