Carrier is Okay, but the Top Door is Very Aggravating
I didn't have any assembly issues (as others have expressed) but it wasn't until the Carrier was fully assembled that I spotted the issue with the Top Door. And when I was using it for our cats, the issue became very apparent. The problem is - the top door only opens just slightly past 90-degrees....a very poor design. Any bumping of the carrier while trying to put your pet into it can cause the top door to fall / close. Or, as you attempt to load your cat or dog into the carrier with their feet / legs flailing around, they can also easily hit the door and cause it to close before you get your pet inside. So then you have to put your pet down and hold them with one hand, while you try to open the top door with your other hand. The whole idea of the top door is to make it easier to put your pet inside the carrier and this kennel does a poor job with that aspect. Ideally, the door should open about 135 degrees so that it doesn't accidentally close while loading your pet. Having a door that opens too far (say, 180 degrees) can be an issue too since you might need to close the door quickly to contain your pet.....but given the choice, I'd rather have it open all the way. The rest of the kennel seems fine, the latches seem secure and fairly easy to operate. But had I known about the top door issue, I would not have purchased this carrier.
Poor door design
I bought this thinking it would make it easier to kind of surprise load my reluctant kitty into the top. The problem is the top door basically won't stay open unless you're actively holding it. Technically it does, but it's nearly vertical, meaning if you so much as look at it funny it will close - never mind the slightest vibration or god forbid a cat getting loaded. It comes down prematurely and basically just gets in the way. Extremely disappointing. I wish I could find a carrier with similar design but better execution.
This carrier is made of cheap plastic and the hardware is cheap. I had a hard time putting it together because nothing was lining up right. The threads on the top screws (metal) and bottom bolts (plastic) were off. The holes in the plastic where you insert the screws were poorly drilled, with burrs. I've bought Petmate products in the past that were of very good quality. You all have gone downhill. I will not be buying your products in the future. I am returning this carrier.
Great Crate, (Cat carrier)
My cats went right in there, The one I got it for actually stayed in there and was looking up through the top, The old one I had she could not do that, And that makes her happy to be able to see what's around her. I haven't used it yet, but a trip to the nail groomer is coming up so we shall see if she still likes the top load idea, she only used to fuss getting in there not the driving in the car. Update will follow..
Firstly, I've tried several brands of hard carriers and they all fell short compared to PetMate . I trust them to hold my cats securely to and from the vet. I especially like the no frills front and top door as the door fits securely in the holes. For added security I use zip ties instead of the hardware included as they can loosen over time. I just wish the selection of colors were all the same price.
Don’t waste your money
It took me 30 minutes to put this together because none of the screws fit in the holes. The holes were too small. I had to take a screwdriver and make the holes bigger so bolts would fit. Even the top section doesn’t close good because holes are too small. Guess why that’s why it was on sale. Additionally it says for dog 10-20 pounds. I would hate to see a 20 pound dog in this crate. My dog is 11 pounds and barely fits.
Great Smaller Crate
I ordered this crate after reading many reviews. This is a quality crate, easy to assemble, love the lid opening, and it easily fits on the back seat of an Insight, (small car). It fits my 20 lb mix pup but due to its small size took a bit of treats to tempt him in. He does fit and can turn around and likes it now. It saves the car from sand and salt after our short daily beach run.
Good but awkward to carry
It was easy to assemble but I’m wondering if I should have gone with the small size. I used it to transport two kittens to/from the vet. However, it’s awkward to carry and I don’t think the plastic handle will last forever. Not sure how it will go as the cats get older and heavier.
Two Door Pet Kennel
This was purchased as a BD gift for my daughter. She has a cat and in the past, always borrows mine. Nothing is better for transporting your pet. Easy to clean, easy to get your pet into and secure as well. I think it is a must have when you have cats.
Good seems sturdy
Bought this as a Replacement for my old top loading kennel. Seems sturdy. I don’t like that the carry handle is on the door (so all the weight is working to spring that door open). But that being said, it’s definitely better built than other similar carriers. I do wish it had a quick release system for cleaning as opposed to the 8+ screws!!!
