This hamster habitat would be ideal for a Syrian hamster.

What is the diameter of the exercise wheel? Is the cage really only 25 x 13 x 6 inches? Or is it 13 inches tall and only six inches wide?

The exercise wheel is approximately 5 inches in diameter. This habitat measures 24.5 inches long x 13.75 inches wide x 12.5 inches high.

is the bridge just wire? I'd be concerned about their little feet getting caught.

Too cramped

This cage wheel is way too small to start. Oxbow should not be recommending this cage for a Syrian hamster knowing how small the wheel is as the hamsters back would suffer from arching. While seemingly spacy the design doesn't allow unbroken floor space making it actually cramped for your hammy. Do not buy this cage or take the plastic tunnel insert out it doesn't work for space needs of hamsters.

Horrible product

I assume anything from Oxbow is quality. Yikes! Do not buy this hamster enclosure. Impossible to fit the parts together. Falls apart. Too small for a hamster. I spent 3 hours trying to make it work. Poor quality. Shame on Oxbow.DO NOT BUY!

Way too small- especially for a Syrian

No idea why oxbow would think it’s okay to market a Syrian (teddy bear, golden, etc) hamster for this cage. I’m sure this cage would suffice for smaller hamsters or better yet mice, but from one day of use my Syrian was biting at the bars and hated it. Since then, I’ve done some research, made an inexpensive bin cage and got her a much larger wheel because the one this came with looked painful to watch her run on it was that small. She’s since been much happier in her new home and I’m glad I made the switch. If you have a medium to large hamster- please don’t get this cage. They won’t like it, and they’ll let you know.

Great for mouse

I purchased this for my sweet field mouse that I had to raise from about a week old & it’s perfect for her. See through bottom, she feels she is tunneling. We LOVE the top access to her. Very convenient. The only negative is she chewed the wheel holder off, so keep in mind you’ll likely have to get something else for exercise. Has room to add on ledges & ropes, but not not much floor space for extras.

Great for mice!

I have one male mouse living in this cage, and he loves it! I would recommend it for mice, not Hamsters.

Less than “recommended” space

Although this is smaller than the “recommended” guidelines of online hamster communities, I believe this cage is more than what the humane society recommends. If you don’t have the space for a 40 gallon breeder tank or an IKEA Detolf, then this might be a better option than what else is out there, like a standard critter trail or a 10 gallon tank. At least there is good ventilation, it has a good depth for bedding, and it might be easy to clean. All of my tanks are bigger than 450 but I wouldn’t attack anyone for having this. I would even use it temporarily.

Too small for hamsters

The Oxbow Enriched life hamster habitat is too small for any type of hamster, even the smallest dwarf hamster. Hamsters need at least 450 square inches of floorspace, excluding levels because they count as enrichment, not floorspace. The wheel included with this is also too small for any hamster species(hamsters are species not breeds). The wheel will cause any hamster to arch it's back. The cage also only has one very tiny door at the top. Hamsters are prey animals, so when a human hand is coming down from above, they will be very scared.

Does not allow enough space for any Hamster

The minimum required floor space for Hamsters in the U.S. is 450 sq in, however, 600+ is highly recommended. The best cage out there is the Prevue 528, however, you can also create a DIY bin cage for cheap. If you need more info about this cage (or others), please watch Munchie's Place (YouTube). She has a good way of explaining things without me having to go into too much detail. Thanks!

I'm disappointed in you oxbow..

I love your rat food, hate your hamster food. It's terrible. Pretty good brand otherwise. But this? Horrid. Way to small for any hamster. It's not the 80s anymore. 450+ Sq inches. This is just gross
