Can this ramp be used over stair?
Answer by ChewyNov 10, 2017
While this ramp can be used on stairs, there are limitations. The “pitch” of stairs is generally much steeper than ramps (think of wheelchair ramps outside of buildings), so placing the ramp over the top of stairs will make it too steep to use. If the staircase only consists of a few steps, then the ramp might work but the bottom of the ramp must be placed farther out than the bottom step. The average “height” of individual steps (known as the “rise”) is 7-8 inches. By referring to the “recommended height” figure for a given ramp, you can determine how many steps can be covered safely. For example, the Deluxe Telescoping Ramp extends to 72 inches and is recommended for heights up to 28 inches. This ramp would probably work well for covering 3-4 steps. However, it’s always best to measure the rise (height) and run (length) of the area involved to make sure the ramp will work in your particular situation

Can this be left outdoors, since it’s plastic?
Answer by ChewyJun 28, 2018
It is recommended to store inside away from weather elements.

My SUV rear door is 26" from the ground, will this ramp work?
Answer by ChewyOct 05, 2020
This ramp is suitable for use with heights up to 24 inches. We also carry the PetSafe Happy Ride Telescoping Pet Ramp, which is suitable heights up to 30 inches (Regular) or 36 inches (X-Large).

Will this ramp allow a best friend mobility "wheelchaired dog" to go up and down on it so it can safely maneuver a step to get to the porch and ground then back into the house? I would be there to safely guide the dog down and up. I don't want him flipping over and further injuring himself.
Answer by ChewyOct 28, 2017
This Ramp is 16 inches wide, so it would depend on the width of the wheelchair the dog has. If the wheel width is 12 inches or less, it should work well, under supervision.

it works but not easily

This item works. It is strong enough for a pretty big dog. It only took a few times before my dog was not afraid to use it. However, it is cumbersome. It is light enough, but the hinge where it unfolds is stiff and it takes two hands to push it open and level it out. Sometimes it is an issue, like when you are holding on to a leash. The little plastic tab that holds the two sides together when folded snapped in half the first day of use. It is not really needed because, as I said, the hinge is very stiff and doesn't unfold easily.

Worked Well for Me

I found this ramp to be just like the reviews said. I think it is very sturdy and lightweight. The surface is rough but I didn't find it too rough - good traction. Now I am using it for my tall dog who recently had a front limb amputated. It is so he can get to the back seat of my sedan so the slope is not that much. I don't know how it would be to get up into an SUV. It is a little narrow for my amputee dog but it works because the car door serves as a wall and I stand on the other edge, keeping him on track. A non-amputee probably would be fine. Overall, I find this a good product at a good price.

Works Well, must train first!

We like our ramp and the nonskid surface. We began training in house, laying it flat on the floor. We then transition to using the first step to our front porch, at all times using training treats ( small ones) to encourage Snickers to walk on the ramp. Again, once she was comfortable, we transition to the second porch step and then to the back of the car. The angle is steep if you would begin with our car first, so her training did the trick. Snickers weighs 60lbs, and no problems with the ramp sturdiness. She now uses it consistently!

back to the drawing board

My old boy refuses to use it. Will continue to try to train him to it for just 1 stair step, and maybe try the car again later.

Quality Product but not for every dog!

I like that this product is sturdy and well designed. My dog has been having trouble going up the back stairs, and I thought this would be a good alternative, however, she is deathly afraid of the ramp, and will not go anywhere near it! after multiple attempts to coax her, she was unable to use it.

Works in small passenger cars, too

The advertisements foolishly only show the ramp being used in the back of big SUVs. They err by failing to show that it also works fine in side doors of smaller cars. The ramp works well for the rear passenger door of my Toyota Camry LE. It probably would work on the front passenger door, as well, but I haven’t tested that because I have never allowed my dog to sit up front. My beloved dog is an elderly black lab, so I can safely say that it is plenty sturdy. I am so glad that I bought it!

Oh, Oh Problems

In training my lab to use the ramp, it collapsed off the trunk and she fell with it. After more attempts we saw that the ramp was slippery and now she found it very hrd to stay on it without firm holding by two people. I am now shopping for sticky carpet squares to line the ramp. We have to suceed because she is loosing power in her hind-end and cannot jump out of the car any more. Wish us luck.

Sturdy, but Check your angle

We measured before we bought this in large, but somehow we did not calculate how steep the angle would be up to the back of our SUV. Our dog found it far too steep. Fortunately, we can use it to get him to the back seat area instead as the door frame edge is lower. So measure AND consider the angle that results. It is sturdy and there is a rough sandy texture for grip. Also lightweight for its size.

WELL MADE, JUST AS DESCRIBED!

I ordered this ramp for my almost 10 year old Pit Bull who suffers from moderate to severe arthritis in both back legs. He has been having difficulty getting into the car for his doctor visits. Chewy ALWAYS has what we need with a GREAT selection and price ranges to choose from. This ramp is very sturdy yet not too heavy for me. It is solidly constructed and easy for my little guy to use and easy for me to lift and set up. Always very fast shipping from Chewy and as always thanks!!!
