I bought this for my cat after he wiggled his way out of a different style harness. This one seems more secure - I like that it's a step-in type so I don't have to wrestle something over his head. I also really like the way it clips on the back (although that clip is super small so takes some practice getting my fingers in the right spots) where the rings are for connecting to the leash - one fastener and it's on. The only problem I have is that the clip sits too far down on my cat's back. It's several inches behind the shoulder blades, which results in the whole harness sliding down his shoulders, which gets in the way of his walking. Adjusting the straps doesn't seem to help with where the clip ends up on the back; I'm guessing that it might sit differently on a dog's build than it does on the cat. So my work-around is that I have a break-away collar, and instead of putting it on the cat, I use it as an extra strap on the harness to gather the straps a little bit behind the neck, and keep it from sliding down the cat's shoulders. With that one modification, my cat is comfortable and has nothing interfering with his gait, and I feel confident that everything will stay in place so he won't slide out.
I think that this design is great for dogs but not cats, especially if you have a cat that might get a bit nervous every now and again. I really liked this harness until one day I was walking with my kitty, Arlo, and he got spooked by a car as we hadn’t been out in a while due to a lot of storms in California. I bent down to pick him up and rather than letting me hold him, he was spooked even more at this point and did a crazy jump into the air, completely twisting his way out of the harness. He bolted away from me immediately and I was unable to find and catch him for just under an hour. To say I was hysterical would almost be an understatement as Arlo is my baby. Eventually, we were reunited with treats and toys but we both spent the evening exhausted by the stress of the day. To be completely fair, I had just loosened the harness slightly that day to accommodate for his growth as he has been wearing the harness for about 3 months when this happened a little over a month ago. However, now I’m too nervous to use the harness again given that he’s proven he can escape the harness if he really wants to and we live in too busy of a neighborhood next to train tracks. I couldn’t handle another great escape, so I will have to get a new harness. I will say the harness is gentle on their throats but does restrict movement of the shoulders slightly so their gait does change slightly. Also, Arlo did not always like having me put it on him but it seemed to be comfortable once it was on and outside exploring (likely because he just loves outside time).
Bought two harnesses for my two dogs. They’re wonderful! I love their quality and the green and red colors are very vibrant. I just purchased the matching collar and leash. Just wonderful!
Even after our vet spent time sizing these harnesses, our cats were still able to walk out of them. They may be well made, but if the cats can slip their harnesses, they are not safe.
I got this harness in XS for my 6lb chihuahua to use to wear over sweaters, but it has now become our go-to everyday harness! Love this harness for every season!
Far too small my cat slipped right out of it even when tightened.
I measured my dog and she’s a small but this harness is too big for her. Too much material when it’s sized to fit a small dog.
I’m a cat. It fits well, but I thought it a tad on the large side. My human adjusted it so it fit well, but I don’t like him handling my front paws to get them through the straps. For me, a vest works much better.
Love this walk in harness now that she out grew the Velcro one is bright and sturdy
Small and difficult to maneuver. Not that sturdy.
