  • Great Crate/Kennel for the Price

    By on

This crate/kennel was easy to assemble and is easy to transport. It is sturdy and a great value for the price. My only complaint is that even though the XL size was tall/had good head height, the inside floor space is pretty narrow. See picture below for comparison; the top gray/black crate is the one we recently purchased from Chewy and the tan one below is a much older model we bought years ago. The older model is easier for our 65# German Shepherd to turn around in.

  • Good kennel/Great price

First let me say, I have big, sturdy, powerful dogs. Chihuahuas....ok...not really. Rottweilers, but I know Chihuahuas think they are bigger than anyone (gotta love that attitude). Anyway, I have an extra large Petmate model from maybe 15 years ago and it is huge, heavy, expensive and the MOST WELL MADE KENNEL IN THE WORLD. It's "raised up" 3 big beautiful Rotties, including my current 5 year old best friend, without one scratch, bent door wire or any other issue. Petmate should get me to do a commercial!! So now I have a 4 month old little girl and she's too big for the puppy crate and too small for a full size. I went looking for a Petmate crate hoping they had one with a divider....and the Navigator model was exactly what I was looking for. I was wondering if I would be able to assemble it by myself - not mechanically inclined - but it turns out I didn't have to worry about that. As long as you have the right level of expectation for this product you will not be disappointed. The crate came with straightforward instructions and all the parts I needed. It went together with perfect ease - every hole lined up, every bolt and nut was accounted for and in about 20 minutes I had it completely assembled and ready for use. Things to know...this crate is plastic. It's not the thick hard molded plastic of my old kennel. It is lighter and the plastic is thinner with a little bit of give - by no means sloppy or bendable, just not hard as concrete either. Overall the crate is slightly more narrow than I expected, but the height is exactly the same as my old one. I think that for the price, this crate with do just fine for the life of my baby girl...but only time will tell. It's for potty training now, and will be her chill space as she grows. If you own an "escape artist" like a husky, for example, you'd want a much more substantial crate. … more

  • Manufacturing defect

    By on

Well, as you can see in the posted pictures, we ended up with a crate that had a manufacturing defect. Because of this, the two pieces would not slide and lock together, rendering the product worthless. However, because we needed the crate to go get our new puppy the next day, my husband used a box cutter to try to fix the defect instead of shipping it back. It took a while and it's not pretty now, but it is safe and able to be used. Now that we are using it, the crate is fine. But, I would not recommend the product due to quality control issues.

  • Good Crate & Good Value

    By on

I bought this crate for my 3 year old golden retriever and the size is perfect. He has room to sit up, turn around, lay down and relax comfortably. Easy to clean and pretty sturdy. In my search for a good quality crate that did not break the bank, most crates this size are nearly $100, or more so I was happy to find this one for the price.

  • Misrepresented

My son, who is in the military moved to HI, his 2 dogs could not go when he did, due to shot requirements. He ordered 2 kennels for their future flight, the description said they had nuts and bolts for air travel. This is not true, we drove 2 1/2 hours to the airport just to find out the kennels are not approved also they require metal hardware. The dogs missed their flight, we had to purchase 2 more kennels drive back to the airport to catch a late night flight pay an extra $188 since now the dogs had to stay overnight at their connecting flight, all of this because of a description on your site!

  • Great but not for airlines

    By on

I love this product. The dogs took a nap in each of theirs once i got their bedding in. BUT this was for a move by airlines. I was told the holes on the bottom half was Now unacceptable. I had to buy theirs and leave these beautiful ones behind. So these are WONDERFUL but do not try to fly with them.

  • Dissapointed

    By on

I needed a crate that my 8 month old German Shepherd could not push out of. I had a medium one that she never escaped from. However she bent the door to a wire one and this one and escaped. She wreaked havoc in the house while I was asleep. Sadly this one did not keep her secure either.

  • Awesome kennel!

    By on

I love that this kennel slides together with all the little pieces that go with it, which always seem to get lost. The kennel is true to size and very sturdy. Would definitely buy another one. Also had a great sale so got it for a great price!

  • what you get for the price

    By on

It is one of the lower priced kennels--- and as everyone here says--- the nuts and bolts are there but they are not aligned so i also had issues with assembly... i had to forcefully bend and push and all kinds of acrobatics to get it to work... but for 26 dollars i guess this is what you get????? If i were to do it again, i would choose something better.... and pay a little more for it!!

  • Just Didn't Work

    By on

I guess I'm one of the unlucky 3% who couldn't get this Petmate medium kennel to work for me. On paper it appears to be a breeze to assemble, but after numerous exasperating attempts, I figured I had better things to do with my time. Even when it seemed that the top and bottom halves were aligned properly, the holes for the securing bolts did not line up. On the first attempt that looked right, one of the plastic "locking latches" broke. I figured that since the kennel has two on the back end, I could live with that--if I could get everything else squared away. Except that on my next try, the second "locking latch" snapped as well. Still--just to avoid the return process, if those bolt I guess I'm one of the unlucky 3% who couldn't get this Petmate medium kennel to work for me. All the hassles aside, there's one more issue that one should consider before buying this kennel. If you have a "difficult" pet to transport, if your veterinarian needs to examine your pet within the confines of this transport/kennel, necessitating removal of the top portion, it's going to be a struggle. While the top and bottom portions do separate, performing that operation might not be very easy for your vet. Bolts would have to be removed. The door needs to be removed. The top portion is likely to give the doctor fits during both removal and replacement. Bottom line, this item might be more bother than it's worth. … more
