About Outward Hound Puzzle Toys for Dogs

Healthy Playtime Problem Solving

Did you know that 15 minutes of mental exercise can have a similar effect on your dog’s emotional well-being as 30 minutes of physical exercise? Dogs love to explore and problem solve and will use their noses and paws as tools. Each Nina Ottoson puzzle toy game is designed with your dog’s natural behaviors, senses and safety in mind.

Reduce Unwanted Behaviors

Setting your dog to work on a puzzle or game helps focus his attention and energy. This mental redirection can help reduce boredom, anxiety and destructive behaviors, too. Try using puzzle toys to distract your dog from fireworks, thunderstorms and other stressful situations.

Four Levels of Play

All dogs are different. That’s why each treat puzzle toy was designed with a different level of difficulty—to please dogs of all skill levels, whether they are beginners or puzzle-solving pros. Start by choosing a level that suits your pup’s skill set and level up as he learns!

Level 1

Perfect for beginners, these puzzles help gain interest and prepare dogs for puzzles to come.

Level 2

Features added obstacles, requiring your dog to combine actions to retrieve each tasty reward.

Level 3

These advanced puzzles challenge your dog to complete several steps in order to reach the hidden treats.

Level 4

This is the hardest level and requires multiple steps and problem-solving skills to solve!

For Bonding and Training

Nina Ottosson puzzle games are a great way to build your relationship with a newly adopted dog or help a shy dog come out of his shell. You can also use puzzles to help train your dog and practice basic commands like “sit” and “stay”.

    Good beginner puzzle toy

By thebridget on Jan 26, 2017

My dog was a little scared of this at first. Once he figured it out, he really enjoyed it. However, after a short while it became too easy for him to get treats out. I started using it to feed him dinner (instead of just putting food in his bowl). It fits more than a cup of kibble inside and keeps my dog occupied a little longer. Overall I'm pleased with this product.

Still trying to find the right treat for this

By NurseMissLisa on Sep 8, 2016

I purchased this to keep my chocolate lab busy. The toy is durable and I like the product but I am having problems finding the right treat to put in the ball. The treats are ejected very easily. I wish it were more challenging for my lab. In conclusion, I really like the product I need to keep searching for a treat to make it more challenging.

    Treat Ball

By HeyMom on Aug 3, 2016

For our lab puppy, this has been a fun toy! You do have to find the perfect size treat, so it's more challenging. (His kibble is too small & falls right out) It's made of hard plastic, so it's a loud banging nusense on hardwood floors. (We just play with it on our carpeted areas) Our older lab, she's almost 3, doesn't find it amusing!

My terrier type mixed breed has destroyed most toys. Finally found one he can't destroy.

Not a puzzle, just a ball with holes.

By Chase on Jul 10, 2016

Too easy. It's basically a ball with two holes in it. I would have rather cut some holes in a 2 liter bottle than spend money on this if i could have seen it. It only takes the dogs about 30 seconds to get all the treats out.

The holes are too big to feed kibble.

    By Mamak1m on Apr 30, 2016

I purchased this to be a backup for another treat ball. I have a 6 month old German Shepherd mix who eats too fast and needs to be kept busy. This ball has 2 holes for the treats or kibble to fall out. Filling it was a pain. Those holes are big in relation to dog food kibble so a meal of 1 cup of kibble completely spills out within 1 - 2 minutes which defeats the purpose of why I purchased the ball.

    Love It!

    By Kim49 on Mar 14, 2016

Love this, we were buying the IQ buys from another source however our dog was breaking them left and right. Then we found this one and it's made with thicker material and so far is holding up. Our dog loves to chew on them and they are lasting, but when he does get them rolling he will chase it all over. The only thing is the opening for the treats is big so can't really put any treats in as they just fall out, however our dog is more for running and chasing it.

Got this for my sisters lab. Not the hardest to get treats out but her dog does enjoy it and keeps her entertained.
