The user, prior to installation, must become familiar with all building codes that may affect the installation of the pet door and determine, along with a licensed contractor, its suitability in a given installation. This pet door is not a fire door. It is important for the owner and contractor to consider any risks that may be present inside or outside of the pet door, and any risks that may be created by subsequent changes to your property and how they may relate to the existence and use, including misuse, of the pet door.
Lift and hold or tape the flap open using string to help your pet become familiar with the pet door opening. MAKE SURE TAPED FLAP IS SECURE AND WILL NOT FALL DURING TRAINING.
Try to encourage your pet to come through the pet door. DO NOT FORCE your pet through the door or they may become frightened.
Give your pet motivation to use the door, such as to reach food. First, feed your pet close to the pet door on the inside. Once your pet is comfortable approaching the door, move food to the other side to try to get your pet to go through the door.
After your pet has used the pet door a few times, hold the flaps open and try to get your pet to go through door while gently lowering flaps so the flap touches your pet’s back. This will help your pet become familiar with the flap.
Encourage your pet to push through the flap on his own.
Installation Step 1: Measure Your Door Frame
Before purchasing any Freedom® Patio Panel Pet Door, you need to determine the height of your sliding glass door frame opening. Measure from the highest point in the upper door track to the lowest point in the lower door track.
Installation Step 2: Install the Patio Panel
If you purchased a 96" Patio Panel, first assemble the bottom section to the top section before proceeding with the installation.
Remove the 4 factory installed screws from the sides of the connection bars on the bottom door section.
Align and slide the connection bars on the bottom section into the top section.
Reinstall and tighten the 4 screws through the 4 pre-drilled holes on the sides of the top door section into the connection bars.
The Freedom Patio Panel Pet Door inserts into the opening in your sliding glass door against the doorjamb. Your sliding door will close against the Patio Panel.
With the sliding glass door open, insert the top of the Patio Panel with the height adjuster into the upper door track on the interior side of the sliding glass door.
Lift up and position the bottom of the Patio Panel into the lower door track on the interior side of the sliding glass door. Ensure the side of the Patio Panel showing the flap screw heads is on the interior side of your sliding glass door.
Move the Patio Panel against the doorjamb. The Patio Panel should fit flush against the doorjamb without any gaps. Make sure the height adjuster is fully extended and not tilted to one side. Ensure you are satisfied with the fit of the Patio Panel before drilling.
Installation Step 3: Attach the Patio Panel
Slide the Patio Panel out slightly from the door jamb to show the pre-drilled holes in the height adjuster.
Drill 7/64” (2.5 mm) holes through the two pre-drilled holes on the interior side of the height adjuster.
Secure the height adjuster to the Patio Panel using two 5/8” sheet metal screws.
Slide the Patio Panel back against the door jamb making sure it's flush without any gaps.
To install the Patio Panel into an exposed sliding glass door frame, find the Patio Panel center at the top and mark on the sliding glass door frame.
Measure 12” from the top down along the side of the sliding glass door frame and mark.
Measure 1” above the pet door in the Patio Panel and mark on the sliding glass door frame.
Measure the center of the Patio Panel at the bottom and mark on the sliding glass door frame.
Drill 9/64” (3.5 mm) clearance holes through your sliding glass door frame only at the locations you just marked. Don't drill into the patio panel at this time.
Before drilling into the Patio Panel, it's important not to drill inside the Patio Panel rib lines where the glass is located. Only drill into the outer edge section. You may need to slide the Patio panel over slightly to correct before drilling.
Installation Step 4: Install the Lock
Close the sliding glass door tightly against the Patio Panel and decide the most convenient height to place the door latch.
Using the template provided, align a vertical center line on the template with the door line between the sliding glass door and the Patio Panel. Keep the latch side of the template to the right.
Tape the template in place and mark the locations for the mounting screws. Remove the template when the screw marks are in place.
Drill four 7/64” (2.5 mm) holes. Don't drill completely through to the other side of the sliding glass door or Patio Panel.
Secure the latch and keeper with four 3/4” flat head sheet metal screws. Be careful not to overtighten.
Installation Step 5: Install Glass Sweep and Weather Stripping
The glass sweep should be installed on the back edge of the sliding glass door to form a seal between the sliding glass door and the stationary glass door.
The weather stripping should be installed on the front edge of the sliding glass door to form a seal between the Freedom Patio Panel and the sliding glass door.
Close the sliding glass door against the Patio Panel. Clean and dry the back edge of the sliding glass door.
Position the glass sweep at the top glass edge with the flexible part touching the glass of the stationary door.
Carefully peel away the backing and press the glass sweep in place as you move down to the bottom of the door. Trim any excess with scissors.
Open the sliding glass door. Clean and dry the front edge of the sliding glass door.
Position the weather stripping at the top front edge toward the interior side.
Carefully peel away the backing and press the weather stripping into place as you move down to the bottom of the door. Trim any excess with scissors.

The sealing strip does not work, I think the glue is expired, the strip did not last even 1 hour attached, very poor quality this one says 3M. I will look for a solution for the noise and insulation.
This product is amazing! It was fairly easy to install, though it does involve drilling through the door frame. It is very sturdy and high quality, and fits great in our floor to ceiling slider.
Our puppy is very happy to have a dog door and loves using it. I would definitely have preferred to have a dog door through the wall, but there isn't a good place to put one in our walls, so the sliding door insert was our best option. This dog door fits our sliding door pretty decently with a good amount of room to walk through still. The install was actually a little bit trickier than I expected, but now that it's done it is fine. You definitely need to use the anchoring screws, otherwise it's way too flimsy. The universal lock is kind of annoying that you have to bend down to the floor to lock the door, but it's better than nothing I suppose. I wish this kit came with weather striping for where the sliding door meets this insert. We bought our own and added it so that we get a better seal. I also wish there were more color options for this size dog door. Our sliding door is tan so we spray painted the dog door insert to match before we installed it. Overall, this is a good option for the cheaper route and I feel like we are getting our moneysworth.
When installing make sure the door slides into the tracks. I have an older sliding door and it does not fit the door into the side smoothly. Left a bit of a gap that I had to use weather stripping to seal followed by brackets to secure. Lock does not work and have to modify latch.
Unfortunately, this product came in defective. The side rails were misaligned making it impossible to put together. The screws only lined up on one side due to this misaligned metal on the corner.
It's a dog door, functional and fit in the space. However it left large gaps next to the door, lets water in during storms, and wind can easily blow the dog flap open.
Chewy has been great. The door, ..., not so much. There was an air gap between the panel and the bottom of our sliding glass door. I had to remove portions of our sliding glass door in order to close the door, and it was still ill-fitting. The rubber sliding glass door gasket would only work on a sliding glass door without a frame, so it added more gaps. Chewy was great about accepting a return, but the product junk.
Who knew you could have an older doggie door? There is a sweeper strip which goes on the sliding door and the adhesive was old and wouldn't stick. besides that its a great door
Excellent product. Easy to instal. Arrived on time. My cats love it.
The door is a great but I have two great Danes 6 months old and they couldn't fit through the door. But the door is great quality that's why I gave only 3 stars
