Eco-Straw uses special technology to compress high fiber wheat straw into a pellet that is twice as absorbent as newspaper based litter and will absorb 300 percent its weight in moisture.
When wet, Eco-Straw pellets expand and separate, allowing the wet areas to be scooped on a daily basis. This eliminates waste and the litter will last longer than traditional wood shavings. Easier to clean means less time cleaning cages and more time with your pet. Eco-Straw stays in the cage and litter pan and is not easily kicked or thrown out by active pets
Natural fiber from the wheat grass plant is not only safe if consumed by your pet, but can be beneficial to the digestive system of rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas and other plant eating animals.
Eco-Straw is your ideal choice for a safe, dust free litter or bedding for your pet. It is toilet flushable and beneficial to the soil when composted. Heat treatment of the pellets guarantees that Eco-Straw will be mite and insect free.
Eco-Straw is cleaner and more hygienic for your pet than wood shavings. Due to the unique characteristics of Eco-Straw the urine will migrate below the surface area thereby moving moisture away from your pet. Eco-Straw will not track or stick to coats of animals with long hair, thus making the owner and pet more content and happy.

I saw another reviewer comment about eye infections and I had a similar experience. I bought this product back in June to layer beneath my rabbits' paper bedding for extra absorption. I left my 12-year-old Netherland dwarf in the care of my dad when I went to the beach for the 4th of July. When I got home after a week, her blanket had a circle of orange-brown dust deeply embedded in it. Worst of all, her eye was almost completely white. She does have cataracts, but this was different. I took her to the vet where they prescribed oral antibiotics and eyedrops. It took 2 months to clear up. My blind senior rabbit often falls and needs human intervention to get back up. The eye affected was the side she typically tips over on. It was these eco pellets that got into her eye! They turn into dust once wet. I won't be buying again.

No!
This litter is not good for masking odor at all! I typically don't buy the pellet litter because the pellets don't sift with scoop, so I'm scooping pellets out each time I scoop. I feel it's wasteful. I went to scoop this morning and noticed the odor was strong. This does not mask odor at all. This is definitely not going to work! I scoop 1 to 2 times a day to keep the litter box clean so I am delingent in kerping litter boxes tidy. On to the chore of trying to find yet another non-toxic litter that masks smell and wont harm my cats. Ugh!

Better option, wouldn’t buy again
I am finding this litter to be a lot more messy than the previous brand that I was using. This falls apart fast and I have had a terrible time with odor. I have to change it out at least twice as fast as my previous brand which means I’m also going through more product. The only thing I feel good about this litter is knowing if my rabbit decides to eat it for whatever reason it is non toxic and digestible. Overall I feel like there are better similar options for my situation

Cashmere loves his litter
We have had our adorable chinchilla for just over a year now and have always used Oxbow Eco-Straw. When we got him this was my first chinchilla, but I have had other pets in cages (mice, hamsters, a snake and an iguana, not all at once). From the iguana I learned it is best to use products that if eaten, won't hurt your pet. (No, he didn't die - in our education upon getting one 😜). So with that in mind, and being a fan/trusting the Oxbow brand, I chose this product and it has worked great! I have no idea how smelly his cage could have been getting - there was a time (teenager?) he was getting smellier by the end of the week (he has a large cage all to himself - as in 4' by 3' and yes, I said week), but it has gone back to working well so that's why I think it had to do with his life cycle. Yes, after I dump the pellets there is a little pile of sawdust stuck to the bottom which easily wipes out - but that's it! Cashmere's feet have never been messy. One 20lb - at least 2-3mo?

Does A Great Job, Still Somewhat Saw-Dusty
It soaks up the ammonia smell from pee great and is safe for rats to eat (when they feel like it). However, I always find granules or large saw-"dust" pieces on the bottom, like others have mentioned. It's not light or small enough to become airborne and fly around though.
Would give a 4.8/10

Works well, hard to clean
Like many bunny owners, I’ve been on the hunt for a litter box pellet that will cut down on odors and make cleaning easier. For a while I was dumping out the entire litter boxes every day, otherwise it got so stinky. It got very expensive, and it seemed like such a waste. What works well for me is a potty pad on the bottom, followed by an inch or so of pellets, topped by another inch of fluff. I found I can spot clean the poos out of the fluff and get away with cleaning the whole thing for several days. But the pellets have to soak up the urine and keep the smell down. These pellets did well with the smell, and they DID soak up urine, but they remain damp and gross when they fall apart. I’d like to be able to spot clean by taking the soaked pellets out without dumping the whole thing, but I wasn’t able to do that. They turn into wet sawdust, and it only mixed in with the dry pellets when I tried to spot clean it. Price wasn’t terrible, and since it did keep the smell under control for a couple days, I wasn’t too upset. But I wanted to like it more. A 20-pound bag won’t last me more than a couple weeks.

Awesome for small pets
Works super well for my rabbits! It doesn’t get stuck in their fur which is a huge bonus. It keeps the smell minimal and is easy to scoop out. They don’t seem to eat it much either like I expected they might. The only downside is the bags don’t last long between two rabbits

Oxbow Eco Straw Palleted Litter
This is the best letter I have ever ordered at the advise of my vet for my rabbit who as she has gotten older had some digestive problems. She can eat this and it is made of straw which is good for rabbits. Also very easy to clean up in her potty box. I love this product. Mrs J.S.

What smell?
I have a New Zealand rabbit that I recently rescued and she is currently housed in a transport carrier until her new enclosure is ready. She is indoors and the smell of rabbit pee is choking! My daughter was having to take the tray off the bottom and go hose it off 1-2 times DAILY. I bought this litter actually in preparation for the litter box that will be in her new space but decided to try it out in the tray of her current space. Y'all!! It has been 4 days since the last cleanout and the only reason we had to this time was because the tray was getting full. Not a single smell! Her cage is even right by my work desk and I smelled nothing! This stuff is amazing!! And I love that I can just through it out into the compost!

You need to know everything about this litter
First the good points Yes it does absorb urine and block the smell. But being a wood product when you use it it becomes dust and it can turn a lot of your stuff orange if the rabbit kicks it everywhere. Also we're starting to notice increased eye infections we keep our guys beyond clean too. Since this stuff is meant to be absorbent if they get any in their eye that's beginning to make sense to us we're going to go to a different type of litter. These are just my two cents maybe you'll have better look but the health of the fur kid is everything.
