To get the most accurate size harness for your pet, measure the girth of their chest, around the widest part of your dog's torso right behind the front legs, with a cloth tape measure. Pull the cloth tape snug, but not tight. If you don't have a cloth tape measure, you can use a piece of string and measure it with a rigid ruler afterwards. Make sure there's enough room for about two fingers between the harness and your pet's chest for comfort.
I got this harness for my Silky Terriers for the many car trips we take. It takes a bit of effort to adjust just right but once adjusted, it is easy to put on and take off. The harness is well fitting and doesn't allow them to slip a leg out or slide around. I use this with a car seat for added protection. I was in a car accident with one of my Silkies, Cooper, and the harness and car seat kept him safe and secure. He was still safe and sound in his harness and car seat after the impact.
Safe and easy to put on, but....

We bought this harness because it was crash-tested. Once we tried it on our squirmy puppy, we were pleased how easy it was to put on her: through the front legs and clips on top!. But the harness is bulky and slides to her side when she moves in the car. I think the top loops are too big. We haven't found a crash-tested harness that is this easy to put on our puppy. Tried the Kurgo Tru-fit Smart harness, but it is only easy to put on a dog that sit still.....not our situation at all---it was impossible in fact, so we'll stick with the PetSafe Harness for now.
Better than some

The harness is light weight but solid feeling which matters to me because the other harnesses I have are very heavy. For really long trips I want them to be comfortable and safe. It seems to me having this extra weight doesn’t seem comfortable. So far my 23 lb pugenise who must have read up on Houdini hasn’t gotten out of this harness yet. I like how it fits his broad chest but doesn’t cut off at the throat or under his front legs. I don’t think this can double as a harness to walk dog’s in because of the set up in back. It wouldn’t work.
Pet safe harness

We purchased this harness to go with the car seat of the same brand. I would recommend getting some other type. The connector strap that attaches the harness to the seat, connects down low, through a hole in the seat, with the car seat belt. It gets all twisted up and our dog got tangled in it repeatedly. We tried connecting it up above him to a loop by the headrest and that works better. We also purchased a new connector from the strap to the harness that has a swivel. That also helps, instead of using the heavy carabiner that came with it.
Not for my dog

This harness has not worked for my somewhat anxious dog. She gets the harness screwed around as she tries to move around no matter how tight I make it. We don't have a 'happy ride' still.

Easy to put on, but it slides all over the place. I've tried to tighten it as much as possible to no availe. I'll look for another option.
Halter for Seat Belt

I had a bit of trouble getting this sized and adjusted to my dog. Probably me and not halter. Very well made and it looks like it
Will work beautifully.
Hoped for better

This is basically a one size fits all. My dog weights around 30 lbs at the time of purchase. The harness works fine as a restraint in the car, but other than that it is not very functional. It can slip off if your dog attempts to pull against you. The straps are way long and you will likely have to cut them so your dog isn't trying to bite at them. It moves around and doesn't stay in place very well.
Did not work for us

This harness is too bulky with not enough flexibility. The two straps on the back are cumbersome.
Worth the price

I have a new, insecure rescue dog that hates being anywhere in a car. This product’s quality is “average”, but for the most part, it does the job. The instructions are not clear; however, I found YouTube videos to help me, and an 800 number is on the product box as well. I didn’t go for a higher quality harness for fear that I’d have spent more money and still have a dog that hates riding in a car. BTW: my dog still hates riding in the car. If you face a this same type problem, then I recommend this product.
