Dog pen pros and cons
I purchased the Petmate dog pen to contain my dog at campsites. The size is adequate to put a crate mat down and food/water bowl. Light weight easy to handle only 17lbs however it’s flimsy not like pens purchased in the past. For this reason I had the dog on a cable inside the pen. So why the pen? He’s an active dog so At least this way he wasn’t getting tangled on the cable and had some space to move around I wouldn’t trust a dog to be contained in this pen unless the dog was very passive/inactive or hooked to a cable also- I had the cable attached to a very heavy picnic table so the dog knew he wasn’t going anywhere
Nice size but flimsy
I am disappointed with the quality of the panels. It's a great size and design but not sturdy.
Great barrier
We use this to increase the fencing on our 2nd story patio and to gate off the kitchen. For both purposes, it works well. We do not use this as a pen nor would we.
it’ll do
This pen is fine for a dog with low energy, but it’s a bit too lightweight for true containment. It doesn’t stay put when my pup is jumping against the panels. Go with a heavy duty pen for training.

Have several sections of this fence, and have used it for a long time. Good quality-- nice to use since it folds every 2', and stores very nicely when not being used.

Wish I had purchased this earlier in the puppy stages. This is a useful containment system inside the house. Very pleased with this purchase.
Love this wire pen
I love this wire pen. I bought five that I link together to create a bigger enclosure. They are very light and easy to take with me when I am visiting family, and I am able set up an enclosure for my mini schnauzer almost anywhere.
Great for chewers
I purchased this as a replacement for a plastic one that my puppy chewed his way through. It has been holding up great! I should be able to use it for many more years!
Good pen for the price..
For the price, I honestly didn’t have high expectations for this pen. I mainly needed something for inside the house until our puppy is better house trained and can be trusted to roam freely without me hovering. This is perfect for him to have a designated space when I am preoccupied with other things in the house. I love how easy it is to fold up and move, if I need to clean the floors or if we want to spend an evening out in the yard. I also love that it includes the ground stakes for anchoring outside. Our pup is a very small breed (mini schnauzer, yorkie mix) so he isn’t able to scoot this around inside the house (we have hard floors) and the stakes aren’t necessary for him outside either. Overall I am extremely pleased with this purchase, for our particular circumstances! But I will say for those with a larger/stronger breed this is flimsy and it’s not meant to be used as a full-time kennel.
