Can people break into my house if we are away?

There is not a locking mechanism integrated into the feeder. The manufacturer recommends purchasing a lock for the window that is commonly used for window AC units, or add a stick or pole to the top of the window to prevent the window from opening up when in use.
Can you close it at night to prevent rats from eating from it?

The feeder can be closed but it does not feature a locking mechanism.
Can the birds see you?

Excellent window feeder

Excellent feeder for city apartment buildings! It takes a while for the birds to become accustomed to it but it's lots of fun to have them visit just by my desk. My cat gives it a 10/10. Took about 25min to assemble. The most difficult part was affixing the sides - need a lot of strength to do that. But general assembly is simple.
