I realize that having 16 dogs is a tad outside the scope of most households, but even with only half that, keeping water bowls filled was a daily task. With two of these, I only have to address their water twice a week now. Between the 4ga jug and the 1ga base, they are a real time saver. The only negative that needs to be considered, is that 4ga of water is roughly 35lbs, and combined with the smooth sides of the jug, it can be quite a challenge to reposition onto the base, without a bit of a mess. Clearly not a solution for everyone, but I can say without hesitation, that I really appreciated their volume, over the smaller ones.
Purchased this bowl to replace a fountain one thinking the simplicity of a gravity water bowl would be easier to maintain. After washing the bowl, filter, and bottle I filled it and waited. And waited... and waited. The filter is a great idea, but it is so dense that the water seeps out into the bowl very little at a time. I ended up just pouring water from a pitcher into the bowl. Maybe if I take the filter completely out the water will fill the bowl. Disappointed with this purchase.
I bought these because we have multiple dogs in the house and didn't want to refill the water bowl so often. We had other larger, but because I wanted 2 for different rooms, I thought I would go a litte smaller. We donated the others to a shelter. They came with a filter that does not allow water to flow through.....we thought. We took the filter out and the bowl still would not fill. The opening sits too close to the bottom of the bowl and does not allow the water to escape. Bad design. Guess we need to purchase the larger old ones like we had.
Unfortunately how you put the water jug back on is heavy and messy. Be prepared to have a towel handy. It works the same as other pet water dispensers but due to the weight its not as easy as the smaller models. Now you have a heavy water bowl that gets mucked up easy and no way to clean it vs picking the whole dispenser up to dump whats in the bowl or you will have a bigger mess separating them when filled. I may just use it outside and go back to bowls inside that way it won’t matter. Plus my dog likes to play lets see how much water he can displace, so there that ha.
I’ve had this waterer for a few months and I tried to give it the benefit of doubt but it truly does NOT dispense water unless you tilt the entire thing on its side. Doesn’t matter if the filter is in or not - water does NOT come out of the bottom of the tank and instead trickles out of the very tiny holes on the sides of it (which only works if the thing is turned on it’s side) just a horrible design and I’m disappointed I spent money on this for it to be useless.
There is a design flaw in this waterer, it does not dispense water at all, even when levels should indicate it. Even removing the filter does not result in water being dispensed.
LOVE the water filter design, I’m one where I’m not a fan of giving my dogs just straight sink water so having the filter gives me some piece of mind. However, I’m not a fan of how the jug doesn’t at least have a handle on it to help flip it over when its filled. Having the 4 gallon size and not being able to flip it makes me feel silly. I’m considering going to the step down sized gallon cause I know I’ll be able to flip it over.
We bought this waterer because of the microban qualities and the amount of water it holds. the major problem is the water bowl never gets more than an inch of water in it unless I tip it forward. We have a Lab mix dog and a cat. Neither of them could get enough water. I took out the filter and still didn't work. I changed the lid on the tank to the one off our old waterer and it works now. Just sad to spend that money on something that I had to improvise.
There is no vent to allow more flow. Water bowl will be empty with a full tank. Might as well chop the top of the tank off and just fill it up as it gets empty.
This is perfect for those puppy chewing days or multi house dogs. The base is thick and bottle is very large. This item would be better if it came in a stainless steel base. Bought two and will need one more.
