I have used a grinder on my toy dogs for years, but it was the kind with sandpaper rolled around the spindle. I really like this because it has a better grinding surface, is more compact, and has a light. My dogs have extremely long hair, and the grinding surface is well-protected so it doesn't catch hair. I didn't see anything about how I get a replacement grinding surface when this one wears down, which the directions say can happen in a year or two. I'd love to learn about that.
Best Grinder Ever!
I was hesitant to buy a grinder because both my dogs are rescues and tend to be skittish about electric devices but this grinder is so quiet you can barely hear it. Both Bliss and Ben sat calmly as I ground the sharp points off their nails, especially the dew claws. I did one foot at a time and gave them a rest in between. I followed the manufacturers 5 second rule on each nail and it worked perfectly. I am grateful for no more expensive and inconvenient trips to the vet for simple trims and no more scratches when they vigorously share their paws for attention. They are very affectionate and now they can show it without hearing the "Ouuuuuuuch" when they scratched me. This is a great product at a great price. Do not hesitate to purchase it. :D
Best Electric Nail Grinder
I bought this to try with our three legged rescue dog who has been a challenge when it comes to maintaining his nails. Because of his gait, his nails have a tendency to curl under, wear unevenly and get sharp. He quickly gets overstimulated when I use clippers/another brand of nail grinder (would try to bite them/me while attempting to escape the entire time) so I would usually trim one or two nails a session and never to the length I preferred. I've used the Patpet three times so far - the first he only stayed still briefly and I was able to work on two nails. About a week later, I was able to hold him until he calmed and trimmed both front paws. And on the 3rd session (two days after the 2nd), I was able to do all three paws! I follow the instructions and only trim each nail a few seconds at a time but what a difference! He relaxes fairly quickly when I start holding him and hasn't tried to bite the Patpet or me. I expect that it will take a few more times to get the nails to the length I'd prefer but then maintenance should be a breeze after that. So grateful and pleased to have found this product.
Game changer for trimming nails!
Wow! I just got done doing chihuahua nails in record time. I had the nail trimmer charged up and ready. It easily did five dog’s nails with no issues. Yes it does make a small humming noise and yes the nails smoke when they’re being ground. But the dogs are so much more relaxed and trimming gets done faster. My one dog actually fell asleep while I was working on her nails. Usually she stresses by panting and shaking. Plus now I can easily trim the toenails that like to curl under tight to the pad.
Great for trimming down nails!
Okay, I have tried Pedi-Paws on my dog’s nails before and it was tedious and slow. Not with this nail grinder. This grinder grinds down the nails pretty darn quick. My dog hates for me to clip his nails, but he didn’t really seem to mind the grinder too much. It works really well and is pretty quiet. Thank goodness, because he is a big whoosey dog. Lol! I’m really pleased with this purchase.
Love this nail grinder!
I have used a number of nail grinders over the years and love this one. The noise level is low and doesn't bother my dogs at all. What I love is the LEDs which makes it easy to see how far you're grinding down and any sharp edges that need rounded. The motor has quite a bit of power and doesn't "bog down". The guard around the grinding wheel keeps the toenail in place making it breeze to get through all 4 paws in no time. I'm very impressed with this unit!!!
I purchased this to try on my dogs since regular clippers left their nails sharp. My one dog was a little more hesitant to let me use it on her, but she also doesn't like me clipping her nails. I was able to use this on both of my dogs nails and they are nice and smooth. The LED light is very helpful to see what you are doing and the sound is much quieter than I would have thought.
Great little tool
Not sure what the other comment is talking about when they stated this tool is loud. It is very quiet in comparison to the rotary tool we used to use. My dog hates getting his nails cut and does everything possible to get out of it. This tool is a game changer since he doesn't even know now that we are doing it. This tool has already saved us a lot of time compared to the dremel.
Easy to use nail grinder
This nail grinder gets the job done. I love the 2 speeds and the work light. My dogs are a little scared of it, so it'll take some getting used to, but I'd imagine few dogs who would embrace it enthusiastically at first. Either way, I am all over anything that means I don't have to clip their nails. I am terrified of cutting too far and making them bleed.
This is really nice!
I got this in blue a few weeks ago for my dogs and cats. I am a mobile groomer and we have some older grinders like this without lights on them and Dremels in our vans. I prefer this to the Dremel brand because there's much less chance the pet hair getting caught around the shaft! Also the lights are a great help and it's much quieter. It is light weight, works on my giant dog and cats. My large dog is scared with nails, trying to use while he's sleeping. Good buy as well.
