One of my cats has long hair & being a little overweight, his self grooming is lacking. Over the last month, I noticed a few mats starting on his back, close to the tail. Got them out before too close to the skin, but then it seemed like overnight, he looked like he had porcupine quills. Numerous mats, getting out of control! After reading review after review, I decided to try the Republique Dematting Rake and it is awesome! Simon is somewhat of a baby, so my daughter started very slowly, knowing if it hurt at all, he would bolt! He wasn't overly happy because it took awhile, but the mats came out with very little pulling. The Rate Is Purreefect!

This rake works so great on my cat. If it was possible I would rate this more then a 5 star. I also bought the tangle remover spray that’s helpful too. Not done with his knots yet. Giving him a break. But his fur looks so good and I’m not even done yet.
Better than the furminator

I was skeptical about this rake for our 9 month old golden retriever who is shedding a ton this fall. He doesn't have matts in his fur per see, but he just has so much fur in general. Tried this product out on him and it was amazing at getting the undercoat of our boy. So easy to use, comfortable on the dog's skin, and really works. Highly recommend for any shedders!
This rake works great!

I was skeptical but bought this mainly for my Norwegian Forest cat. I was amazed at how well it worked! My cat doesn’t get matted fur often, but he does shed a lot. The slicker brush I was using wasn’t getting much. I gave this brush a try and got so much fur! It really gets the undercoat! I definitely recommend it for long haired cats!
NOT recommended for mat removal

This brush does indeed work well as a loose hair removing rake. However, the moment it hits even a small or loose mat it will snag and tug. I tried different techniques different times, including variations on the “picking” suggested on the packaging, all to no avail- my poor, normally patient longhaired cat was very unhappy and not a single mat had been budged. Perhaps it may work on mats on certain fur types or animal sizes. However, if you are hoping to use this for a cat with mats, DON’T. Spare yourself the waste and your cat the pain, get a regular fine-tooth comb or brush that doesn’t pull like this does.
Not for curly, cottony furred dogs

Wanted to give this a try to help detangle my pups. Their fur gets brushed every day, but still manages to get tangled and matted in some areas (I honestly don’t understand how); even when their fur is trimmed short. I wanted this to avoid any tugging and pulling, but this was surprisingly terrible. This was delivered a couple hours ago and I was so eager to use it. It got stuck in the spots that their normal brush gets through. The only way to get it out was to pull and wiggle, which is what I wanted to avoid. Unfortunately this didn’t work out for us. I’ll be returning this and continuing my search
Works Great - Destoys Mats

Tremendous! Far exceeded my expectations. My cat had major mating issues. This untangled mats in about 15 minutes. Just be careful to pick at the mat, not tug at the mat. What's amazing is my cat hates to be brushed or combed but didn't mind this tool at all. I can tell that my cat is feeling much better now that the mats are gone. I used the wide rake side to breakup the matts. Now, daily I comb him with the narrow rake side to get rid of excess fur. (This one tool has a narrow rake side and a wide rake side.) No more tangles and his fur is so soft, beautiful and matt free.

This is the best dematting tool I’ve ever used. I used it on my 18 year old cat, and it worked like a miracle. It got the loose hair and the mats without any pain(for her or me!) Where has it been all my life?? Just be sure to follow the directions.

I have a medium hair tabby. As he's gotten older his fur is matting much more often. He is easily stressed so taking him to a groomer is a whole thing. This comb got 90% of his mats out in about 20 minutes. I'm relieved my kitty has healthy looking fur again.
Didn't work for my rabbit but might work for a larger animal

I have a half-lionhead bun who couldn't handle this rake even with extreme precautions taken; I think rabbit skin is much more sensitive than that of a dog or cat and this is more likely suited to their fur. I ended up just cutting her mats out with scissors.
