One of my cats loves drinking from the faucet, and this fountain is the best one I have found to replicate that feel for her. We have a 2-story house and she will walk upstairs to use this fountain even if she is downstairs and closer to our other fountain and water bowl. My other cat has grown to love this too. He’s…. Not so bright. It took him a while to learn that he’s not supposed to bite the water. But now that he’s figured that out he also drinks from it frequently. It’s easy to fill, clean and access. My favorite fountain I’ve used.
This is not the only Drinkwell we have. I bought a second so every week I cold put one in the dishwasher and fill the other for Fizz and Marigold. Marigold especially likes to drink out of the flowing water. It is certainly better than water bows. My cats lie the bubbling sound; it attracts them. They also like the flowing water; it tastes better. (We use filtered water.) You must keep it clean. Buy a little brush to clean the motor. (You obviously can't put that in the dishwasher, but everything else, yes. Change the sponge when it starts to look yucky. It's higher maintenance than a bowl, but I think the cats drink more from it. I like the ceramic model because it stays cleaner.
We bought this item for our elder cats with kidney disease. They LOVE it! The moving water attracts them and I like that I'm providing them with a moving water experience like their ancestors may have had in the wild...enticing and satisfying. To extend the life of the pump and keep the water fresh (and reduce build up of cat spit) I change the water daily. Unplug, move to sink, remove top (wash with soapy water), empty bottom (wash with plain water), put top back on, put in place, fill with water (kept in nearby pitcher) and then plug in. It takes 4 minutes. Then I change the filters as recommended. I had a plastic one of these before and this one is much better as the ceramic gleams. I am very pleased and so are the cats!
I've had a couple of different pet fountains. They all either get gross and have a lot of parts to clean, or are difficult to put back together, or both. This one has parts that are dishwasher safe but they actually wipe clean really easy and the foam filter housing keeps hair and debris from clogging the filter. It also doesn't need a lot of futzing to get back together, just put the top down on top of the spigot. My two cats, house rabbit and dog all equally drink from it. It is also very quiet. If other fountains have bothered you for the reasons above in the past, this one is a much better option. It may be too small for a large dog but it's good for small dogs and cats.
The motor is a little bit louder than I thought it would be (no louder than my ceiling fan though). My cats love drinking out of the sink so I thought this would be a great alternative and it is! There was a little bit of a learning curve but they love it now.
It worked fine and sounded like a fountain, which was a nice trickle but all my animals would not drink from it. They all went back to the silver dish. Lab, Yorkie and the cat. I was bummed. My daughter has a new puppy that loved it, so I gave it to her. It was smaller than I thought for the lab.
While this Fountain cost more than I wanted to pay, it checked all the boxes for what I was looking for: right size, it's sturdy, it's super easy to refill and clean, and it's very sleek looking. My cat loves it, however, my dog still hasn't used it. But he hasn't drank from anything inside in years, so I'm not giving up hope yet!
I got this water fountain back in October of last year I clean it once a week ever since I got this water fountain and it just stoped working for some reason this is not the only water fountain that has stopped working in only a little period of time I’ve had it!
Have used this type for 15 or more years...by far the best one on the market....Easy to clean, quiet compared to others
So far this has been the best fountain I have ever bought. I am really hopefully the pump works for a long time.
