I would like to know how this cart hooks up to the bike. I've never saw one close enough to get the jest of the hookup
Answer by ChewySep 06, 2017
Attach the bicycle towbar :After all parts have been removed, position the main cabin of the trailer with the bottom side facing up. Locate the towbar mounting bracket which is welded to the frame; remove the pre-installed nut and bolt and the clevis pin (which is connected to the bolt with a black cord), but leave the black plastic spacer in place in the bracket. Position the towbar so the end with two holes fits into the plastic spacer and the hole at the end of the towbar aligns with the middle hole in the plastic spacer and the metal bracket. Re-install the bolt and nut through these holes taking care to keep the black cord from the clevis pin connected to the bolt. Lock the towbar into the “stowed” position by inserting the clevis pin through the mounting bracket, plastic spacer, and towbar and engage the hoop spring on the end of the clevis pin.

what is the suggested maximum weight for the small and large dog trailers?
Answer by ChewyFeb 03, 2020
This is available in Medium and Large. The Medium trailer is designed to be suitable for pets that weigh up to 50 pounds. The Large trailer is suitable for pets that weigh up to 110 pounds.

Can a 15 lb dog and a 25lb dog fit in this together??
Answer by ChewyMay 25, 2020
It is possible to fit 2 small dogs within the Medium or Large trailer, depending on their size. The Medium has cabin dimensions measuring 26 x 17 x 20 inches (length x width x height) and the Large has cabin dimensions measuring 33 x 22 x 26 inches.

Does it have any suspension? I read that the newer version (Solvit HoundAbout II) doesn't and that it has a bit of a bumpy ride.
Answer by ChewyOct 14, 2017
The HoundAbout bicycle trailer does not offer a suspension or shock system. However, this isn't a feature to the new HoundAbout II, it is also present in the original version. While the feature is not present at the moment the manufacturer is always looking for ways to innovate and improve their products.

Perfect for my girl

My 100 lb German Shepherd has bad back legs from previous owner breaking them. I wanted her to be able to go with me, she fits perfectly, the cart pulls easily behind my e-bike and so very simple to put together for a 67 year old woman. I would suggest this cart to everyone that needs to have their special fur baby with them.

Awesome Bike Trailer

Easy to assemble and fold up. Super sturdy. We carry two 15 pound dogs and they LOVE it. Highly recommend.

Great so far.

Just put everything together a couple of weeks ago and have been using daily ever since. All still good - highly recommend lubricating the rear wheel axles prior to assembly, which have nothing slimy pre-applied or included. This cart definitely will be noticeable when peddling into the wind, uphill, or on longer rides - aerodynamically, it is a brick.

Bought two in less than two years

We have been through two of these in less than two years. We do use it as a stroller with the front wheel. The front wheel broke off entirely in less than a year for the first one. We really need this for our paralyzed dog so we bought a second and within six months the front wheel came off and then after fixing that the entire front bracket broke.

Skittish Aussie loves it!

After a few days letting the carrier sit in the living room and giving our dog treats whenever she got in, we took her for her first ride. Afterward, she was so excited she was begging us to go again. The ride was smooth and seems very safe. The hitch was easy to attach to our Rad Power ebike. This trailer design with the open roof and mesh around filled her senses and she wasn't scared. We chose the large even though she's 45 pounds, and the size is great, she can fully lay down and has the room to turn and sit up. Honestly, the decision for a trailer was hard as there are many options and our first one had a closed roof which she didn't like at all. This worked! Now, happy trails ahead with our fur-friend.

My dog trailer

My mom and dad bought me this trailer so I could go on bike rides with them. At first I was nervous and kept trying to get out, but mom rode next to me and kept me calm, now I LOVE it! They didn't even have to argue when they put it together, so it must have been easy!

Fran did not like her new toy, but the product is great!

I am an avid e-bike cyclist and love and adore my six-year-old 75lbs American Pitbull/Terrier. I adopted her in November of 2020 from the APL and could not wait to take her on a bicycle journey with me once the weather warmed up from the winter season in NE Ohio as she would whine every time, I left her to take a ride. So, to eliminate the situation on April 5th I purchased a PetSafe Happy Ride Steel Cat & Dog Bicycle Trailer from so she could enjoy a bike ride and the great outdoors with me. I received the trailer on April 8th and opened the boxes as she attentively and curiously watched as I assembled the trailer in less than a ½ hour. I decided to called a friend to join us on our first ride together. She first took to the trailer well. However, about ¼ of a mile into the ride became agitated and was attempting to jump out through the porthole though she was tethered inside. Upon me turning around to head back home she began to bite the interior and growl with dissatisfaction. To my dismay the trailer then flipped over on top of her. My friend assisted me with untangling her from the trailer and walking the bikes and trailer back home as I handled and soothed her to calm her down. Mean-less to say all was well and no one got hurt during the incident! The unfortunate thing is that Fran did not like her new toy and the zipper was broke within 5 minutes of our first ride together, so I called Chewy to explain the situation. They informed they would email me a FedEx return shipping label and to pack the trailer in the original shipping boxes for return and a full refund of the purchase price would be honored once the package was received by the Chewy Shipping Department Returns in PA. The package was confirmed received on April 13th and I am now awaiting the refund at this time. The Customer Service Rep was phenomenal in helping with the situation and explaining the return policy and process. The PetSafe Steel Trailer is a great product that is quality made with easy to comprehend instructions and very easy to assemble. I would recommend this product to any dog lover and wish them all the blessings that their dog or cat will love it as much I did. All in all, it’s just not for Fran. So, with this experience it’s back to the drawing board to find another way for her and I to bond and enjoy spending quality time together opposed to bike riding!

don’t think, just buy!

This cart is absolutely fantastic for my 75lb, 10 year old Weimaraner. If you have a big dog you really need to be a strong cyclist and/or pedal assist bike in order to really get around in an efficient manner. Excellent for working out and getting around! The back of the cart has two small exposed sections of the vertical bars (same width as a seat) you can put tail lights on instead of running a flag. The mounting bracket worked with my specialized mountain bike that is a quick release rear tire. Cannot wait to shred this all summer long.
