What are the size of the holes?

There are 3 holes in this toy, and each are oval-shaped. They are 1 inch wide, and ¾ inches tall. The egg slides side-to-side to expose the holes, so they can make the hole smaller if needed for small kibble or treats.
Does this unscrew and open up for cleaning?

This toy is not weighted at the bottom. Having an egg-shaped food dispenser will likely roll in a manner that is less predictable for your pet.

Great but fragile

I use for my 2 cats to ration their dry food and force a little exercise. It lasted for about a year until eventually they rolled it down the stairs and the plastic around the part that screws broke off. Technically it’s still functional but any day now the rest of it will snap off and it will pop open allowing them to free feed on the entire serving, which will be a glorious day for them. I will probably order another. Pros - the top twists off so easy to clean and refill, hole size is adjustable for different sized foods. Rolls decently. Cons - hard plastic is fragile. Sometimes hard to twist on evenly.

It finally worked!

I purchased this Egg-Cersizer several months ago in the hopes of spreading out the tiny amount of food that my cats are allowed to have. I also wanted to provide them with some entertainment. My cats are both 4 years old, so I wasn't sure if it would work and at first my fears were confirmed: the cats could not have been less interested in this toy. I put catnip treats and catnip itself in the toy with the food, I opened the holes to the largest possible for the greatest reward - I would even kick the toy so that some food would spill out to hopefully entice them. They just shrugged (and ate the food that spilled out). Knowing cats are slow to accept change, I kept trying for many weeks with no success. Finally, I was about to give up and write a review to avoid this toy if you have older cats, when I decided to try putting just catnip treats in the toy (no food). At first nothing. But then, when I was in another room, I heard the toy roll across the floor and later I noticed the treats were gone. Today I was in the room and saw both cats (even the intellectually challenged but sweet one) tap the toy and get the treats. It finally worked! Now to transition from treats to food... maybe by next year? One can only hope.

Very Cute Toy

I love this because it is absolutely pet safe, and that's important to me. The only reasons I gave 4 rather than 5 stars is (1) my cats find it a bit heavy to bat around, thus, they lose interest rather quickly. and (2) I'm finding the despenser mechanism a bit tricky to set so that the size adjusts to the treats (I have various sizes) I put in. The larger treats ('Irresistables') is one, but the Digestive Enzyme treat needs to be broken in half, so the smaller size tends to dispence too much too fast. If you are the owner of a single cat that's not an issue. But if you have more than one cat you know you wish to monitor the number of certain treats the cat has. So, that's why the 4 rather than 5 star. I absolutely LOVE this toy otherwise.

Not Quite It

My cat generally does not bat any ball and this was no exception, even when introduced per the enclosed instructions. Will try again in the future. Does seems well constructed and easy to use.

Disappointed.

Used treats and nothing! I thought for sure he would want to roll it and hit it, but nothing. Shocked. Will donate to the shelter for a furbaby to enjoy. It's so cute.

Great for weight loss

Our kitty was overweight and our vet suggested getting him something to slow down his eating. This helped him realize he was full without eating as much. The weight came off and he’s still happy eating his meals from this.

works great if used correctly!

Hard to get holes to work with treats, either the holes are too open or too closed but once you get the holes right the cats play and get their rewards.

Two Thumbs Up from Cheddy!

Our elderly ginger loves this. It lets her get in touch with her inner kitten and slows down her treat gobbling. I love that you can adjust the side of the treat openings for different sized treats or to vary the workout.

does its job

it is a nice toy. easy simple design. i taped over 2 of 3 holes so that my cat wouldn't empty it so quickly. i may try out a different toy in the future. cat likes it though.
