Giant Breed Owners Beware
We ordered the extra large 12" - 28" neck head collar for our Great Dane. The loop for the snout has a metal clasp that stays in place very well. The neck loop, however, has a plastic slider that will not stay in place and loosens the whole fit of the head collar with little to no pressure. Needless to say our dog was able to get out of it almost on accident. Thankfully we tested it in a fenced back yard and not out in the open.
Effective until it's not...
This headcollar is a great tool and has been helpful in training my poodle mix rescue... until she figured out how to snap her head and release the collar, twice on two very busy roads. Very scary. The collar was on correctly, well snapped each time; and I experienced the same issue with 2 units. Now looking for another option. Recommend with reservations...
Helps pulling alot
Without this, my dog pulls so hard on the lease. So much he begins to cough. The first few times he hated it but now he accepts it as part of the walk. This also helps a lot with preventing my 5-month-old bernedoodle from trying to pick up every piece of trash from the street. I don't know if i will ever stop using this mainly because I walk in NYC where thee is so much trash on the street.
Great product
I purchased this gentle leader because my 12 y.o. Bichon has growths and her harness was bothering them. I thought it was an excellent idea using a gentle leader however the Bichon thinks otherwise. Bichon has met her match in stubbornness
Design change (metal not plastic clasp)
Love the Gentle Leader (in general) and the one pictured above would get a 5. The Gentle Leader itself is a great product (with the ORIGINAL design). I ordered in in grey (to fit in with my pups coloring and be less obvious), but the clasp under her neck was made of metal and not plastic. The metal tends to rub her which makes her not as comfortable, and comes undone in-between use (it HAS stayed clasped when on her and in use, which is why I am giving it a 3 instead of a 1). If I continue to use it (instead of going back to the black), I will put duck tape over the meta on the nose to keep it in place and to avoid metal against her skin. I would recommend the Gentle Leader in general because it is AWESOME for dogs who pull and has been a game changer when it comes to walking my puppy. The metal clasp drops it from a 5+ to a 3.
Effective for reactive Great Dane
This is our preferred walking head collar. The simplest and most effective. Recently tried the Canny Collar after a Vet friend sang its praises. It failed to impress at double the price . Back to the Gentle Leader.
VERY IMPRESSED
I have tried everything on my two dogs to keep them from pulling, so thought I would try this Headcollar. It takes the dog some time to get used to it, but there is no pulling and they walk great with it.
Easy walking
Roo was a strong puller but it is now easy to keep her at my side. She is a 45 pound, 21" shoulder height mixed breed, with a good bit of whippet. I am elderly with health issues so our match was not conducive to walking together. She took to wearing the lead within a minute and now anxiously sits to have it put on as soon as I pick it up.
Seems to work as intended
We just got an 18 month old Ridgeback mix rescue which has had zero training. He has spent his life either confined or on the street as a stray. We have only had him a couple of weeks. He absolutely hates it. He jumps around attempting to pull it off as soon as I put it on. However once the lead is on it seems to work well. He settles in and heels. So far I have only used it in the house and in the yard as I am working up to taking him on more extended walks.
Excellent Product
I have to admit, my Yorkies really didn't like this lead at all, but it has made all the difference in the world. They both constantly pulled while walking, everything I tried really didn't help the situation until this lead was introduced. Love it!
