6 Dissappointed Guinea Pigs Ignore the New Formula
By CavyLover on Jan 9, 2021
I used to buy bags and bags of these treats in every different flavor. My Guines Pigs loved them. Just hearing me open the drawer where I kept them was enough to send them into squealing fits. Actually cracking open the container so they could smell them sent them out of their minds. Then there was some genius update to the formula/recipe. Now every flavor is a scentless, hard tack biscuit more suited to survival rations than a flavorful treat. My guinea pigs turn up their noses and refuse to go near. I scour local pet stores looking for packages of the original biscuits. Once those suppplies run out I won’t be purchasing anymore

They changed the recipe
By Ashleigh on Nov 26, 2020
My guinea pigs LOVED the original treats. But out of no where Oxbow decided to change the recipe, and didn't even rebrand the packaging to let us know. I have auto-ship and just expected to receive the same treats I always have. Not only are they thicker, harder, and have a hole in the middle; but they no longer smell the same either. The original one smelled like dill, now it just smells like molasses. My girls were so disappointed when I tried giving them these treats. I used to be able to break off smaller pieces easily, but now if I want to give my special needs piggie a treat, I have to use a mortar and pestle to crush it up for her.

Too hard to handle
By Debbie on Nov 20, 2020
My guinea pigs used to love their oxbow treats. They would get so excited at snack time. I would say "who wants a cookie?" and they run to get their treat. Now that oxbow has changed the formula, size and texture my boys won't even look at them. They sniffed them and walked away. I could see the sadness in their little eyes. Now I'm stuck with two bags that they will never eat. So disappointed with this change. I hope that Oxbow changes it back to the original formula or I will have find new treats for my boys.

Bring back the original formula
By becnc on Jan 2, 2021
My rabbits will no longer touch these treats since the size and the formula were changed. I just removed all Oxbow treats from my auto shipments. Please bring back the original treats. These don't even smell good any more.

They were good.......
By suzyq2020 on Nov 14, 2020
I opened a new bag of these yesterday and thought I had purchased the wrong thing. The biscuits are bigger, flatter and have a hole in them. I have 4 piggies that used to love these. They now are refusing them. I would split in half for sharing but these things are hard as rocks. They also don't smell very good. Will be looking for new treats.

Will not be buying anymore since the change
By Diana59 on Oct 21, 2020
My 2 bunnies Tazman and Gizmo loved these treats and now since they have made them thicker they just sniff them and leave them. They always loved the other ones and would get all excited when I would bring them one. I am so disappointed that they changed the way they make them and when I try breaking them apart it is very hard to do. I even went to Tractor Supply looking for the old ones and they have the new ones too. Will not buy anymore.

THESE ARE THE BEST TREATS YOU CAN GET FOR A GUINEA PIG!!
By Erika on Nov 30, 2020
I LOVE Oxbow treats! They have guinea pig safe ingredients and flavors! I am very picky about what I give my guinea pigs, and I LOVE Oxbow simple rewards! And from a guinea pigs point of view the carrot flavor is their favorite.

Will No Longer Purchase
By Zanna on Oct 25, 2020
We have two guinea pigs that normally love these treats. At least they loved the old formula. One of them loved them so much, she’d snatch the treat right out of my hand. Since they changed the recipe and made these treats thicker, our guinea pigs walk away from these treats now. I should have read the reviews before purchasing my last bag because I feel like I wasted money on these.

My piggies LOVE these! I love the ingredients and don’t feel too bad if I happen to give my piggies two in a day!

New shape, too hard for my guinea pigs
By Marcy on Sep 8, 2020
I used to order these treats from another vendor. I switched to Chewy because they were cheaper here, even with the flat rate shipping. I noticed that this particular flavor has a different shape and texture than one I ordered from the other vendor. They seem slightly thicker, and the biggest difference is that they are MUCH harder than the other treats. My guinea pigs will take it, then drop it. When I tried to break one treat into smaller pieces, it was very difficult to do. Even though they eventually ate them as smaller pieces, it took a while for them to nibble on them. I'm afraid they will associate this flavor with the harder texture and eventually stop eating these because of the texture I used to order these treats from another vendor. I don't understand why the shape and texture of this flavor is different than the other flavors. The expiration date is stamped with June 2022, so I doubt these are old. I see other reviews that contain pictures of this flavor but with different heart shapes, so I don't understand why the bag I received is different. … more
