Best Job Ever: Vet Clinic is Looking for a Cat Cuddler

What did you want to be when you were growing up? An astronaut? A pop star? A cat cuddler? While you may not be able to head into space or perform at the Grammys any time soon, you can make a career out of hugging cute kitties.

Just Cats Veterinary Clinic & Cattery in Dublin, Ireland has recently listed a job posting for a full-time Cat Cuddler.

The position requires applicants with a natural ability to read a cat’s moods and the instincts to keep them calm and happy in any given situation to ensure they get the optimal veterinary experience.

The job post asks possible candidates questions like, “Does petting cats make you feel warm and fuzzy?” and “Are you a crazy cat person and loves cats?” It’s basically a dream come true for anyone who can answer both with an emphatic “Yes!”

Dr. Aoife Caulfield, the head veterinary surgeon of Just Cats Veterinary Clinic, says that cat cuddling is a major part of the clinic’s work, and as their business expands, they need a caring, driven person to ensure the cats feel comfortable. “We feel that we need another assistant to maximize the cats well being,” she says.

The job listing has, unsurprisingly, received hundreds of resumes from cat-friendly, adaptable people looking to spend their days comforting kitties.

While the position (which also includes general clinic duties like cleaning and assisting in various tasks) is in high demand, Caulfield says that the ideal person for the job is “someone with a quiet manner who is calm and relaxed, even in a high pressure environment.”

The job isn’t just a high-demand one, it’s also a very important one.

“Research shows that cats are not well engaged with their healthcare providers,” Caulfield says. “By helping the cat and the owner to be as relaxed and comfortable as possible when they come to visit, we give our patients the best chance of receiving high quality healthcare and continuing to engage with us.”
