New Preferred Bedding for My Rabbits
I have had rabbits for almost 10 years and had always swore by Carefresh bedding with maybe some Kaytee bedding here and there for their litter-boxes. Recently, I noticed a decline in quality over the past several purchases of Carefresh. It seemed more and more dusty and just not performing as well at masking odor. Oxbow has always been my preferred source for basically everything else— food, hay, supplements, enrichment toys—so when I noticed they had a bedding, I decided to give it a go. I don’t know why I didn’t earlier—I’ve bought probably 5 bags by now and am glad I made the change. It seems to hold up a bit better with odor and is definitely less dusty. The rabbits approve too, of course!
Wish I had listened to the other reviews..
So, I did read the reviews before buying this and I wish I had heeded them instead of wasting my money. Just like similar reviews, I found bits of what appears to be shredded plastic balloons mixed in with the bedding. I had to tediously pick through the bedding to make sure I got enough of it out, but the thought of my Guinea pig choking on plastic is a huge concern, something I shouldn’t have to worry about when it comes to pet bedding. Also, the bedding just dissolves into gross mush that smells bad when wet. It’s basically just shredded toilet paper. I will not be buying this again, and I honestly feel Chewy should take some action and remove the product, especially since there are multiple complaints about the plastic bits mixed with the bedding.
Works well but beware
I love Oxbow and I basically buy all my bunny supplies from them, however this most recent package of Pure Comfort bedding contained a large, sharp chunk of plastic. Thankfully no one got stabbed, but as you can see from the photos that easily could have happened. The product is great, but quality control seems to be lacking.
Oxbow bedding
I have tried a couple of different brands of paper bedding and I find my guinea pigs like this and it is easy to fluff and spread. Also, some of the others had a scent to them and this one does not. Soaks up urine wll and easy to clean out
Disappointed
This is a brand of bedding that comes highly recommended in several hamster communities and forums however I keep finding foreign objects in the pack that I've purchased. It looks like a latex glove got pulled into the shredder and packaged with the paper. I do like that it's relatively dust free, but that's about the only good thing about this product. I wouldn't recommend it.
Perfect bedding
My rabbits Benny and Bobby love this bedding. It’s soft and they can move it around to suit their needs, especially Benny, he’s always rearranging things.
Actually Low Dust
I was using a very dusty bedding brand (Frisco) for my guinea pigs and they would have little sniffles/wheezing after I changed out their bedding. Luckily they didn't get respiratory infections. I decided to try this product and am pleasantly surprised. I didn't notice any dust flying around when I took this bedding out of the package. The bedding is also much softer than the other brand. Worth the extra few dollars.
Found large pieces of rubber
Please do not buy this product. I had to dig through the entire package because I found about 20 pieces of what appeared to be a balloon in it. There was stretchy blue rubber throughout the whole bag. The biggest piece was about the size of my wallet and the smallest piece was smaller than my pinky finger nail.
Great product
I used this with my hedgehog, and guinea pigs. It doesn't stick to them. But it absorbs well.
This stuff is AWFUL
I have had my guinea pigs for over 4 years and this is the first time I have purchased/used this product. Disappointing is an understatement. This stuff is absolutely horrible. When wet, it turns into the most absolutely horrible smelling, messy and disgusting sludge I have ever had to clean out of their cage. It shrinks down to nothing and is just a completely terrible product......I would never recommend this to anyone. The first time using, I also noticed my piggies bellies, feet (undercarriage) were the dirtiest they had ever been and I had to clean the cage way more often because of the foul smell. Definitely never buying again.
