Anyone: How big did you cut the hole in your door?

The opening will be 7.5 x 7 7/8 Inches. Measure the pet door against the door you want to install it in, drill a hole at each corner, and cut out the outline.
Do I need to buy the installation kit with this?

This cat door does not include an installation kit and will need to be purchased separately. The installation kit for this door is listed on Chewy's website as "PetSafe Pet Door Installation Kit".
What are the outside dimensions?

Fine without the flap

Just had mine installed by a handyman after hearing about a friend's bad experience installing it herself. Tried coaxing my cat through it, but when she tried on her own her front left paw immediately got stuck between the frame and the flap. I had to free her from it and immediately removed the flap. Very glad I was home to help her and remedy this immediately.

Just okay. Wouldn’t purchase again

There are some faults. The lock piece pops off all the time, which we have now lost deeming it worthless. The one side of the border of the door doesn’t screw on it pops in, so if you have a larger animal peeking in, they will pull it off when they pull their head out. We will probably end up getting a different one.

Manufacturers forgot screws

Door itself looks very good. Haven’t been able to install it due to the fact that they forgot to pack the screws. Trying to find screws that will fit

They don't have the magnet door closer anymore

I was disappointed because I use these for cat houses on cedar chests for feral TNR cats. They used to have magnetic pieces on the doors so they dont swing back and forth with a breeze. I ordered the same doors and they no longer have the magnets. The space where the magnets are supposed to go are still there, but no longer supply the magnets. Petsafe says they stopped making them with the magnets which allows the doors to swing back and forth with any breeze at all.

Works well

This is the third door of this kind that I have installed. My cat was bound and determined to escape outdoors and broke the first one by running at it hard. The latch on the second one broke after both cats learned to push it to the side and finally wore it out. Other than breaking periodically, it works well. Each one has lasted 3-4 years with heavy use by determined cats.

Good door but no magnet

I bought this to replace one I’ve used for years as my cat broke the flap. Was surprised to find no magnet on this one. It needs one!!

Great for indoor use

We use this for the basement door and closet door (where her litter box is stored). Yes, there is a gap if you have a hollow-core door with the decorative insets. We used white caulk to fill the gaps, no big deal. It's perfect for what we needed - allows our cat to go up and down the stairs so we can keep the door closed to keep the kids safe, but we can also lock it if we need to keep the cat on one floor. We didn't have any issues using the stencil to cut the door. It does make a little noise when she goes in/out, but it's plastic-on-plastic so there's not much that can be done to make it more quiet. I've had this in our house for a little over a year now and it is still great.
