Description

Make mealtime more appealing and prevent obesity in your small pet with Oxbow Orchard Grass Hay Small Animal Food. Some small pets like Guinea Pigs, rabbits and chinchillas, need hay to maintain healthy digestion. In fact, hay should make up 75 percent of their diet. Along with digestion, hay keeps teeth trim and promotes natural foraging and mental stimulation. Oxbow Orchard Grass Hay Small Animal Food has a sweet smell and taste that small pets love. It is soft-textured, high in fiber and low in protein, making it ideal for adult small pets. Feed unlimited amounts as alternative to timothy, oat hay and brome or blend it with other hays to create a sweet and nutritious combination.

Key Benefits

  • Orchard Grass is a green, fruity-smelling grass hay which many small animals enjoy. To the untrained eye, it looks identical to timothy grass, but the seed heads have a different shape.
  • Orchard Grass is a perennial cool season grass with flat leaf blades. The leaves vary in color from green to bluish-green depending on the maturity of the plant.
  • Orchard Grass is recommended by veterinarians for small herbivores due to the nutritional content. Orchard Grass can be mixed with other grass hays when feeding your pet. This is encouraged because animals seem to like the variety. Mixing your grasses will encourage them to eat more hay, which is beneficial to the health of the animal.
  • Hay is absolutely vital to the health of small herbivores. Orchard Grass also provides a long-strand fiber source that is needed to improve the digestive and intestinal functions by stimulating the digestive system.
  • When animals are fed free-choice hay, it promotes their natural chewing behavior, which helps prevent molar spurs and other dental problems that are so common in these small herbivores.

  • This Is Another Good Quality Hay From Oxbow

    By on

We are always happy with Oxbow hays! Although be aware that you get what you pay for. Anything larger than the 40oz size might not be as good in quality. I had gotten a pretty bad 9lb bag of alfalfa once. I called Oxbow and was told that their smaller bags are hand sorted, but the large 9lb bags are not. I was also told that the 9lb bags are cheaper because the quality may not be as good, and could contain more waste.

  • Love Oxbow products!

We've fed our guinea pig Oxbow products from the beginning on the vet's recommendation. Our teenager bought the cheaper competitor and there is def a difference in the fillers, dust, etc. I only wish they would cut this hay a little longer, it is cut so small it falls through the hay trough and makes a mess when he eats!

  • Good quality hay

    By on

Oxbow Orchard Grass Hay is the only hay that I feed our guinea pigs. It's soft, smells sweet and our piggies devour it. I was feeding Oxbow Timothy Hay and since I switched to the Orchard Hay, there's so much less wasted. I definitely recommend this for any small pet.

  • I highly recommend this

    By on

The quality of this brand of hay is so much better than what is locally available at our local pet and feed stores. The color is actually green, the texture is better, and little goes to waste. In other brands much is broken bits that fall through the feeder or our rabbit can not pick up to eat.

  • I've been feeding orchard grass from Oxbow for years

    By on

But, I've had so many more guinea pigs than I do now. I haven't bought anything smaller than a 25-50 lb box in years. I'm now down to three girls and didn't have the cash to go super bulk, so I grabbed Chewy's 9 lb bag. It's well packaged and still fits in my bin. The quality is still great, and I can't say for sure right now how long this will last for three adult females. I'm wondering if I should change old habits and keep buying the 9 lb bag in the future.

  • Great hay for rabbits

    By on

My rabbits love the Oxbow Orchard Grass and eat it up. I just recently bought this product from Chewy.com and I'm sold. They have it at a great price and I don't have to worry about running out. My rabbits might hurt me if I run out of their favorite hay LOL

I just bought the 9lb bag of orchard grass hay to mix in with the 50lb bag of timothy hay and my guinea pigs love it. Really nice long strands, very green and fresh, and really nice smelling. I love this hay

  • Good for timothy allergies

    By on

My daughter developed allergies from timothy hay, so I had to find an alternative to feed our indoor bunnies. Orchard Grass Hay worked perfectly. The bunnies loved it and no more itching and scratching!
