I have used a lot of water bowls over the years and, even with filters, the water always was dirty. I’ve scrubbed them, changed the filters… everything.. still dirty! Then, dah! Dah! I’ve finally found the water bowl of my dreams! The bottle comes out easily and I always fill with cold water! Best water bowl ever!!
We got this waterer for our 2 large size dogs so I wasn’t refilling a bowl twice a day. In do like how much water the jug holds. I do not like that the bowl part doesn’t fill very much. My dogs will barely touch it when there isn’t enough water in until dish . I first thought maybe the filter was preventing the water from filling more so I removed it and nothing change. I understand it locks the flow when the water reached the jug lid but less than an inch of the bowl will have water before that happen. So I’m still back to filling the bowl for them once a day or lifting the jug to not sit properly just so they can have enough water for the 2 of them after a long play session.
I thought that filling and flipping the water bottles was going to be more difficult than it was. After the first refill, however, I decided to remove the padded filters and the plastic guard which held them in place. The plastic guard was difficult to insert in the first place. Sam and Chip were apprehensive at first, but they soon figured out how the water bottles work.
The water doesn’t flow readily and I had to keep tilting it to make certain that the bowl would fill adequately. The most frustrating thing about this is that I was unable to get the water reservoir off the base to refill, and basically had to take the thing apart at the base to do so. Very sorry I bought this product and advise others not to waste their money.
Weirdly, the bowl will empty but the reservoir will still have a large amount of water in it. It’s completely ineffective, there’s no apparent reason why this would happen.
The base is 2 parts and if bumped water splashes out under the upper part. Also when you pick it up to change out the water, water spills out. When you turn over the water jug, the water also spills out through the filter. it is made poorly.
I have 5 of these for my 5 cats. I reserve using these large waterers for when I'm away, like more than a day. It fills slowly, but I don't see that as a negative aspect at all. It's not like the pets have not had any water and are solely relying on these waterers. It immediately fills to about 1/4 of the bowl and then slowly fills to about 3/4. Which, for my purposes, is plenty to go around. I read about complaints that they're heavy and spill water everywhere. Of course 4 gallons of water will be heavy. And almost all waterers will spill, just that 4 gallons will spill more. I used the waterers will the carbon filter included and there was no water output issue. This is a good product for what I use them for. They're not the sole source of water and is a good backup supply of water.
I removed the charcoal filter and even put it on a tilt to try to get air in and it doesn't bubble out unless I sit there and tilt it back and forth or jiggle it. I am not home a lot and this was supposed to make sure they always have water and it's not working.
Automatic waterer insures my dogs alway have water no mater what. I keep the waterer full.
What can I say about a water tower? This one replace a too large one that has been fine
