Can (or should) the harness be left on all the time? Our 100lb dog is having knee surgery and it seems like taking the rear harness on and off multiple times a day would be painful for her and difficult for us. Thank you
Answer by ChewyJun 20, 2018
When using the Rear-Only version, the dog harness must be attached to the dog for each use. However, when using the full-body (front+rear) configuration, the dog harness can be comfortably worn for long periods, making it easy to assist your dog without the hassle of installing the harness each time it’s needed.

Is the material for this harness fairly soft or stiff? Is it padded for comfort? I have purchased several different lifts and most do not seem comfortable enough to keep on my Boxer with DM. If this one isn't of the softer more comfortable kind can you recommend one that is for my male Boxer?
Answer by ChewyMay 29, 2018
The harness does have padding at the chest, neck, abdomen and hips.

Will this aid to go down stairs also, along with up?
Answer by ChewyJul 14, 2018
The Solvit CareLift Full Front & Back Lifting Aid Mobility Dog Harness is excellent for assisting pets up stairs, into vehicles, and onto furniture who are unable to move easily.

Is this able to be put on quickly ?
Answer by ChewyMay 18, 2018
This harness has to be fastened in the front and back. How quickly it can be put on depends on the pet and the owner.

Can't get it fitted right

I was really hoping this would work for my 12yr old gsd. She needs assistance standing up and walking up or down stairs. There is too much slack between the chest-to back-to hips. No matter how many times I readjust the straps, either the front or the back becomes too loose. My girl is long, tall and lean so after reading the other reviews on this product, I was certain this belt would fit her just right. Very disappointed.

Old Dog Helper

This harness works great getting our 90# labradoodle in and out of our SUV. We keep the front harness in all the time and use it for getting her up stairs or from sitting when she is sore or stiff. Make a 2 person lift super easy and 1 person lift manageable.

Very helpful

This has been great for short potty breaks when I don't want to put him in his wheelchair. I had some difficulty using this at first but it was all user error on my part. It has made things a lot easier for me and my pup.

Seems to work fine

I have a big, deep-bodied German shepherd female so ordered the large size as per the size guidelines. The straps could be more customizable. The front portion of the harness will not tighten up enough but the rear (where she needs the support most) fits fine. I like the "butt" straps which alot of the other lift harnesses don't have. Also, not sure why they have mega heavy-duty clips that weigh about 6 ounces a piece to simply clip the front and back portions of the harness together along the back. They are overly big and clunky laying on my dog's back.

Worst harness

This harness is very complicated, and the fit is bad.

difficulty with sizing, not enough padding

This harness is okay if you can't find anything else. I had trouble with the fit for my 65-pound husky mix. He is ill and currently underweight, but I ordered a size large initially because of the size chart. The rear harness, however, was too big. Chewy was so kind as to give me a refund and allow me to keep the harness to donate to my local rescue. I then ordered a size medium, but unfortunately, the medium was too small in the hips. This might have been okay, except the leg straps don't have any padding to protect his skin from chafing. This was another feature I thought was lacking in this harness. My dog would have to wear this harness 24 hours a day in definitely and comfort is very important. I felt so bad about returning the first harness that I just kept the medium and didn't ask for a refund. The emergency hospital that took care of my dog sold us a different harness that was much better quality.

Buying the Help Em Up Harness now

Before I spent $100+ on the Help Em Up Harness, I wanted to give this one a shot. I didn't have a good experience. In the process of returning this, and about to buy the real thing. Let it be noted that I know how to properly fit a dog harness. *PROS*: 1.) Enabled me to assist my senior dog up the stairs. It gave her confidence, which was absolutely wonderful to witness. *CONS*: 1.) The rear harness had a strange fitment. It felt too tight around her legs, but it fit fine under her stomach. It kept shifting to one side, and I would move the straps before she pooped. After a few days, the rear harness started to stink. Strange foul yet sweet odor. Took the rear harness off and the smell went away. 2.) Front harness stayed on for about 2 weeks. The fit was weird. In order not to shift to one side, it had to be very tight. Ended up aggravating her skin. Just took it off her. 3.) The connecting strap is very bulky. Large metal buckles. When she laid against the wall, the buckles would hit the wall and make noise. Not a big deal, but it's worth mentioning.

Well made ,measure for size

This was well made I had no issues of it falling apart like mentioned in other reviews Made it easier to help my Geriatric dog in and out of the house. Size was perfect for back end though large for front but still worked Only used this for a short time as he passed away suddenly. Would recommend this product

Not All Dogs Accept

Maybe I waited too late to try this harness but it put my dog into major panic mode when attempting to put it on her. She is 15 and is not used to wearing a collar or harness. Her harness is worn for outings and walks in the past so not something we do regularly. So trying to even get it on her was so frightening for her. She is 15 and losing all muscle in her hind legs. I bought this to help me pick her up since I have back issues. Wish I could return it now.

Does not provide hip support

All of the pictures of this product show a band going under the hips. That band is only for male dogs though as a penis protector. There is no actual hip support for lifting if your dog is female. The metal buckles also make the product very heavy for your dog, and clank around.
