What is the accuracy of this thermometer when used on a dog? e.g., what is the variation? Accuracy is + or - how many degrees off?
Answer by • Nov 08, 2019
Accuracy is tested by using a device with a known temperature. The manufacturer uses a reference body that allows them to calibrate within ASTM standards of plus or minus 0.2 degree Celsius. It will read the ear temperature of plus or minus 0.2 degree Celsius (or 0.3 degree Fahrenheit). The thermometer tip must be pointed at the horizontal canal in the dog or cats ear. The horizontal canal is the heat pocket that needs to be measured. This is accomplished by pulling the outside ear and pushing the tip so it’s snug in the ear while pointing towards the opposite jaw. If the tip is just put slightly into the ear, the temperature will read low because the vertical canal is cooled by ambient air.

How do I change the battery?
Answer by • Jul 23, 2022
Due to the fact that the Vet-Temp will need recalibration after the battery is changed, the VetTemp must be returned to Advanced Monitors Corporation for a new battery. The life span of the battery is over 20,000 temperatures, with a shelf life of up to 10 years. If the Vet-Temp were used 20 times a day, 6 days per week, the battery would last approximately 4 years. Although, more extensive thermometer usage may somewhat shorten the life of the battery
I got this to monitor my cat's temperature. He is quite feisty and it's hard to take his temp. This works in like 2 seconds so he doesn't even realize it's there! Seems very accurate too.

Worked well while it lasted
This worked well for a few months then it became so unreliable. I get very low and extremely different readings just seconds apart now. It was a lifesaver while it did work as I cannot get a rectal reading on my wiggly cat for the life of me. Her ears were warm one day along with other symptoms and I easily checked her temperature with this thermometer and found that she had a fever. Was able to get her into the vet before she got worse. Easy to use product. Just wish it lasted longer. Had it less than a year.

Don't waste your time
I read the reviews and I still took my chances. The batteries came dead, so it does not work....and you can not replace them. Now I have to figure out how to return the item. What a waste of my time!

Doesn’t work
Didn’t know until it was too late that it didn’t work. Tried to check if my cat had a temp based on other symptoms before taking her to the vet as an emergency. Wouldn’t register at all. I’ve only had this about six months. Cat ended up having a high temp and had to be hospitalized. I also foster kittens/cats and wanted to have this as a less invasive way to make sure fragile kitties were okay. Waste of money.

Fast and Accurate
Checked it against a rectal thermometer and it's accurate. Very easy to operate.

Pretty good
It works ok but you cannot get the previous reading as it says you can. At least when I try to pull it up, it shows "Lo" and will not give me another number for comparison. Also it is a little harder to get the covers on the tip without ripping them. Be very gentle.

Fast and Accurate Temp Reading
My older dog had been running fevers for several months off and on. I didn't want to give him vet recommended prescription unless I was sure about the level of his fever. This thermometer got him through a rough time. Very accurate only a couple of seconds and it reads the temperature. So much better than a rector one.

Doesn't Work.
I was so excited to order a non-rectal thermometer to keep tabs on my dogs and cat, but this product doesn't work. No matter how many times I tried or different angles I attempted, it kept giving me error messages.

Waste of money
The battery died in under a month and it cannot be replaced unless you send it to the manufacturer. Who thought this was a good idea?
