The Penn-Plax Cascade Aquarium Canister Filter is an external filter that helps you meet a wide array of your aquarium's filtration needs. It delivers powerful mechanical, chemical and biological filtration by combining the benefits of several types of filter media—all with one, handy canister filter. Each pump comes with large filter trays, startup filter media and input/output tubing so you can begin filtering right away. The large filter trays mean you can use more media, including Bio-Floss, Bio-Sponges, activated carbon and any combination you'd like. With a push-button primer, two 360-degree rotational valve taps, flow-rate control valves and hose clamps, this filter is easy to start and adjust. After just one day, you should see visible improvement in your tank’s water quality. This is also great for use with aquatic turtles and aquatic amphibians.

So far so good with this penn plax. Everyone says that the canister filters will leak, but I think if you maintain them well, they will do just fine. I am loving mine so far, and it had helped to clear up a bacterial bloom and a tank crash within a week. I will continue to use this on my 75 gallon tank that is heavily planted and medium stocked with fish. I think it is small enough to hide in the corner. I am going to put it in a tub just to make sure that it doesnt leak on the floor, but its really not leaking and the seals are good. I'm sure you can buy seals 10 years down the line if they dry rot.
Great canister filter. Pretty easy set up as far as putting it together. Did have some Trouble getting the pump started. Overall great pump pretty quiet wish the output house could extend more into the tank but I'm very happy with the purchase.
Took quite a while to get this filter to prime and run correctly. Once we were able to get it to run it has done a great job keeping the water clear and clean in for our two turtles.
Very easy to set up. Quite operation. Good water flow and ample aeration. Adjustable Intake and Outflow Lengths.
I bought this in November 2021. It burned up in July 2023. No filter is worth $100+ every 1-1/2 years.
I have these on my turtle and fish tanks. They can take lots of different media and are very quiet when maintenanced correctly. Only negative is researching proper gph requirements, because if you go to small they will need cleaned alot and the motor will get loud.
Hooked it up, works fine, but the filter that came with my aquarium kit works better than this filter. Very disappointed. Went back to using the hang on filter that came with aquarium kit. This canister filter does not pull as much water as it claims. The Top Fin hang on filter has twice the pull as this canister filter. Waste of money. Still looking for a place that might have the old Vortex diatom filter. Those were great for once every 3 month cleaning.
Love how you can customize the filter media. Had it for 5 years now and it’s starting to make a rattling noise, it’s showing it’s wear but it still works
Honestly I’d say it’s worth buying but only when they do the half off sale tbh but I wish it came with better instructions so I would recommend to watch a ton of different tutorials before you set it up and i didn’t know that you had to put the outtake fully submerged into the water, would’ve been helpful if it came in the instructions honestly or maybe it’s just mine that was being weird but it doesn’t make a lot of noise just a humming noise I guess. I personally prefer it over a waterfall noise. Also it can get super messy setting it up so make sure to have a lot of rags with you and use garden scissors to cut the hoses for a clean cut. Also buy bio media before setting it up because it doesn’t come with
This filter does an amazing job. But getting it to actually prime was a major effort. Don't give up! My filter is for a red eared slider and they are notoriously dirty. Because the water level is not to the top, the sound of the outflow water hitting the tank water is extremely loud. I'm still working on that. But very happy that this works so well.
